Job 42

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 This was the answer Job gave to Yahweh:	1 Allora Giobbe rispose al Signore, e disse:
2 I know that you are al -powerful: what you conceive, you can perform.	2 « Riconosco che tu puoi tutto, che nessun pensiero t'è nascosto.
3 I was the man who misrepresented your intentions with my ignorant words. You have told me aboutgreat works that I cannot understand, about marvels which are beyond me, of which I know nothing.	3 Chi è colui che senza capir nulla scombuia i disegni? Sì, ho parlato da stolto, e di cose che oltremodo passano la mia intelligenza.
4 (Listen, please, and let me speak: I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me.)	4 Ascolta ed io parlerò, io t'interrogherò e tu rispondimi.
5 Before, I knew you only by hearsay but now, having seen you with my own eyes,	5 Io ti avevo sentito colle mie orecchie, ma ora il mio occhio ti vede.
6 I retract what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.	6 Per questo mi ritratto e fo penitenza in polvere e cenere ».
7 When Yahweh had finished saying this to Job, he said to Eliphaz of Teman, 'I burn with anger against you and your two friends, for not having spoken correctly about me as my servant Job has done.	7 Or dopo che il Signore ebbe detto a Giobbe queste parole, disse ad Elifaz di Teman: « Il mio furore divampa contro te e contro i tuoi due amici, perchè dinanzi a me non avete parlato con rettitudine come il mio servo Giobbe.
8 So now find seven bul ocks and seven rams, and take them back with you to my servant Job andmake a burnt offering for yourselves, while Job, my servant, offers prayers for you. I shal show him favour andshall not inflict my displeasure on you for not having spoken about me correctly, as my servant Job has done.'	8 Prendetevi dunque sette tori e sette montoni, andate dal mio servo Giobbe e offrite per voi un olocausto. Il mio servo Giobbe farà orazione per voi, e in grazia di lui non vi sarà imputata la vostra stoltezza di non aver parlato di me con rettitudine, come il mio servo Giobbe
9 Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath went away to do as Yahweh had ordered,and Yahweh listened to Job with favour.	9 Allora Elifaz di Teman, Baldad di Sue e Sofar di Naama andarono a fare come il Signore aveva loro ordinato, e il Signore si placò in grazia di Giobbe.
10 And Yahweh restored Job's condition, while Job was interceding for his friends. More than that,Yahweh gave him double what he had before.	10 Di più il Signore si lasciò commuovere dalla penitenza di Giobbe, mentre egli pregava per gli amici, e gli rese il doppio di tutto ciò che aveva posseduto.
11 And al his brothers and all his sisters and al his friends of former times came to see him. Over dinnerin his house, they showed their sympathy and comforted him for al the evils Yahweh had inflicted on him. Eachof them gave him a silver coin, and each a gold ring.	11 Allora vennero a trovarlo tutti i suoi fratelli, tutte le sue sorelle, tutti quelli che prima l'avevan conosciuto e mangiarono con lui nella sua casa, e scossero il capo sopra di lui, e lo consolarono di tutte le tribolazioni, che il Signore gli aveva mandate e gli diedero ciascuno una pecora e un orecchino d'oro.
12 Yahweh blessed Job's latter condition even more than his former one. He came to own fourteenthousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she-donkeys.	12 Il Signore benedisse gli ultimi anni di Giobbe più ancora che i primi. Ed egli ebbe quattordici mila pecore, e sei mila cammelli, e mille paia di buoi, e mille asine.
13 He had seven sons and three daughters;	13 Ebbe pure sette figli e tre figlie.
14 his first daughter he cal ed 'Turtledove', the second 'Cassia' and the third 'Mascara'.	14 Chiamò la prima Giorno, la seconda Cassia, la terza Corno di Antimonio.
15 Throughout the land there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gavethem inheritance rights like their brothers.	15 Non si trovavano su tutta la terra delle donne così belle come le figlie di Giobbe, e il loro padre assegnò ad esse l'eredità tra i loro fratelli.
16 After this, Job lived for another one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and his children'schildren to the fourth generation.	16 Dopo tutto ciò Giobbe visse cento quarantanni, e vide i suoi figli e i nipoti fino alla quarta generazione, e morì vecchio e carico di anni.
17 Then, old and ful of days, Job died.
