Jeremiah 51

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Yahweh says this: Against Babylon and the inhabitants of Leb-Kamai I shal rouse a destructive wind.	1 Así habla el Señor: ¡Miren que yo suscito contra Babilonia y contra los habitantes de Leb Camai un viento arrasador!
2 I shal send winnowers to Babylon to winnow her and leave her country bare, for she wil bebeleaguered on all sides, on the day of disaster.	2 Yo envío aventadores a Babilonia, para que la avienten y vacíen su tierra. ¡Sí, la atacarán de todas partes en el día de su desgracia!
3 Let no archer bend his bow! Let no man swagger in his breastplate!-No quarter for her young men!Curse her whole army with destruction!	3 Que el arquero tense su arco y se yerga en su coraza. No perdonen a sus jóvenes, consagren al exterminio todo su ejército.
4 In the country of the Chaldaeans the slaughtered wil fall, in the streets of Babylon, those run throughby the sword.	4 Que caigan víctimas de la espada en el país de los caldeos, y sean traspasados en sus calles.
5 For Israel and Judah have not been bereft of their God, Yahweh Sabaoth, although their country wasful of sin against the Holy One of Israel.	5 Porque su país está lleno de crímenes contra el Santo de Israel; porque Israel y Judá no han enviudado de su Dios, el Señor de los ejércitos.
6 Escape from Babylon (save your lives, each one of you); do not perish for her guilt, for now is the timefor Yahweh's vengeance: he wil pay her her reward!	6 ¡Huyan de en medio de Babilonia y sálvese quien pueda! ¡No perezcan por culpa de ella! Porque este es para el Señor el tiempo de la venganza; él le dará su merecido.
7 Babylon was a golden cup in Yahweh's hand, she made the whole world drunk, the nations drank herwine and then went mad.	7 Babilonia era una copa de oro en la mano del Señor, para embriagar a toda la tierra; las naciones bebieron su vino, por eso se enloquecieron.
8 Babylon has suddenly fal en, is broken: wail for her! Fetch balm for her wounds, perhaps she can becured!	8 De pronto cayó Babilonia y se quebró. –¡Giman por ella! Traigan bálsamo para su dolor, a ver si se cura.
9 -'We tried to cure Babylon; she has got no better. Leave her alone and let us each go to his owncountry.' -Yes, her sentence reaches to the sky, rises to the very clouds.	9 –Hemos querido curar a Babilonia, pero no sanó. –¡Déjenla y vayámonos, cada uno a su país, porque el juicio contra ella llega hasta el cielo y se eleva hasta las nubes!
10 Yahweh has shown the uprightness of our cause. Come, let us tell in Zion what Yahweh our God hasdone.	10 El Señor nos ha reivindicado: ¡vengan a contar en Sión la obra del Señor, nuestro Dios!
11 Sharpen the arrows, fill the quivers! Yahweh has roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes, becausehe has a plan against Babylon to destroy it; this is Yahweh's revenge, revenge for his Temple.	11 ¡Afilen las flechas, provéanse de escudos! El Señor despertó el espíritu del rey de los Medos, porque tiene pensado destruirla. ¡Sí, esta es la venganza de nuestro Dios, la venganza de su Templo!
12 Against the wal s of Babylon raise the standard! Strengthen the guard! Post the sentries! Take upconcealed positions! For Yahweh has both planned and done what he promised he would to the inhabitants ofBabylon.	12 ¡Levanten un estandarte contra los muros de Babilonia, refuercen la guardia, aposten centinelas, tiendan emboscadas! Porque el Señor decidió llevar a cabo lo que dijo contra los habitante de Babel.
13 Enthroned beside abundant waters, rich in treasures, you now meet your end, the finish of yourpil aging.	13 Tú que habitas junto a las aguas caudalosas y eres rica en tesoros: ha llegado tu fin, el término de tus ganancias.
14 By his own self Yahweh Sabaoth has sworn: I shal fil you with men as though with grasshoppers,and over you they wil raise the triumph-shout.	14 El Señor de los ejércitos lo juró por sí mismo: «Te llenaré de hombres como de langostas, y entonarán contra ti el canto de los vendimiadores».
15 By his power he made the earth, by his wisdom set the world firm, by his discernment spread out theheavens.	15 Con su poder, él hizo la tierra, con su sabiduría, afianzó el mundo, y con su inteligencia extendió el cielo.
