Sirach 42

NEW JERUSALEM	KÁLDI-NEOVULGÁTA
1 The fol owing things you should not be ashamed of, and do not sin from fear of what others think:	1 Restelld továbbadni a hallott szót, és feltárni a titkos beszédet, akkor megvan benned a helyes szégyenérzés, és tetszésre találsz minden ember előtt. De kicsit se szégyelld a következőket, és senki kedvéért ne vétkezzél:
2 of the Law of the Most High or of the covenant, of a verdict that acquits the godless,	2 a Magasságbeli törvényét és rendelkezését, az igazságosságot, hogy felmentsd a gonoszt,
3 of keeping accounts with a travelling companion, of settling property on your friends,	3 az elszámolást társakkal és utasokkal, az osztozkodást barátaiddal az örökségen,
4 of being accurate over scales and weights, of making small and large profits,	4 a pontosságot mérlegben és súlyban, a keresetet, legyen az sok vagy kevés,
5 of gaining from commercial transactions, of disciplining your children strictly, of lashing a wicked slavetill you draw blood.	5 a hasznot adásnál-vevésnél, a gyermekek gyakori fenyítését, s a rossz rabszolga hátának véresre verését.
6 With an interfering wife, it is as wel to use your seal, and where there are many hands, lock things up.	6 Hitvány asszony mellett helyén való a pecsét,
7 Whatever stores you issue, do it by number and weight, spendings and takings, put everything inwriting.	7 és ahol sok a kéz, tarts mindent zár alatt. Amit átadsz, számláld és mérd meg, jegyezz fel minden kiadást és bevételt!
8 Do not be ashamed to correct a stupid person or a fool, or an old dotard who bickers with youngpeople. Then you wil show yourself real y educated and win the approval of everyone.	8 Ne restelld rendreutasítani a balgát és az ostobát, az öreget, akit ifjak is elítélnek, akkor jó nevelésű leszel mindenben, és elismerést aratsz minden élő szemében!
9 Unknown to her, a daughter keeps her father awake, the worry she gives him drives away his sleep: inher youth, in case she never marries, married, in case she should be disliked,	9 Olyan kincs a leány, amely anyjának álmatlanságot okoz, és elűzi az álmát a miatta való aggodalom, hogy lánysorsban meg ne öregedjék, ha pedig férjnél van, meg ne gyűlöltesse magát;
10 as a virgin, in case she should be defiled and found with child in her father's house, having a husband,in case she goes astray, married, in case she should be sterile!	10 hogy meg ne rontsák szüzességében, és teherbe ne essen az apai házban; hogy félre ne lépjen férjes állapotában, és magtalan se maradjon.
11 Your daughter is headstrong? Keep a sharp look-out that she does not make you the laughing-stock ofyour enemies, the talk of the town, the object of common gossip, and put you to public shame.	11 A könnyelmű leányt őrizd gondosan, hogy szégyenbe ne hozzon az ellenségek előtt a város megszólása és a nép szóbeszéde miatt, és gyalázatodra ne legyen a nép sokasága előtt.
12 Do not stare at any man for his good looks, do not sit down with women;	12 Ne nézd senkinek szépségét, és ne időzz asszonyok között,
13 for moth comes out of clothes, and woman's spite out of woman.	13 mert a ruhából jön elő a moly, s az asszonyból a férfi rosszasága.
14 Better a man's spite than a woman's kindness: women give rise to shame and reproach.	14 Jobb a férfi keménysége az asszony kedvességénél, az ocsmány asszony pedig gyalázattá válik.
15 Next, I shal remind you of the works of the Lord, and tel of what I have seen. By the words of the Lordhis works come into being and all creation obeys his wil .	15 Hadd emlékezzem meg az Úr műveiről, és hadd hirdessem azt, amit láttam! Az Úr szava által lettek az ő alkotásai.
16 The shining sun looks down on al things, and the work of the Lord is full of his glory.	16 Miként a tündöklő nap beragyogja a mindenséget, úgy telik be az Úr dicsőségével az ő alkotása.
17 The Lord has not granted the Holy Ones the power to tell of all his marvels which the Almighty Lordhas solidly constructed for the universe to stand firm in his glory.	17 Nemde az Úr a szentek által hirdeti minden csodatettét? A mindenható Úr erőt adott nekik, hogy megállhassanak dicsősége előtt!
18 He has fathomed both the abyss and the human heart and seen into their devious ways; for the MostHigh knows all there is to know and sees the signs of the times.	18 Kifürkészi a tenger mélységét és az emberek szívét, átlát az ő furfangjukon,
19 He declares what is past and what wil be, and reveals the trend of hidden things.	19 mert az Úr minden tudás birtokában van, és látja az idők jelét, tudtul adja a múltat és a jövendőt, és fölfedi a titkok leplét.
20 Not a thought escapes him, not a single word is hidden from him.	20 Egy gondolat sem kerüli el figyelmét, s egy szó sincs rejtve előtte.
21 He has embellished the magnificent works of his wisdom, he is from everlasting to everlasting, nothingcan be added to him, nothing taken away, he needs no one's advice.	21 Ékessé tette bölcsessége remekműveit, aki öröktől fogva örökké van. Nincs ahhoz sem hozzátenni,
22 How lovely, all his works, how dazzling to the eye!	22 sem attól elvenni való, és nem szorul ő senki tanácsára.
23 They all live and last for ever, and, whatever the circumstances, al obey.	23 Mily gyönyörű minden műve, pedig csak szikrányi az, amit látni lehet!
24 Al things go in pairs, by opposites, he has not made anything imperfect:	24 Mindezek élnek és örökké megmaradnak, és bármikor szükséges, mindegyik szót fogad neki,
25 one thing complements the excel ence of another. Who could ever grow tired of gazing at his glory?	25 mind különböznek, egyik a másiktól, és semmit sem alkotott, ami elégtelen lenne. Biztosította mindegyik jóságát, – ki győzne betelni dicsősége látásával?
