Jeremiah 51

1 Yahweh says this: Against Babylon and the inhabitants of Leb-Kamai I shal rouse a destructive wind.	1 - Così dice il Signore: «Ecco che io desterò, su Babilonia e sui suoi abitanti che hanno alzato il cuore contro di me, un vento micidiale.
2 I shal send winnowers to Babylon to winnow her and leave her country bare, for she wil bebeleaguered on all sides, on the day of disaster.	2 E manderò in Babilonia ventolatori che la ventoleranno, e metteranno in iscompiglio tutta la sua terra, perchè da ogni parte son venuti pel dì della sua sventura.
3 Let no archer bend his bow! Let no man swagger in his breastplate!-No quarter for her young men!Curse her whole army with destruction!	3 Tendere non varrà a chi tende arco, nè salire a chi veste la corazza; nessuna remissione per la sua gioventù, sgozzate tutti i suoi soldati!
4 In the country of the Chaldaeans the slaughtered wil fall, in the streets of Babylon, those run throughby the sword.	4 E cadranno trafitti nella terra dei Caldei e crivellati di ferite per le sue contrade.
5 For Israel and Judah have not been bereft of their God, Yahweh Sabaoth, although their country wasful of sin against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Perchè Israele e Giuda non furono vedovate del loro Dio, il Signore degli eserciti, benchè la terra di quelli abbia colma la misura dei suoi misfatti contro il Santo d'Israele.
6 Escape from Babylon (save your lives, each one of you); do not perish for her guilt, for now is the timefor Yahweh's vengeance: he wil pay her her reward!	6 Fuggite di mezzo a Babilonia, ciascuno metta in salvo la sua vita: non siate acquiescenti sulla iniquità di lei; perchè è questo il tempo della vendetta che viene dal Signore, egli le renderà il contraccambio!
7 Babylon was a golden cup in Yahweh's hand, she made the whole world drunk, the nations drank herwine and then went mad.	7 Babilonia, aurea coppa in mano del Signore, inebriatrice di tutta la terra; del suo vino hanno bevuto le genti e hanno vacillato.
8 Babylon has suddenly fal en, is broken: wail for her! Fetch balm for her wounds, perhaps she can becured!	8 All'improvviso è caduta Babilonia ed è andata in isfacelo; ululate sovr'essa, cercate balsamo pel suo dolore se mai potesse guarire.
9 -'We tried to cure Babylon; she has got no better. Leave her alone and let us each go to his owncountry.' -Yes, her sentence reaches to the sky, rises to the very clouds.	9 Abbiamo curato Babilonia e non è guarita, abbandoniamola e andiamo ognuno al proprio paese, perchè il suo giudizio ha raggiunto il cielo, fino alle nubi si è alzato.
10 Yahweh has shown the uprightness of our cause. Come, let us tell in Zion what Yahweh our God hasdone.	10 Il Signore ha fatto palese la nostra giustizia: venite e raccontiamo in Sion l'opera del Signore Dio nostro.
11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! Yahweh has roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, becausehe has a plan against Babylon to destroy it; this is Yahweh's revenge, revenge for his Temple.	11 Aguzzate le frecce e riempite le faretre, il Signore ha suscitato lo spirito dei re dei Medi e ha vòlto il pensiero contro Babilonia per distruggerla; perchè è la vendetta di Dio, la vendetta del suo tempio!
12 Against the wal s of Babylon raise the standard! Strengthen the guard! Post the sentries! Take upconcealed positions! For Yahweh has both planned and done what he promised he would to the inhabitants ofBabylon.	12 Sulle mura di Babilonia alzate l'insegna, rinforzate la guarnigione, appostate le scolte, preparate gli agguati; perchè il Signore ha deciso e fatto tutto quello che ha detto contro gli abitanti di Babilonia.
13 Enthroned beside abundant waters, rich in treasures, you now meet your end, the finish of yourpil aging.	13 O tu che siedi presso le acque copiose, ricca di tesori, il tuo termine hai raggiunto, la misura per essere recisa.
14 By his own self Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn: I shal fil you with men as though with grasshoppers,and over you they wil raise the triumph-shout.	14 L'ha giurato il Signore degli eserciti per l'anima sua: - Io ti riempirò d'un brulicame di gente, e sopra di te si canterà la lieta canzone!-
15 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, by his discernment spread out theheavens.	15 Egli è che colla sua onnipotenza ha fatto la terra, e ha disposto l'universo colla sua sapienza, e colla sua prudenza ha disteso i cieli.
