Jeremiah 3

1 'If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and becomes someone else's, has he the right to go backto her? Has not that piece of land been total y pol uted? And you, having played the whore with many lovers, youclaim the right to come back to me! Yahweh demands.	1 Si dice comunemente: Se un uomo ripudia la propria moglie, e questa andatasene da lui prende un altro marito, ritornerà egli mai più a lei il primo? Non sarebb'ella colei immonda, e contaminata? Ma tu con molti amatori hai peccato, e con tutto questo il Signore dice: Ritorna a me, ed io ti riceverò.
2 'Lift your eyes to the bare heights and look! Where have you not offered your sex! You waited by theroadside for them like an Arab in the desert. You have polluted the country with your prostitution and your vices:	2 Alza in alto i tuoi occhi, e mira in qual luogo tu non abbi peccato. Tu sedevi lungo le strade aspettando gli uomini, come fa un ladrone ne' luoghi disabitati: e colle tue fornicazioni, e colle tue malvagità contaminasti la terra.
3 this is why the showers have been withheld, the late rains have not come. 'But you maintained aprostitute's bold front, with no trace of a blush.	3 Per la qual cosa fu proibito, che non istillasser acque dal ciclo, e mancò la piova serotina. Tu ti sei fatta una faccia di meretrice; non hai voluto arrossire.
4 From now on, do not cry out at me, "My father! My beloved ever since I was young!	4 Almen ora adunque dimmi: Tu padre mio, custode di mia verginità se' tu:
5 Wil he keep up his anger for ever, maintain his wrath to the end?" You say this but stil go on sinning,being so obstinate.'	5 Ti adirerai tu per sempre, e persevererai (nell' ira) sino alla fine? Ecco che tu hai detto, e fatto ogni male, e se' stata potente.
6 In the days of King Josiah, Yahweh said to me, 'Have you seen what disloyal Israel has done? How shehas made her way up every high hil and to every green tree, and played the whore there?	6 E il Signore dissemi ne' giorni di Josia re: Hai tu veduto quello, che ha fatto la ribelle figliuola d'Israele? Ella se n'è andata da se su tutti i monti elevati, e sotto ogni ombrosa pianta, ed ivi ha peccato.
7 I thought, "After doing al this she wil come back to me." But she did not come back. Her faithless sister Judah saw this.	7 E quand'ella tutte queste cose ebbe fatte, io le dissi: Ritorna a me: ed ella non ritornò. E la peccatrice sorella di lei, la figlia di Giuda vide,
8 She also saw that I had repudiated disloyal Israel for al her adulteries and given her her divorce papers.Her faithless sister Judah, however, was not afraid: she too went and played the whore.	8 Com' io avea rigettata la ribelle figliuola d'Israele, perchè era stata in fedele, e le avea dato il libello del ripudio; e la prevaricatrice sorella, Giuda, non ebbe timore, ma se n'andò, e di venne anch' essa infedele.
9 And with her shameless whoring, she pol uted the country; she committed adultery with stones andpieces of wood.	9 E colla frequenza di sue fornicazioni contaminò la terra, e amò la pietra, ed il legno.
10 Worse than all this: Judah, her faithless sister, has come back to me not in sincerity, but only inpretence, Yahweh declares.'	10 E dopo tutte queste cose la prevaricatrice figlia di Giuda sua sorella non ritornò a me con tutto il suo cuore, ma con finzione, dice il Signore.
11 And Yahweh said to me, 'Disloyal Israel is upright, compared with faithless Judah.	11 E il Signore mi disse: La ribelle Israele ha un'anima giusta in comparazione della peccatrice figliuola di Giuda.
12 So go and shout words towards the north, and say: "Come back, disloyal Israel, Yahweh declares, Ishall frown on you no more, since I am merciful, Yahweh declares. I shal not keep my anger for ever.	12 Va, e ad alta voce ripeti queste parole verso il settentrione, e dirai: Torna, Israele ribelle (dice il Signore), ed io non celerò a voi la mia faccia; perocché io son santo, dice il Signore, e non terrò per sempre lo sdegno.