16 When he thunders there is a roaring of waters in heaven; he raises clouds from the furthest limits ofthe earth, makes the lightning flash for the downpour, and brings the wind from his storehouse.	16 Cuando él truena, retumban las aguas en el cielo, hace subir las nubes desde el horizonte, desata la lluvia con los relámpagos, hace salir el viento de sus depósitos.
17 At this everyone stands stupefied, uncomprehending, every goldsmith blushes for his idols; hiscastings are but delusion, with no breath in them.	17 El hombre queda aturdido, sin comprender, el fundidor se avergüenza de su ídolo, porque su estatua es una mentira y no hay en nada de eso aliento de vida;
18 They are futile, a laughable production, when the time comes for them to be punished, they wilvanish.	18 son pura vanidad, una obra ridícula, perecerán cuando haya que dar cuenta.
19 The Heritage of Jacob is not like these, for he is the maker of everything, and Israel is the tribe that ishis heritage; His name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	19 Pero no es como ellos la Parte de Jacob, porque él ha modelado todas las cosas; Israel es la tribu de su herencia, su nombre es Señor de los ejércitos.
20 You were my mace, a weapon of war. With you I crushed nations, struck kingdoms down,	20 Tú fuiste para mí un martillo, un arma de guerra. Contigo martillé naciones, contigo destruí reinos,
21 with you crushed horse and rider, with you crushed chariot and charioteer,	21 contigo martillé caballos y jinetes, contigo martillé carros de guerra y conductores,
22 with you crushed man and woman, with you crushed old man and young, with you crushed youngman and girl,	22 contigo martillé hombres y mujeres, contigo martillé ancianos y niños, contigo martillé jóvenes y muchachas,
23 with you crushed shepherd and flock, with you crushed ploughman and team, with you crushedgovernors and magistrates,	23 contigo martillé pastores y rebaños, contigo martillé labradores y yuntas, contigo martillé gobernadores y prefectos.
24 and I shal repay Babylon and the inhabitants of Chaldaea, before your eyes, for al the wrongs theyhave done to Zion, Yahweh declares.	24 Pero yo haré pagar a Babilonia y a todos los habitantes de Caldea, a la vista de ustedes, todo el mal que ellos hicieron en Sión –oráculo del Señor–.
25 I am setting myself against you, mountain of destruction, Yahweh declares, destroyer of the wholeworld! I shall reach out my hand for you and send you tumbling from the crags and make you a burnt-outmountain.	25 ¡Aquí estoy contra ti, Montaña de la Destrucción –oráculo del Señor– que destruías toda la tierra! Extenderé mi mano contra ti, te haré rodar de lo alto de las rocas y haré rodar de lo alto de las rocas y haré de ti una montaña de brasas.
26 No corner-stone wil be taken from you again and no foundation-stone, for you will be a desert forever, Yahweh declares.	26 No se extraerá de ti ni piedra angular ni piedra de fundación, porque serás una desolación eterna –oráculo del Señor–.
27 Raise the standard throughout the world, sound the trumpet among the nations! Consecrate nationsto make war on her; summon kingdoms against her: Ararat, Minni, Ashkenaz; appoint a recruiting-officer for herenemies, bring up the cavalry, bristling like locusts.	27 ¡Levanten un estandarte en el país, toquen la trompeta entre las naciones! Convoquen a las naciones para la guerra santa, recluten a los reinos contra ella: a Ararat, Miní y Asquenaz. Designen oficiales para el reclutamiento, hagan avanzar los caballos como langostas erizadas.
28 Consecrate nations to make war on her: the kings of Media, her governors, all her magistrates andthe whole territory under their rule.	28 Alisten naciones contra ella, al rey de Media, a sus gobernadores y a todos sus prefectos, a toda la tierra bajo su dominio.
29 Then the earth trembled and writhed, for Yahweh's plan against Babylon was being executed: tochange the country of Babylon into an unpopulated desert.	29 La tierra tiembla y se sacude, porque se cumple contra Babel el proyecto del Señor de reducir su país a una devastación sin habitantes.
30 The warriors of Babylon have done with fighting, they have stayed inside their fortresses; theircourage exhausted, they are now like women. Her houses are on fire, her gates are shattered.	30 Los guerreros de Babilonia dejaron de combatir, se quedaron en las fortalezas; se ha secado su vigor, se han vuelto como mujeres; sus moradas han sido incendiadas, se han roto sus cerrojos.
31 Courier fol ows close on courier, messenger on messenger, to tel the king of Babylon that his city hasbeen taken from al sides,	31 Va corriendo un emisario tras otro, un mensajero tras otro, para anunciar al rey de Babilonia que toda su ciudad ha sido tomada.