16 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the furthest limits ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.	16 Al risuonar della sua voce scrosciano in copia le acque nel cielo; egli fa salire le nubi dall'estremità della terra, forma i baleni forieri di pioggia e trae fuori dai suoi chiostri i vènti.
17 At this everyone stands stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.	17 Ogni uomo dalla sua stessa scienza stolto è dichiarato; ogni artefice nella sua statua ha la propria confusione, perchè ciò che hanno fuso è una menzogna, spirito in esse non v'è.
18 They are futile, a laughable production, when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.	18 Sono vane contraffazioni e cose ridicole; quando verrà l'ora della loro visita, periranno.
19 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage; His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	19 Non è simile a questi il retaggio di Giacobbe, perchè egli è quello che ha formato tutte le cose e Israele è lo scettro della sua eredità, il suo nome è il Signore degli eserciti.
20 You were my mace, a weapon of war. With you I crushed nations, struck kingdoms down,	20 Tu mi stritoli i bellici strumenti, io per te stritolerò le genti e distruggerò i regni;
21 with you crushed horse and rider, with you crushed chariot and charioteer,	21 e stritolerò per te il cavallo e il cavaliere; stritolerò il carro e il suo auriga;
22 with you crushed man and woman, with you crushed old man and young, with you crushed youngman and girl,	22 stritolerò per te, l'uomo e la donna; stritolerò per te il vecchio e il giovane; stritolerò per te i fanciulli e le fanciulle;
23 with you crushed shepherd and flock, with you crushed ploughman and team, with you crushedgovernors and magistrates,	23 per te stritolerò il pastore a la sua greggia, e stritolerò il bifolco coi suoi buoi; e stritolerò per te duci e magistrati.
24 and I shal repay Babylon and the inhabitants of Chaldaea, before your eyes, for al the wrongs theyhave done to Zion, Yahweh declares.	24 Ma ripagherò a Babilonia e a tutti gli abitanti della Caldea tutto il male che hanno fatto in Sion, sotto i vostri occhi, dice il Signore.
25 I am setting myself against you, mountain of destruction, Yahweh declares, destroyer of the wholeworld! I shall reach out my hand for you and send you tumbling from the crags and make you a burnt-outmountain.	25 Eccomi a te, monte pestilenziale, dice il Signore, che corrompi tutta la terra, e stenderò la mia mano sopra di te, ti rotolerò giù dalle rocce e ti ridurrò in un monte di faville.
26 No corner-stone wil be taken from you again and no foundation-stone, for you will be a desert forever, Yahweh declares.	26 Non caveranno da te nè una pietra per angolo, nè una pietra per fondamento, ma resterai disfatto per sempre, dice il Signore.
27 Raise the standard throughout the world, sound the trumpet among the nations! Consecrate nationsto make war on her; summon kingdoms against her: Ararat, Minni, Ashkenaz; appoint a recruiting-officer for herenemies, bring up the cavalry, bristling like locusts.	27 Alzate l'insegna alla terra, suonate la tromba alle genti, consacrate contro di lei i popoli alla guerra, chiamate a raccolta contro di essa i re di Ararat, di Menni, di Ascenez; contr'essa passate in rassegna i Tafsar, s'addensino i destrieri come irsute cavallette.
28 Consecrate nations to make war on her: the kings of Media, her governors, all her magistrates andthe whole territory under their rule.	28 Consacrate contro di essa alla guerra le nazioni, i re di Media, i suoi condottieri, tutti i suoi magistrati e la terra intera dei suoi domini.
29 Then the earth trembled and writhed, for Yahweh's plan against Babylon was being executed: tochange the country of Babylon into an unpopulated desert.	29 E la terra si scoterà e si agiterà, perchè si compirà contro Babilonia il decreto del Signore, di ridurre Babilonia una terra deserta e disabitata.
30 The warriors of Babylon have done with fighting, they have stayed inside their fortresses; theircourage exhausted, they are now like women. Her houses are on fire, her gates are shattered.	30 I guerrieri di Babilonia hanno cessato la battaglia, si sono rifugiati nelle fortezze, le loro forze sono esaurite e sono diventati come femminette; le loro abitazioni sono state incendiate, infrante le loro saracinesche.
31 Courier fol ows close on courier, messenger on messenger, to tel the king of Babylon that his city hasbeen taken from al sides,	31 Un corriere va incontro a un corriere, un messaggero incontro a un messaggero, per recare al re di Babilonia il messaggio che la sua città da un capo all'altro è stata presa.
32 the fords occupied, the bastions burnt down and the fighting men seized with panic.	32 I guadi sono occupati, le arginature in fiamme, e gli uomini di guerra scompigliati».
