Jeremiah 52

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eleven years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Hamital daughter of Jeremiah, of Libnah.	1 בן עשרים ואחת שנה צדקיהו במלכו ואחת עשרה שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו חמיטל בת ירמיהו מלבנה
2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, just as Jehoiakim had done.	2 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה ככל אשר עשה יהויקים
3 That this should happen to Jerusalem and Judah was due to Yahweh's anger, resulting in his castingthem away from his presence. Zedekiah rebel ed against the king of Babylon.	3 כי על אף יהוה היתה בירושלם ויהודה עד השליכו אותם מעל פניו וימרד צדקיהו במלך בבל
4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar kingof Babylon advanced on Jerusalem with his entire army; he pitched camp in front of the city and threw upearthworks round it.	4 ויהי בשנה התשעית למלכו בחדש העשירי בעשור לחדש בא נבוכדראצר מלך בבל הוא וכל חילו על ירושלם ויחנו עליה ויבנו עליה דיק סביב
5 The city lay under siege till the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.	5 ותבא העיר במצור עד עשתי עשרה שנה למלך צדקיהו
6 In the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, when famine was raging in the city and there was nofood for the populace,	6 בחדש הרביעי בתשעה לחדש ויחזק הרעב בעיר ולא היה לחם לעם הארץ
7 a breach was made in the city wal . The king and al the fighting men then fled, leaving the city undercover of dark, by way of the gate between the two wal s, which is near the king's garden -- the Chaldaeans hadsurrounded the city -- and made his way towards the Arabah.	7 ותבקע העיר וכל אנשי המלחמה יברחו ויצאו מהעיר לילה דרך שער בין החמתים אשר על גן המלך וכשדים על העיר סביב וילכו דרך הערבה
8 The Chaldaean troops pursued the king and caught up with Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, where allhis troops deserted.	8 וירדפו חיל כשדים אחרי המלך וישיגו את צדקיהו בערבת ירחו וכל חילו נפצו מעליו
9 But the Chaldaeans captured the king and took him to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the territory ofHamath, where he passed sentence on him.	9 ויתפשו את המלך ויעלו אתו אל מלך בבל רבלתה בארץ חמת וידבר אתו משפטים
10 He had Zedekiah's sons slaughtered before his eyes; he also had all the chief men of Judah put todeath at Riblah.	10 וישחט מלך בבל את בני צדקיהו לעיניו וגם את כל שרי יהודה שחט ברבלתה
11 He then put out Zedekiah's eyes and, loading him with chains, the king of Babylon carried him off toBabylon where he kept him prisoner until his dying day.	11 ואת עיני צדקיהו עור ויאסרהו בנחשתים ויבאהו מלך בבל בבלה ויתנהו בבית הפקדת עד יום מותו
12 In the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month -- it was in the nineteenth year of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon -- Nebuzaradan commander of the guard, a member of the king of Babylon's staff, enteredJerusalem.	12 ובחדש החמישי בעשור לחדש היא שנת תשע עשרה שנה למלך נבוכדראצר מלך בבל בא נבוזראדן רב טבחים עמד לפני מלך בבל בירושלם
13 He burnt down the Temple of Yahweh, the royal palace and al the houses in Jerusalem.	13 וישרף את בית יהוה ואת בית המלך ואת כל בתי ירושלם ואת כל בית הגדול שרף באש
14 The Chaldaean troops who accompanied the commander of the guard demolished al the wal ssurrounding Jerusalem.	14 ואת כל חמות ירושלם סביב נתצו כל חיל כשדים אשר את רב טבחים
15 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported (some of the poor people and) the remainder of thepopulation left in the city, the deserters who had gone over to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the artisans.	15 ומדלות העם ואת יתר העם הנשארים בעיר ואת הנפלים אשר נפלו אל מלך בבל ואת יתר האמון הגלה נבוזראדן רב טבחים
16 But Nebuzaradan commander of the guard left some of the poor country-people behind as vineyardworkers and ploughmen.	16 ומדלות הארץ השאיר נבוזראדן רב טבחים לכרמים וליגבים
17 The Chaldaeans broke up the bronze pil ars from the Temple of Yahweh, the wheeled stands and thebronze Sea, which were in the Temple of Yahweh, and took al the bronze away to Babylon.	17 ואת עמודי הנחשת אשר לבית יהוה ואת המכנות ואת ים הנחשת אשר בבית יהוה שברו כשדים וישאו את כל נחשתם בבלה
