Sirach 41

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 O death, how bitter it is to remember you for someone peaceful y living with his possessions, forsomeone with no worries and everything going wel and who can still enjoy his food!	1 ¡Muerte, qué amargo es tu recuerdo para el que vive tranquilo en medio de sus bienes, para el hombre despreocupado, a quien todo le va bien y aún tiene vigor para disfrutar de la vida!
2 O death, your sentence is welcome to one in want, whose strength is failing, to one worn out with ageand a thousand worries, resentful and impatient!	2 ¡Muerte, tu sentencia es bienvenida para el hombre necesitado y sin fuerzas, gastado por los años y lleno de ansiedades, que se rebela y ha agotado su paciencia!
3 Do not dread death's sentence; remember those who came before you and those who wil come after.	3 No temas a tu sentencia de muerte, recuerda a los que te precedieron y te seguirán.
4 This is the sentence passed on al living creatures by the Lord, so why object to what seems good tothe Most High? Whether your life lasts ten or a hundred or a thousand years, its length wil not be held againstyou in Sheol.	4 Esta es la sentencia del Señor para todo ser viviente: ¿por qué oponerse a la voluntad del Altísimo? Aunque vivas diez, cien o mil años, en el Abismo no te echarán en cara lo que hayas vivido.
5 Hateful brats, such are the children of sinners, who foregather in the haunts of the godless.	5 Los hijos de los pecadores son gente abominable que frecuentan las casas de los impíos.
6 The inheritance of sinners' children is doomed to perish, their posterity wil endure lasting reproach.	6 La herencia de los hijos de los pecadores va a la ruina, con su descendencia se perpetúa su infamia.
7 A godless father wil be blamed by his children for the reproach he has brought on them.	7 Un padre impío se atrae los reproches de sus hijos, porque es a él a quien deben su infamia.
8 A bad outlook for you, godless people, who have forsaken the Law of God Most High.	8 ¡Ay de ustedes, hombres impíos, que han abandonado la Ley del Dios Altísimo!
9 When you were born, you were born to be accursed, and when you die, that curse wil be your portion.	9 Si ustedes nacen, nacen para la maldición, y si mueren, les tocará en suerte la maldición.
10 Al that comes from the earth returns to the earth, so too the wicked proceed from curse to destruction.	10 Todo lo que sale de la tierra, vuelve a la tierra: así pasan los impíos, de la maldición a la ruina.
11 Mourning concerns only the bodies of the dead, but the worthless name of sinners wil be blotted out.	11 Los hombres se lamentan porque perece su cuerpo. y en cuanto a los pecadores, hasta su mal nombre se borrará..
12 Be careful of your reputation, for it wil last you longer than a thousand great hoards of gold.	12 Cuida tu buen nombre, porque eso te quedará mucho más que mil tesoros de oro.
13 A good life lasts a certain number of days, but a good reputation lasts for ever.	13 Una vida feliz tiene sus días contados, pero el buen nombre permanece para siempre.
14 Keep my instructions and be at peace, my children. Wisdom hidden away and treasure undisplayed,what use is either of these?	14 Hijos míos, observen en paz mi enseñanza. Sabiduría escondida y tesoro invisible: ¿de qué sirven una cosa y la otra?
15 Better someone who hides his fol y than one who hides his wisdom.	15 Es preferible el hombre que disimula su necedad al que oculta su sabiduría.
16 Preserve a sense of shame in the fol owing matters, for not every kind of shame is right to harbour,nor is every situation correctly appraised by al .	16 Por lo tanto, sientan vergüenza de lo que les voy a indicar, porque no está bien avergonzarse por cualquier cosa ni toda vergüenza merece ser igualmente aprobada.
17 Be ashamed, before father and mother, of depraved behaviour, and before prince or potentate oftel ing lies;	17 Tengan vergüenza de la fornicación ante su padre y su madre, y de la mentira, ante un jefe y un poderoso;
18 of wrong-doing before judge or magistrate, and of impiety before the assembly of the people;	18 del delito ante un juez y un magistrado, y de la iniquidad ante la asamblea del pueblo;
19 of sharp practice before your companion and your friend, and of theft before the neighbourhood youlive in.	19 de la injusticia ante un compañero y un amigo, y del robo ante su vecindario;
20 Before the truth and covenant of God, be ashamed of leaning elbows on the table,	20 de violar un juramento y un pacto, y de apoyar los codos en la mesa;
21 of being ungracious when giving or receiving, of ignoring those who greet you,	21 de dar o recibir con desdén, y de no devolver el saludo;
22 of gazing at a loose woman, of repulsing your fellow-countryman,	22 de mirar a una prostituta, y de dar vuelta la cara a un pariente;
23 of misappropriating another's portion or gift, of paying court to another man's wife,	23 de quitar a otro su parte o el regalo que recibió, y de mirar a una mujer casada;
24 of making advances to his servant-girl -- do not go near her bed-	24 de tener intimidades con tu sirvienta, ¡no te acerques a su lecho!
25 of saying disagreeable things to friends -- do not fol ow up a gift with a taunt-	25 de decir palabras hirientes a tus amigos ¡lo que les des no se lo eches en cara!
26 of repeating everything you hear and of betraying confidences.	26 de repetir lo que has oído y de revelar los secretos.
27 Then you wil know what true shame is, and you wil find yourself in everyone's graces.	27 Entonces sentirás una auténtica vergüenza, y serás bien visto por todos los hombres.
