Job 42

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 This was the answer Job gave to Yahweh:	1 Giobbe rispose al Signore dicendo:
2 I know that you are al -powerful: what you conceive, you can perform.	2 "Riconosco che puoi tutto, e nessun progetto ti è impossibile.
3 I was the man who misrepresented your intentions with my ignorant words. You have told me aboutgreat works that I cannot understand, about marvels which are beyond me, of which I know nothing.	3 Chi è colui che denigra la provvidenza senza nulla sapere? E' vero, senza nulla sapere, ho detto cose troppo superiori a me, che io non comprendo.
4 (Listen, please, and let me speak: I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me.)	4 Ascoltami, di grazia, e lasciami parlare, io ti interrogherò e tu mi istruirai.
5 Before, I knew you only by hearsay but now, having seen you with my own eyes,	5 Io ti conoscevo per sentito dire, ma ora i miei occhi ti hanno visto.
6 I retract what I have said, and repent in dust and ashes.	6 Perciò mi ricredo e mi pento sulla polvere e sulla cenere".
7 When Yahweh had finished saying this to Job, he said to Eliphaz of Teman, 'I burn with anger against you and your two friends, for not having spoken correctly about me as my servant Job has done.	7 Ora, dopo che il Signore ebbe rivolte queste parole a Giobbe, disse ad Elifaz il temanita: "La mia ira si è accesa contro di te e i tuoi due amici, perché non avete detto di me cose rette, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe.
8 So now find seven bul ocks and seven rams, and take them back with you to my servant Job andmake a burnt offering for yourselves, while Job, my servant, offers prayers for you. I shal show him favour andshall not inflict my displeasure on you for not having spoken about me correctly, as my servant Job has done.'	8 Ora prendete sette vitelli e sette montoni; andate dal mio servo Giobbe e offrite un olocausto per voi. Il mio servo Giobbe intercederà per voi, affinché per riguardo a lui io non punisca la vostra stoltezza, perché non avete parlato rettamente di me, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe".
9 Eliphaz of Teman, Bildad of Shuah and Zophar of Naamath went away to do as Yahweh had ordered,and Yahweh listened to Job with favour.	9 Andarono dunque, Elifaz il temanita, Bildad il suchita e Zofar il naamatita, e fecero come aveva ordinato loro il Signore. E il Signore ebbe riguardo di Giobbe.
10 And Yahweh restored Job's condition, while Job was interceding for his friends. More than that,Yahweh gave him double what he had before.	10 Quando Giobbe intercedette per i suoi compagni, il Signore cambiò la sua sorte e gli rese il doppio di quanto aveva posseduto.
11 And al his brothers and all his sisters and al his friends of former times came to see him. Over dinnerin his house, they showed their sympathy and comforted him for al the evils Yahweh had inflicted on him. Eachof them gave him a silver coin, and each a gold ring.	11 Tutti i suoi fratelli, le sue sorelle, i suoi conoscenti di prima vennero a visitarlo e mangiarono con lui nella sua casa. Lo commiserarono e lo consolarono di tutto il male che il Signore gli aveva inviato e gli regalarono ognuno un pezzo di argento e un anello d'oro.
12 Yahweh blessed Job's latter condition even more than his former one. He came to own fourteenthousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand she-donkeys.	12 Il Signore benedisse la nuova condizione di Giobbe più della prima. Possedette quattordicimila pecore e seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine.
13 He had seven sons and three daughters;	13 Ebbe pure sette figli e tre figlie.
14 his first daughter he cal ed 'Turtledove', the second 'Cassia' and the third 'Mascara'.	14 Alla prima diede il nome di Colomba, alla seconda quello di Cassia, alla terza Fiala di stibio.
15 Throughout the land there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job. And their father gavethem inheritance rights like their brothers.	15 In tutto il paese non c'erano donne così belle come le figlie di Giobbe; il loro padre le mise a parte dell'eredità insieme ai fratelli.
16 After this, Job lived for another one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and his children'schildren to the fourth generation.	16 Giobbe visse dopo tutto questo ancora centoquarant'anni e vide i suoi figli e i figli dei suoi figli per quattro generazioni.
17 Then, old and ful of days, Job died.	17 Giobbe morì vecchio e sazio d'anni.