13 Only acknowledge your guilt: how you have rebelled against Yahweh your God, how you haveprostituted yourself with the Strangers under every green tree and have not listened to my voice, Yahwehdeclares.	13 Conosci però la tua iniquità; perocché contro il Signore Dio tuo tu hai peccato; e sotto ogni pianta ombrosa ti desti preda agli stranieri, e non ascoltasti la voce mia, dice il Signore.
14 "Come back, disloyal children, Yahweh declares, for I alone am your Master, and I wil take you, onefrom a town, two from a family, and bring you to Zion.	14 Convertitevi a me figliuoli apostati, dice il Signore: perocché io sono il vostro sposo: e vi scieglierò, uno d'una città, e due di una famiglia, e vi condurrò dentro in Sionne.
15 I shal give you shepherds after my own heart, who wil pasture you wisely and discreetly.	15 E darò a voi de' pastori secondo il cuor mio, e vi pasceranno colla scienza, e colla dottrina.
16 Then, when you have increased and grown numerous in the country, Yahweh declares, no one wilever again say: The ark of the covenant of Yahweh! It will not enter their minds, they wil not remember it or missit, nor wil another one be made.	16 E quando sarete moltiplicati, e cresciuti sopra la terra in que' giorni (dice il Signore) non diranno più: L'arca del Testamento del Signore: né si penserà più a lei, nè di lei avrassi memoria, ne ella sarà visitata, né più si farà.
17 When that time comes, Jerusalem will be cal ed: The Throne of Yahweh, and al the nations willconverge on her, on Yahweh's name, on Jerusalem, and will no longer fol ow their own stubborn and wickedinclinations.	17 In quel tempo daranno a Gerusalemme il nome di Trono del Signore, e ei raduneranno presso di lei le genti tutte nel nome del Signore in Gerusalemme, e non anderanno dietro agli errori del pessimo loro cuore.
18 "When those days come, the House of Judah wil join the House of Israel; together they will come fromthe land of the north to the country I gave your ancestors as their heritage."	18 In quel tempo la famiglia di Giuda si riunirà alla famiglia d'Israele, e verranno insieme dalla terra di settentrione nella terra, ch'io diedi a' padri vostri.
19 'And I was thinking: How am I to rank you as my children? I shal give you a country of delights, thefairest heritage of al the nations! I thought: You wil cal me Father and wil never cease to fol ow me.	19 Ma io ho detto: Quanti darò a te figliuoli? E ti darò una terra desiderabile, l'eredità illustre degli eserciti del le nazioni. E io ho detto: Tu mi chiamerai padre, e non cesserai di venir dietro a me.
20 But like a woman betraying her lover, House of Israel, you have betrayed me,' Yahweh declares.	20 Ma come una donna, che sprezza colui, che la ama, così la casa d'Israele ha disprezzato me, dice il Signore.
21 A noise is heard on the bare heights: the weeping and entreaty of the Israelites, for they have gonewildly astray, have forgotten Yahweh their God.	21 Si è udito clamore per le strade, gemiti, e urla de' figliuoli d'Israele, perchè hanno renduta malvagia la loro vita, si sono scordati del Signore Dio loro.
22 'Come back, disloyal sons, I want to cure your disloyalty.' 'We are here, we are coming to you, for youare Yahweh our God.	22 Convertitevi figliuoli apostati, e io guarirò il male delle vostre ribellioni. Ecco, che noi venghiamo a te: imperocché tu se' il Signore Dio nostro.
23 The hil s are a delusion after al , so is the tumult of the mountains. Yahweh our God is, after al , thesaving of Israel.	23 Veramente erano menzogna i colli, e i tanti monti: veramente la salute d'Israele è stata nel Signore Dio nostro.
24 Shame has devoured what our ancestors worked for ever since we were young, their flocks and herds,their sons and their daughters.	24 Fin dalla nostra adolescenza la confusione divorò le fatiche de' padri nostri, le loro gregge, e i loro armenti, e i figliuoli loro, e le loro figlie.
25 Let us lie down in our shame, let our confusion cover us, for we have sinned against Yahweh our God,we and our ancestors, from our youth until today, and have not listened to the voice of Yahweh our God.'	25 Noi dormiremo nella nostra confusione, e sarem ricoperti dalla nostra ignominia; perchè abbiamo peccato contro il Signore Dio nostro noi, e i padri nostri, dalla adolescenza nostra fino a questo giorno: e non ascoltammo la voce del Signore Dio nostro.