32 the fords occupied, the bastions burnt down and the fighting men seized with panic.	32 Los vados han sido ocupados, los bastiones, incendiados, los hombres de guerra están despavoridos.
33 For Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: the daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floorwhen it is being trodden: a little while, and then the time for harvesting her wil come.	33 Porque así habla el Señor de los ejército, el Dios de Israel: La hija de Babilonia es como una era en el momento de ser apisonada; un poco más, y llegará para ella el tiempo de la cosecha.
34 He devoured me, consumed me, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, left me like an empty dish, like theDragon he has swal owed me whole, filled his belly with my titbits and threw me out.	34 ¡Me ha devorado, me ha consumido Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia! ¡Me ha dejado como un plato vacío! ¡Me ha tragado como el Dragón, ha llenado su vientre con mis delicias y me ha expulsado!
35 'On Babylon be the wounds I suffered!' the daughter of Zion wil say. 'On the inhabitants of Chaldaeabe my blood!' Jerusalem wil say.	35 ¡Que la violencia hecha a mi carne caiga sobre Babel!, dice la que habita en Sión. ¡Caiga mi sangre sobre los habitantes de Caldea!, dice Jerusalén.
36 So, Yahweh says this: Look, I am taking up your cause to make sure you are avenged. I shal dry herriver up, make her springs run dry.	36 Por eso, así habla el Señor: Yo voy a defender tu causa y a encargarme de tu venganza; yo secaré su mar y agotaré su manantial.
37 Babylon wil become a heap of stones, the lair of jackals, a thing of horror and of scorn, with no oneliving in it.	37 Babel será un montón de escombros, una guarida de chacales, una devastación y un motivo de estupor, un lugar deshabitado
38 Like lions they roar together, they growl like lions' whelps.	38 Rugen todos juntos como cachorros de león, gruñen como crías de leonas.
39 Are they feverish? I wil prepare them a drink and make them drink until they are tipsy and fal into aneverlasting sleep, never to wake again, Yahweh declares.	39 Mientras entran en calor, les preparo un festín los embriagaré para que se emboten; así dormirán un sueño eterno y no se despertarán –oráculo del Señor–.
40 I wil drag them away to the slaughterhouse like lambs, like rams and goats.	40 Los haré bajar como corderos al matadero, como carneros y chivos.
41 What! Has Sheshak been taken, been conquered, the pride of the whole world? What a thing of horrorBabylon has become throughout the nations!	41 ¡Cómo ha sido tomada Sesac y conquistada la gloria de toda la tierra! ¡Cómo ha sido devastada Babilonia en medio de las naciones!
42 The sea has risen over Babylon, she sinks beneath its boisterous waves.	42 El mar subió contra Babel, la cubrió el tumulto de sus olas.
43 Her towns have been turned into wasteland, a parched land, a desert, a country where no one livesand where nobody goes.	43 Sus ciudades son una devastación, un páramo, una estepa, nadie habita en ellas, por allí no pasa ningún hombre.
44 I shal punish Bel in Babylon and make him disgorge what he has swal owed. In future the nations wilstream to him no more. The very walls of Babylon wil fal .	44 Yo castigaré a Bel en Babel, sacaré de su boca lo que se tragó; las naciones no afluirán más hacia él, y hasta el muro de Babilonia caerá.
45 Get out of her, my people; save your lives, each one of you, from Yahweh's furious anger.	45 ¡Salgan de en medio de ella, pueblo mío, y salve cada uno su vida del ardor de la ira del Señor!
46 But do not be faint-hearted! Do not take fright at rumours hawked round the country: one rumourspreads one year, next year another fol ows; violence rules on earth and one tyrant succeeds another.	46 No se descorazonen, ni teman por los rumores que se oirán en el país. Un año correrá un rumor y otro el año siguiente: la violencia reinará en el país y un tirano se levantará contra otro.
47 So look, the days are coming when I shal punish the idols of Babylon. Her entire country wil behumbled, with all her slaughtered lying on home-soil.	47 Porque llegarán los días en que pediré cuenta a los ídolos de Babilonia: todo su país se cubrirá de vergüenza y caerán sus víctimas en medio de ella.
48 The heaven and earth and all within them wil shout for joy over Babylon, for the destroyers from thenorth are coming to her, Yahweh declares.	48 Gritarán jubilosos contra Babilonia el cielo, la tierra y lo que hay en ella, porque del Norte llegarán sus devastadores –oráculo del Señor–.