33 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floorwhen it is being trodden: a little while, and then the time for harvesting her wil come.	33 Perchè così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: «La figlia di Babilonia è come un'aia al tempo della sua trebbiatura, ancora un po' e il tempo della mietitura verrà per lei».
34 He devoured me, consumed me, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, left me like an empty dish, like theDragon he has swal owed me whole, filled his belly with my titbits and threw me out.	34 «Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, m'ha consumata, m'ha divorata, mi ha ridotta come un vaso vuoto, mi ha ingoiata come un drago, si è riempito il ventre, delle mie più tenere vivande e mi ha discacciata.
35 'On Babylon be the wounds I suffered!' the daughter of Zion wil say. 'On the inhabitants of Chaldaeabe my blood!' Jerusalem wil say.	35 L'offesa fatta a me, alla carne mia, gravi sopra Babilonia, dice l'abitacolo di Sion; e il sangue mio, sopra gli abitanti della Caldea, dice Gerusalemme».
36 So, Yahweh says this: Look, I am taking up your cause to make sure you are avenged. I shal dry herriver up, make her springs run dry.	36 Perciò, così dice il Signore: «Ecco che io giudicherò la tua causa e farò le tue vendette; e renderò il mare di colei deserto e seccherò la sua vena!
37 Babylon wil become a heap of stones, the lair of jackals, a thing of horror and of scorn, with no oneliving in it.	37 E Babilonia diventerà mucchi di rovine, ricetto di serpentacci, argomento di stupore e di fischiate, perchè non sarà più nessuno che vi resti ad abitare.
38 Like lions they roar together, they growl like lions' whelps.	38 Ruggiranno tutti insieme come leoni, scoteranno le criniere come leoncelli.
39 Are they feverish? I wil prepare them a drink and make them drink until they are tipsy and fal into aneverlasting sleep, never to wake again, Yahweh declares.	39 Nel loro bollore propinerò ad essi la mia bevanda e l'inebrierò, affinchè si assopiscano e dormano un sonno sempiterno, nè mai più si ridestino, dice il Signore.
40 I wil drag them away to the slaughterhouse like lambs, like rams and goats.	40 E li trascinerò come agnelli al macello, come si fa coi montoni e coi capretti.
41 What! Has Sheshak been taken, been conquered, the pride of the whole world? What a thing of horrorBabylon has become throughout the nations!	41 Ah! com'è stata presa Sesac e conquistata la più celebrata di tutta la terra! Babilonia com'è ridotta, da metter lo stupore fra le nazioni!
42 The sea has risen over Babylon, she sinks beneath its boisterous waves.	42 Un mare è salito sopra Babilonia, nella piena de' suoi flutti è stata sommersa.
43 Her towns have been turned into wasteland, a parched land, a desert, a country where no one livesand where nobody goes.	43 Le sue città fanno stupore, contrade inospiti e deserte, terre spopolate, dove non transita più creatura umana.
44 I shal punish Bel in Babylon and make him disgorge what he has swal owed. In future the nations wilstream to him no more. The very walls of Babylon wil fal .	44 E visiterò Bel in Babilonia, e gli farò emettere dalle fauci ciò che aveva trangugiato; e le genti non affluiranno più verso di lui, perchè anche il muro di Babilonia rovinerà.
45 Get out of her, my people; save your lives, each one of you, from Yahweh's furious anger.	45 O voi del popolo mio, uscite d'in mezzo ad essa e ciascuno salvi se stesso dall'ira indignata del Signore!
46 But do not be faint-hearted! Do not take fright at rumours hawked round the country: one rumourspreads one year, next year another fol ows; violence rules on earth and one tyrant succeeds another.	46 Che non s'infiacchisca il vostro cuore, non v'intimoriscano rumori di voci che si udiranno per la terra; e verrà un anno, e correran voci, e dopo quell'anno altre voci e iniquità sopra la terra, un dominatore dietro un dominatore.
47 So look, the days are coming when I shal punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire country wil behumbled, with all her slaughtered lying on home-soil.	47 Perchè, ecco che verranno giorni, ed io visiterò i simulacri di Babilonia, tutta la sua terra sentirà la confusione, e tutti i suoi cascheranno uccisi in mezzo ad essa.
48 The heaven and earth and all within them wil shout for joy over Babylon, for the destroyers from thenorth are coming to her, Yahweh declares.	48 E sopra Babilonia saranno in festa e cielo e terra e tutto ciò che vi si contiene; perchè dal settentrione verranno a lei i depredatori, dice il Signore.
49 Babylon in her turn must fal , you slaughtered ones of Israel, just as through Babylon there fel menslaughtered al over the world.	49 E come per opera di Babilonia caddero uccisi quei d'Israele, così cadranno uccisi quei di Babilonia per tutta la terra.
