1 Yahweh says this: Against Babylon and the inhabitants of Leb-Kamai I shal rouse a destructive wind.	1 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io farò levarsi come un vento pestilenziale contro Babilonia, e contro i suoi abitatori, i quali hanno insolentito contro di me.
2 I shal send winnowers to Babylon to winnow her and leave her country bare, for she wil bebeleaguered on all sides, on the day of disaster.	2 E manderò a Babilonia dei battitori, e getteranno sua paglia al vento, e desoleranno la sua terra; perocché da tutte parti verran contro di lei nel giorno di sua afflizione.
3 Let no archer bend his bow! Let no man swagger in his breastplate!-No quarter for her young men!Curse her whole army with destruction!	3 Chi tende l'arco, nol tenda, e nissuno vada coperto di corazza. Non perdonate alla sua gioventù, uccidete tutte le sue milizie.
4 In the country of the Chaldaeans the slaughtered wil fall, in the streets of Babylon, those run throughby the sword.	4 E i morti cederanno nella terra de' Caldei, e i fertiti nelle sue regioni.
5 For Israel and Judah have not been bereft of their God, Yahweh Sabaoth, although their country wasful of sin against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Perocché Israele, e Giuda non è rimaso senza il suo Dio, senza il Signor degli eserciti: ma la loro terra fu ripiena di delitti contro il Santo d'Israele.
6 Escape from Babylon (save your lives, each one of you); do not perish for her guilt, for now is the timefor Yahweh's vengeance: he wil pay her her reward!	6 Fuggite di mezzo a Babilonia, e metta in salvo ciascuno la propria vita: non siate indolenti sopra le sue iniquità; Serocchè viene il tempo della vendetta del Signore, ei le renderà il contraccambio:
7 Babylon was a golden cup in Yahweh's hand, she made the whole world drunk, the nations drank herwine and then went mad.	7 Babilonia nella man del Signore fu un calice d'oro da inebriare tutta la terra. Di quel suo vino tutte bevver le genti, e ne furono alterate.

9 -'We tried to cure Babylon; she has got no better. Leave her alone and let us each go to his owncountry.' -Yes, her sentence reaches to the sky, rises to the very clouds.	9 Abbiam medicata Babilonia, e non è guarita, abbandoniamla, e andiancene ognuno al suo paese; perocché i suoi delitti arrivarono fino al cielo, e si alzavan fino alle nuvole.
10 Yahweh has shown the uprightness of our cause. Come, let us tell in Zion what Yahweh our God hasdone.	10 Il Signore ha fatta apparire la nostra giustizia: venite, e annunzia mo in Sion l'opera del Signore Dio nostro.
11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! Yahweh has roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, becausehe has a plan against Babylon to destroy it; this is Yahweh's revenge, revenge for his Temple.	11 Appuntate le vostre frecce, empite turcassi. Il Signore ha suscitato lo spirito dei re di Media, ed egli ha presa la sua risoluzione contro Babilonia per isterminarla; perchè dee essere vendicato il Signore, vendicato il suo tempio.
12 Against the wal s of Babylon raise the standard! Strengthen the guard! Post the sentries! Take upconcealed positions! For Yahweh has both planned and done what he promised he would to the inhabitants ofBabylon.	12 Sulle mura di Babilonia alzate lo stendardo, aumentate le guardie, ponete le ascolte, preparate stratagemmi; perocché il Signore ha risoluto, ed ha eseguito tutto quello, che egli predisse contro gli abitatori di Babilonia.
13 Enthroned beside abundant waters, rich in treasures, you now meet your end, the finish of yourpil aging.	13 O tu, che siedi sopra le molte acque, ricca de' tuoi tesori, è venuto il tuo fine, il punto fisso del tuo eccidio.
14 By his own self Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn: I shal fil you with men as though with grasshoppers,and over you they wil raise the triumph-shout.	14 Il Signore degli eserciti ha giurato per se medesimo: Io t'inonderò di turbe di uomini come le locuste, e sopra di te sarà cantata la canzone della, vendemmia.
15 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, by his discernment spread out theheavens.	15 Egli è che fece con sua possanza o la terra, e il mondo dispose colla sua sapienza, e colla intelligenza sua ordinò i cieli.
16 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the furthest limits ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.	16 A una sua voce si adunano le acque nel cielo; egli alza dalle estremità della terra le nuvole: scioglie i folgori in pioggia, e da' suoi tesori ne tragge il vento.
17 At this everyone stands stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.	17 Stolto diventò l'uomo del suo sapere. La statua stessa confonde e ogni artefice: perchè cosa falsa è quella, che egli ha fatto, e spirito in lei non è.
