1 It was Wisdom who protected the first man to be fashioned, the father of the world, who had beencreated al alone, she it was who rescued him from his fal	1 Foi ela que guardou o primeiro homem formado por Deus, para ser o pai do gênero humano, quando foi criado só;
2 and gave him the strength to subjugate al things.	2 (foi ela também que) o tirou do seu pecado, e lhe deu poder para governar todas as coisas.
3 But when in his wrath a wicked man deserted her, he perished in his fratricidal fury.	3 Logo que desta (sabedoria) se afastou o Injusto, na sua ira, pereceu por seu furor fratricida.
4 When because of him the earth was drowned, it was Wisdom again who saved it, piloting the uprightman on valueless timber.	4 E quando, por causa dele, a água inundou a terra, a salvação veio ainda da sabedoria, conduzindo o justo num lenho desprezível.
5 Again, when, concurring in wickedness, the nations had been thrown into confusion, she singled outthe upright man, preserved him blameless before God and fortified him against pity for his child.	5 Também ela, quando as nações, conspirando à uma para praticar o mal, foram confundidas, reconheceu o justo e conservou-o irrepreensível diante de Deus, e manteve-o forte, apesar da ternura por seu filho.
6 She it was who, while the godless perished, saved the upright man as he fled from the fire rainingdown on the Five Cities,	6 Foi ela que salvou o justo (do perigo), no meio da ruína dos ímpios, quando ele fugia do fogo descido sobre a Pentápole.
7 in witness against whose evil ways a desolate land still smokes, where plants bear fruit that neverripens and where, monument to an unbelieving soul, there stands a pillar of salt.	7 Em testemunho da maldade (desses ímpios), permanece deserta a sua terra, que ainda fumega, e as árvores dão frutos que não amadurecem, e vê-se a estátua de sal, ainda de pé, memorial duma alma incrédula.
8 For, by ignoring the path of Wisdom, not only did they suffer the loss of not knowing the good, but theyleft the world a memorial to their fol y, so that their offences could not pass unnoticed.	8 Com efeito, afastando-se eles da sabedoria, não só foram impedidos de conhecer o bem, mas deixaram ainda aos viventes uma lembrança da sua loucura, para que não pudessem ser esquecidos os seus pecados.
9 But Wisdom delivered her servants from their ordeals.	9 Porém a sabedoria livrou de dores os que a servem.
10 The upright man, fleeing from the anger of his brother, was led by her along straight paths. Sheshowed him the kingdom of God and taught him the knowledge of holy things. She brought him success in hislabours and gave him ful return for all his efforts;	10 Foi ela que conduziu o justo por caminhos direitos quando fugia da ira do seu irmão, e lhe mostrou o reino de Deus, e lhe deu o conhecimento das coisas santas, e o enriqueceu nos trabalhos, e fez frutificar os seus esforços.
11 she stood by him against grasping and oppressive men and she made him rich.	11 Ela auxiliou-o contra avarentos opressores e fez-lhe adquirir riquezas.
12 She preserved him from his enemies and saved him from the traps they set for him. In an arduousstruggle she awarded him the prize, to teach him that piety is stronger than al .	12 Guardou-o dos inimigos, defendeu-o dos que lhe armavam ciladas, deu-lhe a vitória num rude combate, para lhe ensinar que a piedade é mais poderosa que tudo.
13 She did not forsake the upright man when he was sold, but snatched him away from sin;	13 Ela não desamparou o justo vendido, mas livrou-o do pecado, desceu com ele à prisão,
14 she accompanied him down into the pit, nor did she abandon him in his chains until she had broughthim the sceptre of a kingdom and authority over his despotic masters, thus exposing as liars those who hadtraduced him, and giving him honour everlasting.	14 e não o desamparou nas cadeias, até lhe depositar nas mãos o ceptro do reino, e o poder sobre os seus opressores, até declarar mentirosos os que o tinham difamado, e até lhe dar uma glória eterna.
15 It was Wisdom who delivered a holy people, a blameless race, from a nation of oppressors.	15 Foi ela que livrou o povo justo e a linhagem irrepreensível das nações opressoras.
16 She entered the soul of a servant of the Lord, and withstood fearsome kings with wonders and signs.	16 Entrou na alma dum servo de Deus (Moisés), e opôs-se, com prodígios e sinais, a reis formidáveis.
17 To the holy people she gave the wages of their labours; she guided them by a marvellous road,herself their shelter by day -- and their starlight through the night.	17 Ela deu aos justos o galardão dos seus trabalhos, conduziu-os por um caminho admirável, serviu-lhes de cobertura durante o dia, e de luz de astros durante a noite.
18 She brought them across the Red Sea, leading them through an immensity of water,	18 Conduziu-os através do mar Vermelho, fê-los passar pelo meio de muitas águas.
19 whereas she drowned their enemies, then spat them out from the depths of the abyss.	19 Sepultou no mar os seus inimigos, e depois lançou fora (os seus cadáveres) do profundo dos abismos.
20 So the upright despoiled the godless; Lord, they extol ed your holy name, and with one accordpraised your protecting hand;	20 Por isso os justos levaram os despojos dos ímpios, celebraram, Senhor, o teu santo nome, e, unânimemente, cantaram a tua mão protectora,
21 for Wisdom opened the mouths of the dumb and made eloquent the tongues of babes.	21 porque a sabedoria abriu a boca dos mudos, e tornou expeditas as línguas das crianças.