49 Babylon in her turn must fal , you slaughtered ones of Israel, just as through Babylon there fel menslaughtered al over the world.	49 Babilonia también tiene que caer por las víctimas de Israel, así como cayeron por Babilonia las víctimas de toda la tierra.
50 You who have escaped her sword, leave her, do not wait! Remember Yahweh from afar, letJerusalem come into your mind.	50 ¡Vayan, salvados de la espada, no se detengan! ¡Acuérdense del Señor desde lejos y piensen en Jerusalén!
51 -'We were ashamed when we heard of the outrage, we were covered in confusion because foreignershad entered the Temple of Yahweh's holy places.'	51 Sentíamos vergüenza al oír el ultraje, la confusión cubría nuestro rostro, porque penetraron extranjeros en los lugares santos de la Casa del Señor.
52 -So look, the days are coming, Yahweh declares, when I shall punish her idols, and the wounded willgroan throughout her country.	52 Por eso, llegarán los días –oráculo del Señor– en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia y las víctimas gemirán en todo su país.
53 Were Babylon to scale the heavens or reinforce her towering citadel, destroyers would stil come to her on my orders, Yahweh declares.	53 Aunque Babel se eleve hasta el cielo y haga inaccesible su alta fortaleza, le llegarán devastadores de parte mía –oráculo del Señor–.
54 The din of shouting from Babylon, of immense destruction, from the country of the Chaldaeans!	54 ¡Oigan! Un clamor sale de Babilonia, un gran estruendo del país de los caldeos.
55 Yes, Yahweh is laying Babylon waste and silencing her monstrous din, whose waves used to roar likethe ocean and their tumultuous voices rang out.	55 Porque el Señor devasta a Babilonia y hace cesar su gran estrépito: sus olas braman como las aguas caudalosas y resuena el estruendo de su voz.
56 For the destroyer has fal en on Babylon, her warriors are captured, their bows are broken. Yes,Yahweh is a God of retribution, he never fails to repay.	56 Porque llega contra Babilonia un devastador: sus guerreros son capturados, se quiebran sus arcos. Sí, el Señor es el Dios de las represalias: él paga estrictamente.
57 I shal make her princes and her sages drink, her governors, her magistrates, her warriors; they wilfal into an everlasting sleep, never to wake again, declares the King, whose name is Yahweh Sabaoth.	57 Yo embriagaré a sus príncipes y a sus sabios, a sus gobernadores, a sus prefectos y sus guerreros: ellos dormirán el sueño eterno y no se despertarán –oráculo del Rey cuyo nombre es Señor de los ejércitos–.
58 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: The wal s of Babylon the Great wil be rased to the ground, and her loftygates wil be burnt down. Thus peoples toil for nothing and nations wear themselves out, for the flames.	58 Así habla el Señor de los ejércitos: Los muros de Babilonia, la extensa, serán arrasados por completo, y sus altas puertas serán incendiadas. Así, los pueblos se fatigan por nada y sólo para el fuego se extenúan las naciones.
59 This is the order that the prophet Jeremiah gave to Seraiah son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah whenSeraiah left for Babylon with Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year of his reign. Seraiah was lordchamberlain.	59 Esta es la orden que el profeta Jeremías dio a Seraías, hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, cuando este partió para Babilonia con Sedecías, rey de Judá, en el cuarto año de su reinado. Seraías era el encargado de las etapas durante la marcha.

61 Jeremiah then said to Seraiah, 'When you reach Babylon, see to it that you read al these wordsaloud.	61 Y Jeremías dijo a Seraías: «Cuando llegues a Babilonia, procura leer en voz alta todas estas palabras.
62 Then say, "You, Yahweh, have promised to destroy this place, so that no one will live here ever again,neither human nor animal, and it wil be desolate for ever."	62 Luego dirás: «Señor, tú has dicho de este lugar que sería destruido, de manera que no quedaría en él ningún habitante, ni hombre ni animal, sino que sería una desolación perpetua».
63 Then, when you have finished reading this sheet, tie a stone to it and throw it into the middle of theEuphrates,	63 Y cuando hayas acabado de leer este libro, lo atarás a una piedra y lo arrojarás en medio del Eufrates.
64 with the words, "So shal Babylon sink, never to rise again from the disaster which I am going to bringon her." ' Thus far the words of Jeremiah.	64 Entonces dirás: De esta manera se hundirá Babilonia, y no se levantará nunca más de la desgracia que yo haré venir sobre ella». Aquí concluyen las palabras de Jeremías.
