NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 In his anger, with what darkness has the Lord enveloped the daughter of Zion! He has flung the beautyof Israel from heaven to the ground, without regard for his footstool on the day of his anger.	1 Come mai ha oscurato nella sua ira il Signore la figlia di Sion? Ha scaraventato dal cielo alla terra la maestà d'Israele! Non si è ricordato dello sgabello dei suoi piedi nel giorno del suo furore.
2 The Lord pitilessly engulfed all the homes of Jacob; in his fury he tore down the fortresses of thedaughter of Judah; he threw to the ground, he desecrated the kingdom and its princes.	2 Il Signore ha inghiottito senza pietà tutti i pascoli di Giacobbe; ha demolito nel suo furore le fortezze della figlia di Giuda, ha gettato a terra, profanato il regno e i suoi prìncipi.
3 In his burning anger he broke al the might of Israel, withdrew his protecting right hand at the coming ofthe enemy, and blazed against Jacob like a fire that burns up everything near it.	3 Ha infranto nell'ardore dell'ira tutta la potenza d'Israele, ha ritirato la sua destra dinanzi all'avversario, ha acceso contro Giacobbe come un fuoco, una fiamma che divora intorno.
4 Like an enemy he bent his bow, and his right hand held firm; like a foe he slaughtered all those whowere a delight to see; on the tent of the daughter of Zion he poured out his fury like fire.	4 Ha teso il suo arco come un nemico, irrobustito la sua destra come un avversario. Ha ucciso ogni cosa che affascina gli occhi. Nella tenda della figlia di Sion ha divampato come fuoco il suo furore.
5 The Lord behaved like an enemy; he engulfed Israel, he engulfed all its citadels, he destroyed itsfortresses and for the daughter of Judah multiplied weeping on wailing.	5 Il Signore s'è fatto come nemico, ha inghiottito Israele! Ha inghiottito tutti i suoi palazzi, distrutto le sue fortezze, ha moltiplicato alla figlia di Giuda la lamentazione e il lamento.
6 He wrecked his domain like a garden, destroyed his assembly-points, Yahweh erased the memory offestivals and Sabbaths in Zion; in the heat of his anger he treated king and priest with contempt.	6 Ha violato la sua dimora simile a un giardino, rovinato il luogo delle sue assemblee; il Signore ha fatto dimenticare in Sion festa e sabato, e ha riprovato nel furore della sua ira re e sacerdote.
7 The Lord has rejected his altar, he has come to loathe his sanctuary and has given her palace wallsinto the clutches of the enemy; from the uproar they made in Yahweh's temple it might have been a festival day!	7 Il Signore ha avuto in disgusto il suo altare e aborrito il suo santuario; ha consegnato in mano al nemico le mura dei suoi palazzi: grida alzarono nella casa del Signore come in giorno di festa.
8 Yahweh has resolved to destroy the wal s of the daughter of Zion, stretching out the line, not stayinghis hand until he has engulfed everything, thus bringing mourning on wall and rampart; alike they crumbled.	8 Il Signore ha deciso di distruggere il muro della figlia di Sion; ha teso la fune: non ha ritirato la sua mano dal distruggere; ha reso tristi baluardo e muro: si struggono insieme di pena!
9 Her gates have sunk into the ground; he has broken and shattered their bars. Her king and her princesare among the gentiles, there is no instruction, furthermore her prophets cannot find any vision from Yahweh.	9 Le sue porte sono infossate nella terra: ha demolito e infranto le sue sbarre; il suo re e i suoi prìncipi sono fra i pagani, non vi è più legge! Neppure i suoi profeti ricevono visione dal Signore.
10 Mute, they sit on the ground, the elders of the daughter of Zion; they have put dust on their heads andwrapped themselves in sackcloth. The young girls of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground.	10 Siedono per terra, muti, gli anziani della figlia di Sion; hanno gettato polvere sulla loro testa, si sono cinti di sacchi; hanno piegato a terra il loro capo le vergini di Gerusalemme.
11 My eyes are worn out with weeping, my inmost being is in ferment, my heart plummets at thedestruction of my young people, as the children and babies grow faint in the streets of the city.	11 Si consumano di lacrime i miei occhi, fremono le mie viscere; si scioglie per terra il mio fegato per la ferita della figlia del mio popolo, allo svenire di bimbi e lattanti lungo le piazze della città.