18 They also took the ash containers, the scoops, the knives, the sprinkling bowls, the incense bowls,and all the bronze furnishings used in worship.	18 ואת הסרות ואת היעים ואת המזמרות ואת המזרקת ואת הכפות ואת כל כלי הנחשת אשר ישרתו בהם לקחו
19 The commander of the guard also took the bowls, the censers, the sprinkling bowls, the ashcontainers, the lamp-stands, the goblets and the saucers: everything that was made of gold and everythingmade of silver.	19 ואת הספים ואת המחתות ואת המזרקות ואת הסירות ואת המנרות ואת הכפות ואת המנקיות אשר זהב זהב ואשר כסף כסף לקח רב טבחים
20 As regards the two pil ars, the one Sea, the twelve bronze oxen supporting the Sea, and the wheeledstands, which King Solomon had made for the Temple of Yahweh, there was no reckoning the weight of bronzein all these objects.	20 העמודים שנים הים אחד והבקר שנים עשר נחשת אשר תחת המכנות אשר עשה המלך שלמה לבית יהוה לא היה משקל לנחשתם כל הכלים האלה
21 As regards the pil ars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, its circumference was twelvecubits, it was four fingers thick, and hol ow inside;	21 והעמודים שמנה עשרה אמה קומה העמד האחד וחוט שתים עשרה אמה יסבנו ועביו ארבע אצבעות נבוב
22 on it stood a capital of bronze, the height of the capital being five cubits; round the capital were filigreeand pomegranates, al in bronze. So also for the second pil ar.	22 וכתרת עליו נחשת וקומת הכתרת האחת חמש אמות ושבכה ורמונים על הכותרת סביב הכל נחשת וכאלה לעמוד השני ורמונים
23 There were ninety-six pomegranates round the sides, making a hundred pomegranates round thefiligree in al .	23 ויהיו הרמנים תשעים וששה רוחה כל הרמונים מאה על השבכה סביב
24 The commander of the guard took prisoner Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the priest next in rank,and the three guardians of the threshold.	24 ויקח רב טבחים את שריה כהן הראש ואת צפניה כהן המשנה ואת שלשת שמרי הסף
25 In the city he took prisoner an official who was in command of the fighting men, seven of the king'spersonal friends who were discovered in the city, the secretary to the army commander responsible for militaryconscription, and sixty men of distinction discovered in the city.	25 ומן העיר לקח סריס אחד אשר היה פקיד על אנשי המלחמה ושבעה אנשים מראי פני המלך אשר נמצאו בעיר ואת ספר שר הצבא המצבא את עם הארץ וששים איש מעם הארץ הנמצאים בתוך העיר
26 Nebuzaradan commander of the guard took these men and brought them to the king of Babylon atRiblah,	26 ויקח אותם נבוזראדן רב טבחים וילך אותם אל מלך בבל רבלתה
27 and at Riblah, in the territory of Hamath, the king of Babylon had them put to death. Thus Judah wasdeported from its country.	27 ויכה אותם מלך בבל וימתם ברבלה בארץ חמת ויגל יהודה מעל אדמתו
28 The number of people deported by Nebuchadnezzar was as fol ows. In the seventh year: threethousand and twenty-three Judaeans;	28 זה העם אשר הגלה נבוכדראצר בשנת שבע יהודים שלשת אלפים ועשרים ושלשה
29 in the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar, eight hundred and thirty-two persons were deported fromJerusalem;	29 בשנת שמונה עשרה לנבוכדראצר מירושלם נפש שמנה מאות שלשים ושנים
30 in the twenty-third year of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuzaradan commander of the guard deported sevenhundred and forty-five Judaeans. In al : four thousand six hundred persons.	30 בשנת שלש ועשרים לנבוכדראצר הגלה נבוזראדן רב טבחים יהודים נפש שבע מאות ארבעים וחמשה כל נפש ארבעת אלפים ושש מאות
31 But in the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on thetwenty-fifth day of the month, Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year he came to the throne, pardonedJehoiachin king of Judah and released him from prison.	31 ויהי בשלשים ושבע שנה לגלות יהויכן מלך יהודה בשנים עשר חדש בעשרים וחמשה לחדש נשא אויל מרדך מלך בבל בשנת מלכתו את ראש יהויכין מלך יהודה ויצא אותו מבית הכליא
32 He treated him kindly and allotted him a seat above those of the other kings who were with him inBabylon.	32 וידבר אתו טבות ויתן את כסאו ממעל לכסא מלכים אשר אתו בבבל
33 So Jehoiachin laid aside his prisoner's garb and for the rest of his life always ate at the king's table.	33 ושנה את בגדי כלאו ואכל לחם לפניו תמיד כל ימי חיו
34 And his upkeep was permanently ensured by the king, day after day, for the rest of his life until theday he died.	34 וארחתו ארחת תמיד נתנה לו מאת מלך בבל דבר יום ביומו עד יום מותו כל ימי חייו