18 They are futile, a laughable production, when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.	18 Sono opere vane, e degne di riso: è al tempo della visita periran queste cose.
19 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage; His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	19 Non è come questi colui, che è la porzion di Giacobbe: imperocché egli è, che ha fatte tutte le cose, e Israele è il remo suo ereditario. 20 You were my mace, a weapon of war. With you I crushed nations, struck kingdoms down,	20 Tu se' stata per me il martello, che hai stritolate le armi, e gli armati, e per mezzo di te io conquasserò le genti, e desolerò i reami:
21 with you crushed horse and rider, with you crushed chariot and charioteer,	21 E per mezzo di te sperderò i cavalli, e i cavalieri, e per mezzo di te sperderò i cocchi, e que', che li guidano:
22 with you crushed man and woman, with you crushed old man and young, with you crushed youngman and girl,	22 E per mezzo di te sperderò uomini, e donne, e per te sperderò vecchj, e fanciulli, e sperderò per te giovani, e fanciulle:
23 with you crushed shepherd and flock, with you crushed ploughman and team, with you crushedgovernors and magistrates,	23 E per mezzo di te sperderò il pastore, e il suo gregge, e per te sperderò il bifolco, e i buoi, che van sotto il giogo; e per te sperderò i condottieri, e i magistrati.
24 and I shal repay Babylon and the inhabitants of Chaldaea, before your eyes, for al the wrongs theyhave done to Zion, Yahweh declares.	24 Ed io poi renderò sotto gli occhi vostri a Babilonia, e a tutti gli abitatori della Caldea tutto il male, che fecero contro Sionne, dice il Signore.
25 I am setting myself against you, mountain of destruction, Yahweh declares, destroyer of the wholeworld! I shall reach out my hand for you and send you tumbling from the crags and make you a burnt-outmountain.	25 Eccomi a te, o pestifero monte (dice il Signore), che infetti tutta quanta la terra: ed io stenderò la mano mia contro di te, e ti precipiterò dalle tue rupi, e farotti un monte di incendio.
26 No corner-stone wil be taken from you again and no foundation-stone, for you will be a desert forever, Yahweh declares.	26 Non si trarrà da te pietra da mettere all'angolo, né pietra da gettare ne' fondamenti: ma sarai distrutto in eterno, dice il Signore.
27 Raise the standard throughout the world, sound the trumpet among the nations! Consecrate nationsto make war on her; summon kingdoms against her: Ararat, Minni, Ashkenaz; appoint a recruiting-officer for herenemies, bring up the cavalry, bristling like locusts.	27 Alzate lo stendardo: suonate la tromba tralle nazioni: preparate alla guerra sacra contro di lei i popoli: convocate contro di lei i regi di Ararat, di Menni, e di Ascenez: numerate i soldati di Taphsar contro di lei: mettete in campo cavalli come un esercito di cavallette armate di pungiglioni.
28 Consecrate nations to make war on her: the kings of Media, her governors, all her magistrates andthe whole territory under their rule.	28 Preparate alla guerra sacra contro di lei i regi di Media, e i suoi capitani, e tutti i suoi grandi, e tutte le provincie, che ad essi sono soggette.
29 Then the earth trembled and writhed, for Yahweh's plan against Babylon was being executed: tochange the country of Babylon into an unpopulated desert.	29 E la terra sarà scommossa, e sconturbata; perchè tosto avrà effetto la risoluzion del Signore, da cui la terra di Babilonia sarà renduta deserta, e inabitabile.
30 The warriors of Babylon have done with fighting, they have stayed inside their fortresses; theircourage exhausted, they are now like women. Her houses are on fire, her gates are shattered.	30 I forti di Babilonia han lasciata la pugna, se ne stanno ne' luoghi fortificati: il lor valore se n'è andato, son diventati come femmine: le loro tende sono state abbruciate, e i contrafforti delle porte sono spezzati.
31 Courier fol ows close on courier, messenger on messenger, to tel the king of Babylon that his city hasbeen taken from al sides,	31 Il corridore incontrerà il corridore, e il messaggiere s'imbatterà nel messaggiere: ei vanno a far sapere al re di Babilonia, che la città è presa da un'estremità all'altra:

33 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floorwhen it is being trodden: a little while, and then the time for harvesting her wil come.	33 Imperocché queste cose dice il Signor degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: La figliuola di Babilonia è come un'aia, quest'è il tempo di sua battitura: ancora un po' di tempo, e la mietitura e di lei verrà.