50 You who have escaped her sword, leave her, do not wait! Remember Yahweh from afar, letJerusalem come into your mind.	50 O voi scampati alla spada venite, non v'indugiate, di lontano rammentatevi del Signore e il pensiero di Gerusalemme vi risalga in cuore!
51 -'We were ashamed when we heard of the outrage, we were covered in confusion because foreignershad entered the Temple of Yahweh's holy places.'	51 Siamo rimasti confusi perchè abbiamo sentito l'oltraggio, l'ignominia ha ricoperto la nostra faccia, perchè gli stranieri erano penetrati nel santuario del Signore.
52 -So look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shall punish her idols, and the wounded willgroan throughout her country.	52 Perciò, ecco che i giorni verranno, ed io visiterò i suoi simulacri; vi sarà per tutta la sua terra un muggito di feriti.
53 Were Babylon to scale the heavens or reinforce her towering citadel, destroyers would stil come to her on my orders, Yahweh declares.	53 Anche se Babilonia s'inalzasse fino al cielo e lassù in cima fortificasse la sua potenza, da me le giungerebbero i suoi devastatori, dice il Signore.
54 The din of shouting from Babylon, of immense destruction, from the country of the Chaldaeans!	54 Suono di strida da Babilonia e grande sfacelo nella terra dei Caldei;
55 Yes, Yahweh is laying Babylon waste and silencing her monstrous din, whose waves used to roar likethe ocean and their tumultuous voices rang out.	55 perchè il Signore ha devastato Babilonia e ne ha disperso la gran voce, mugghieranno i loro flutti come acque immense, la loro voce ha rintronato
56 For the destroyer has fal en on Babylon, her warriors are captured, their bows are broken. Yes,Yahweh is a God of retribution, he never fails to repay.	56 perchè è venuto il predone sopra di essa, su Babilonia, e i suoi guerrieri sono stati presi, e il loro arco infracidì; perchè il Signore è un vindice possente che rende la retribuzione.
57 I shal make her princes and her sages drink, her governors, her magistrates, her warriors; they wilfal into an everlasting sleep, never to wake again, declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	57 E io inebrierò i suoi principi, i suoi sapienti, i suoi duci, i suoi magistrati, i suoi prodi e dormiranno un sonno sempiterno e mai più si ridesteranno», dice il re il cui nome è il Signore degli eserciti.
58 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: The wal s of Babylon the Great wil be rased to the ground, and her loftygates wil be burnt down. Thus peoples toil for nothing and nations wear themselves out, for the flames.	58 Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Quella larghissima muraglia di Babilonia sarà divelta dalle fondamenta, le sue eccelse porte saranno arse col fuoco, e le fatiche dei popoli andranno in nulla e quelle delle genti in preda al fuoco, e dispariranno».
59 This is the order that the prophet Jeremiah gave to Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah whenSeraiah left for Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was lordchamberlain.	59 Parola che Geremia profeta ingiunse a Saraia, figlio di Neria, figlio di Maasia, quando partiva col re Sedecia in Babilonia, nell'anno quarto del suo regno. Saraia era capo dell'ambasceria.
60 Now, on one sheet, Jeremiah had written down the entire disaster that was to befal Babylon, that is,al these words recorded here against Babylon.	60 E Geremia scrisse tutto il male che sarebbe per venire sopra Babilonia in un foglio, tutte queste parole soprascritte contro Babilonia.
61 Jeremiah then said to Seraiah, 'When you reach Babylon, see to it that you read al these wordsaloud.	61 Poi Geremia disse a Saraia: «Quando sarai giunto in Babilonia e avrai veduto lo scritto e lette tutte queste parole,
62 Then say, "You, Yahweh, have promised to destroy this place, so that no one will live here ever again,neither human nor animal, and it wil be desolate for ever."	62 dirai: - Signore, tu hai pronunziato la tua parola contro questo luogo per distruggerlo, nè vi rimanga ad abitare più nessuno nè uomo nè animale, e sia una solitudine eterna. -
63 Then, when you have finished reading this sheet, tie a stone to it and throw it into the middle of theEuphrates,	63 Finito che avrai di leggere questo foglio lo legherai a una pietra e lo lancerai in mezzo all'Eufrate
64 with the words, "So shal Babylon sink, never to rise again from the disaster which I am going to bringon her." ' Thus far the words of Jeremiah.	64 e dirai: - Così sarà sommersa Babilonia e non si rialzerà mai più di sotto alle sciagure che sopra di lei farò venire e sparirà -». Fin qui le parole di Geremia.