12 They keep saying to their mothers, 'Where is some food?' as they faint like wounded men in thestreets of the city, as they breathe their last on their mothers' breasts.	12 Alle loro mamme dicevano: "Dov'è il grano e il vino?", mentre svenivano come feriti nelle piazze della città ed esalavano le loro anime al seno delle loro mamme.
13 To what can I compare or liken you, daughter of Jerusalem? Who can rescue and comfort you, youngdaughter of Zion? For huge as the sea is your ruin: who can heal you?	13 A che cosa ti rassomiglierò? A che uguagliarti, o figlia di Gerusalemme? A chi ti paragonerò, per consolarti, o vergine figlia di Sion? Perché è vasta come il mare la tua ferita: chi potrà guarirti?
14 The visions your prophets had for you were deceptive whitewash; they did not lay bare your guilt soas to change your fortunes: the visions they told you were deceptive.	14 I tuoi profeti hanno avuto visioni per te d'illusione e di vanità, e non hanno svelato il tuo peccato, per allontanare da te l'esilio; ma hanno visto per te oracoli d'illusione e di seduzione.
15 Al who pass your way clap their hands at the sight; they whistle and shake their heads over thedaughter of Jerusalem, 'Is this the city they cal Perfection of Beauty, the joy of the whole world?'	15 Battono le mani contro di te tutti quelli che passano per strada; fischiano e scuotono la testa contro la figlia di Gerusalemme: "E' questa la città della quale si dice: "La tutta bella, la delizia di tutta la terra"!".
16 Your enemies open their mouths in chorus against you; they whistle and grind their teeth; they say,'We have swallowed her up. This is the day we were waiting for; at last we have seen it!'	16 Spalancano contro di te la loro bocca tutti i tuoi nemici; fischiano e digrignano i denti; dicono: "L'abbiamo inghiottita! E' certo questo il giorno che attendevamo, l'abbiamo trovato, lo vediamo!".
17 Yahweh has done what he planned, has carried out his threat, as he ordained long ago: he hasdestroyed without pity, increasing the might of your foes -- and letting your foes get the credit.	17 Ha fatto il Signore ciò che aveva deciso: ha adempiuto la sua parola che aveva decretato dai giorni antichi: ha demolito e non ha avuto pietà. Ha rallegrato contro di te il nemico e innalzata la potenza dei tuoi avversari.
18 Cry then to the Lord, rampart of the daughter of Zion; let your tears flow like a torrent, day and night;al ow yourself no respite, give your eyes no rest!	18 Grida col tuo cuore al Signore, o vergine figlia di Sion; fa' scorrere come torrente le lacrime giorno e notte! Non dare riposo a te stessa, non taccia la pupilla del tuo occhio!
19 Up, cry out in the night-time as each watch begins! Pour your heart out like water in Yahweh'spresence! Raise your hands to him for the lives of your children (who faint with hunger at the end of everystreet)!	19 Sorgi, grida nella notte, al principio delle veglie notturne; effondi come acqua il tuo cuore davanti al volto del Signore; alza a lui le tue mani, per la vita dei tuoi fanciulletti che svengono per fame all'imbocco di tutte le strade!
20 Look, Yahweh, and consider: whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their littleones, the children they have nursed? Should priest and prophet be slaughtered in the Lord's sanctuary?	20 Guarda, Signore, e fissa lo sguardo: chi hai trattato in questo modo? Dovevano le donne mangiare i loro frutti, i bimbi, che si cullano sulle braccia? Dovevano essere uccisi nel santuario del Signore il sacerdote e il profeta?
21 Children and old people are lying on the ground in the streets; my young men and young girls havefal en by the sword; you have kil ed them, on the day of your anger, you have slaughtered them pitilessly.	21 Giacquero per terra, nelle strade, il fanciullo e l'anziano, le mie vergini e i miei giovani sono caduti di spada. Hai ucciso in giorno di tua collera, hai trucidato senza pietà!
22 As though to a festival you cal ed together terrors from al sides, so that, on the day of Yahweh'sanger, none escaped and none survived. Those whom I had nursed and reared, my enemy has annihilated themal .	22 Hai convocato come in giorno di festa quelli che attorno mi fanno paura; non vi è stato nel giorno dell'ira del Signore scampato o superstite; quelli che ho tenuto in braccio e allevati il mio nemico li ha sterminati!