34 He devoured me, consumed me, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, left me like an empty dish, like theDragon he has swal owed me whole, filled his belly with my titbits and threw me out.	34 Mi ha consunta, mi ha divorata Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia; mi ha ridotta come un vaso vuoto: egli, qual dragone mi ha assorbita: ha empiuto il suo ventre di tutto quello, che io aveva di meglio, e mi ha mandata in dispersione.
35 'On Babylon be the wounds I suffered!' the daughter of Zion wil say. 'On the inhabitants of Chaldaeabe my blood!' Jerusalem wil say.	35 L'iniquità commessa contro di me, e il macello della mia carne sta sopra Babilonia, dice la figliuola di Sion, e il sangue mio sopra gli abitatori della Caldea, dice Gerusalemme.
36 So, Yahweh says this: Look, I am taking up your cause to make sure you are avenged. I shal dry herriver up, make her springs run dry.	36 Per questo così dice il Signore: Ecco, che io giudicherò la tua causa, e farò tue vendette, e asciugherò il mare di Babilonia, e seccherò le sue sorgenti.
37 Babylon wil become a heap of stones, the lair of jackals, a thing of horror and of scorn, with no oneliving in it.	37 E Babilonia sarà una massa di rovine, abitazion di dragoni, oggetto di spavento, e di scherno, perchè non avrà abitatore.
38 Like lions they roar together, they growl like lions' whelps.	38 Ruggiranno insieme come lioni, e come giovani lioncelli scuoteranno i lor crini.
39 Are they feverish? I wil prepare them a drink and make them drink until they are tipsy and fal into aneverlasting sleep, never to wake again, Yahweh declares.	39 Li farò riscaldale nelle lor gozzoviglie, e gl'inebrierò, affinchè si addormentino, e dormano un sonno sempiterno, e più non si alzino, dice il Signore.
40 I wil drag them away to the slaughterhouse like lambs, like rams and goats.	40 Li condurrò come agnelli al macello, e come arieti coi capretti.
41 What! Has Sheshak been taken, been conquered, the pride of the whole world? What a thing of horrorBabylon has become throughout the nations!	41 Come mai è stata presa Sesach, e vinta la gloria di tutta la terra? Come mai Babilonia è diventata l'orrore di tutti i popoli?
42 The sea has risen over Babylon, she sinks beneath its boisterous waves.	42 Un mare ha inondato Babilonia, e la massa de' suoi flutti la ha affogata.
43 Her towns have been turned into wasteland, a parched land, a desert, a country where no one livesand where nobody goes.	43 Le sue città son divenute spettacolo di terrore, terra inabitabile, e deserta, nella quale niuno possa abitare, né figliuolo nell'uomo passarvi.
44 I shal punish Bel in Babylon and make him disgorge what he has swal owed. In future the nations wilstream to him no more. The very walls of Babylon wil fal .	44 E visiterò Bel in Babilonia, e farogli vomitare quel, che ha ingoiato, e non accorreranno più a lui i popoli; perocché anche le mura di Babilonia anderanno in rovina.
45 Get out of her, my people; save your lives, each one of you, from Yahweh's furious anger.	45 Uscite da lei, popol mio, affinchè ognuno salvar possa la propria vita dall'ira furibonda del Signore.
46 But do not be faint-hearted! Do not take fright at rumours hawked round the country: one rumourspreads one year, next year another fol ows; violence rules on earth and one tyrant succeeds another.	46 E badate, che il vostro cuore non si sbigottisca, e non vi faccian paura le nuove, che si sentiran pel paese; un anno verrà una nuova; e dopo quest'anno altra nuova; e la tirannide nel paese, e un dominatore dopo l'altro dominatore;
47 So look, the days are coming when I shal punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire country wil behumbled, with all her slaughtered lying on home-soil.	47 Perocché allora verrà il tempo, in cui visiterò i simulacri di Babilonia, e tutta la sua terra sarà in confusione, e tutti i suoi (cittadini) cadranno uccisi in mezzo a lei.
48 The heaven and earth and all within them wil shout for joy over Babylon, for the destroyers from thenorth are coming to her, Yahweh declares.	48 I cieli, e la terra, e quanto in essi contiensi, canteranno laude a cagione di Babilonia, perchè da settentrione verranno i suoi distruttori, dice il Signore.
49 Babylon in her turn must fal , you slaughtered ones of Israel, just as through Babylon there fel menslaughtered al over the world.	49 E come Babilonia fece, che tanti cadesser uccisi in Israele, cosi molti de' Babilonesi cadranno uccisi per tutto il paese.
