Job 42

1 This was the answer Job gave to Yahweh:	1 Ma a Giobbe rispose al Signore, e disse:
2 I know that you are al -powerful: what you conceive, you can perform.	2 Io so, che tu poi il tutto, e nissun tuo pensiero rimane indietro.
3 I was the man who misrepresented your intentions with my ignorant words. You have told me aboutgreat works that I cannot understand, about marvels which are beyond me, of which I know nothing.	3 Chi è costui, che privo di senno avviluppa i consigli (di Dio)? Io perciò ho parlato da stolto, e di cose che infinitamente sorpassano il mio sapere.
4 (Listen, please, and let me speak: I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me.)	4 Ascolta, ed io parlerò; io ti interrogherò, e tu rispondimi.
5 Before, I knew you only by hearsay but now, having seen you with my own eyes,	5 Io ti udii già colle mie orecchie; ora il mio occhio ti vede.
6 I retract what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.	6 Per questo io accuso me stesso, e fo penitenza nella polvere, e nella cenere.
7 When Yahweh had finished saying this to Job, he said to Eliphaz of Teman, 'I burn with anger against you and your two friends, for not having spoken correctly about me as my servant Job has done.	7 Or dopo che il Signore ebbe dette a Giobbe quelle parole, egli disse ad Eliphaz di Theman: Io sono altamente sdegnato contro di te, e contro i due tuoi amici, perocché non avete parlato con rettitudine dinanzi a me, come Giobbe mio servo.
8 So now find seven bul ocks and seven rams, and take them back with you to my servant Job andmake a burnt offering for yourselves, while Job, my servant, offers prayers for you. I shal show him favour andshall not inflict my displeasure on you for not having spoken about me correctly, as my servant Job has done.'	8 Prendetevi adunque sette tori, e sette arieti, e andate a trovar Giobbe mio servo, e offerite olocausto per voi; e Giobbe mio servo farà orazione per voi; e in grazia di lui non sarà imputata a voi la vostra stoltezza: perocché voi non avete parlato di me con rettitudine, come Giobbe mio servo.
9 Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath went away to do as Yahweh had ordered,and Yahweh listened to Job with favour.	9 Andarono adunque Eliphaz di Theman, e Baldad di Sueh, e Sophar di Naamath, e fecero quanto avea detto loro il Signore, e si placò il Signore in grazia di Giobbe.
10 And Yahweh restored Job's condition, while Job was interceding for his friends. More than that,Yahweh gave him double what he had before.	10 E oltre a ciò il Signore si mosse a compassione di Giobbe mentre ei pregava pe' suoi amici; e rendette il Signore a Giobbe il doppio di tutto quello, che egli avea posseduto per l'innanzi.
11 And al his brothers and all his sisters and al his friends of former times came to see him. Over dinnerin his house, they showed their sympathy and comforted him for al the evils Yahweh had inflicted on him. Eachof them gave him a silver coin, and each a gold ring.	11 E andarono a ritrovarlo tutti i suoi fratelli, e tutte le sue sorelle, e tutti quelli, che prima l'avean conosciuto, e mangiarono con lui nella sua casa, e scuotevano il capo sopra di lui, e lo consolavano di tutte le tribolazioni mandate a lui dal Signore, e ognuno di essi diede a lui una pecora, e un orecchino di oro.
12 Yahweh blessed Job's latter condition even more than his former one. He came to own fourteenthousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she-donkeys.	12 E il Signore benedisse Giobbe da ultimo più che da principio; ed egli ebbe quattordici mila pecore, e sei mila cammelli, e mille paia di bovi, e mille asine.
13 He had seven sons and three daughters;	13 Ed ebbe sette figliuoli, e tre figliuole.
14 his first daughter he cal ed 'Turtledove', the second 'Cassia' and the third 'Mascara'.	14 E alla prima pose nome Giorno, e alla seconda Cassia, e alla terza Corno di Antimonio.
15 Throughout the land there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gavethem inheritance rights like their brothers.	15 Non ebbe tutta la terra donne eguali in bellezza alle figliuole di Giobbe, e il padre loro le chiamò a parte dell'eredità insieme co' loro fratelli.
16 After this, Job lived for another one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and his children'schildren to the fourth generation.	16 Dopo queste cose visse Giobbe cento quarant'anni, e vide i suoi figliuoli, e i figliuoli de' suoi figliuoli fin alla quarta generazione, e morì in età, avanzata, e pieno di giorni.
17 Then, old and ful of days, Job died.