50 You who have escaped her sword, leave her, do not wait! Remember Yahweh from afar, letJerusalem come into your mind.	50 Voi, che avete fuggita la spada, venite, non vi fermate: da lungi ricordatevi del Signore, e ritornivi in cuore Gerusalemme.
51 -'We were ashamed when we heard of the outrage, we were covered in confusion because foreignershad entered the Temple of Yahweh's holy places.'	51 Noi siam confusi degli obbrobri, che abbiamo uditi: i nostri volti sono coperti d'ignominia; perocché gli stranieri entrarono nella casa santa del Signore.
52 -So look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shall punish her idols, and the wounded willgroan throughout her country.	52 Per questo ecco, che viene il tempo, dice il Signore, e farò mie vendette sopra i suoi simulacri: e muggiranno i feriti per tutto il suo territori.
53 Were Babylon to scale the heavens or reinforce her towering citadel, destroyers would stil come to her on my orders, Yahweh declares.	53 Se Babilonia s'innalzerà fino al cielo, e nell'alto fisserà sua possanza, da me saranno mandati i suoi distruttori, dice il Signore.
54 The din of shouting from Babylon, of immense destruction, from the country of the Chaldaeans!	54 Strida grandi da Babilonia, e fracasso grande dalla terra de Caldei.
55 Yes, Yahweh is laying Babylon waste and silencing her monstrous din, whose waves used to roar likethe ocean and their tumultuous voices rang out.	55 Perocché il Signore ha devastata Babilonia, ed ha fatte cessare in lei le voci superbe: sarà il romore di que' flutti simile ad una gran massa di acque: tal sarà il suono delle lor voci:
56 For the destroyer has fal en on Babylon, her warriors are captured, their bows are broken. Yes,Yahweh is a God of retribution, he never fails to repay.	56 Imperocché è venuto sopra di Babilonia il ladrone, e i suoi guerrieri sono stati sorpresi, e il loro arco è stato senza forza; perchè forte vendicatore è il Signore, che rende il contraccambio.
57 I shal make her princes and her sages drink, her governors, her magistrates, her warriors; they wilfal into an everlasting sleep, never to wake again, declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	57 Ed io inebrierò i suoi principi, e i suoi sapienti, e i suoi capitani, e i suoi magistrati, e i suoi campioni; e dormiranno un sonno eterno, e non si risveglieranno, dice il Re, che ha nome il Signore degli eserciti.
58 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: The wal s of Babylon the Great wil be rased to the ground, and her loftygates wil be burnt down. Thus peoples toil for nothing and nations wear themselves out, for the flames.	58 Queste cose dice il Signor degli eserciti: Quella muraglia larghissima di Babilonia sarà rovinata da sommo a imo, e le sue altissime porte saranno arse dalla fiamme, e le fatiche de' popoli, e delle nazioni saranno annichiate, e distrutte dal fuoco, e periranno.
59 This is the order that the prophet Jeremiah gave to Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah whenSeraiah left for Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was lordchamberlain.	59 Comandamento dato da Geremia profeta a Saraia figliuolo di Neria, figliuolo di Maasia, quando andava con Sedecia re a Babilonia l'anno quarto del regno di lui. Or Saraia era capo dell'imbasciata.
60 Now, on one sheet, Jeremiah had written down the entire disaster that was to befal Babylon, that is,al these words recorded here against Babylon.	60 Descrisse Geremia tutte le sciagure, che dovean cadere sopra Babilonia in un libro, e tutte queste parole, che sono scritte contro Babilonia.
61 Jeremiah then said to Seraiah, 'When you reach Babylon, see to it that you read al these wordsaloud.	61 E Geremia disse a Saraia: Quando tu sarai arrivato a Babilonia, e avrai vedute, e lette tutte queste parole,
62 Then say, "You, Yahweh, have promised to destroy this place, so that no one will live here ever again,neither human nor animal, and it wil be desolate for ever."	62 Dirai: Tu, Signore, hai minacciato di distruggere questo luogo a segno, che non ci rimanga chi lo abiti né uomo, né bestia, e sia qui solitudine eterna.
63 Then, when you have finished reading this sheet, tie a stone to it and throw it into the middle of theEuphrates,	63 E quando avrai finito di leggere questo libro, lo legherai a una pietra, e lo getterai in mezzo all'Eufrate:
64 with the words, "So shal Babylon sink, never to rise again from the disaster which I am going to bringon her." ' Thus far the words of Jeremiah.	64 E dirai: In tal guisa sarà sommersa Babilonia, e non risorgerà dall'eccidio, che io mando sopra di lei, e verrà meno. Fin qui le parole di Geremia.
