Exodus 23

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 'You will not spread false rumours. You wil not lend support to the wicked by giving untrue evidence.	1 "Tu ne colporteras pas de fausses rumeurs. Tu ne prêteras pas la main au méchant en témoignantinjustement.
2 You will not be led into wrong-doing by the majority nor, when giving evidence in a lawsuit, side withthe majority to pervert the course of justice;	2 Tu ne prendras pas le parti du plus grand nombre pour commettre le mal, ni ne témoigneras dans unprocès en suivant le plus grand nombre pour faire dévier le droit,
3 nor wil you show partiality to the poor in a lawsuit.	3 ni ne favoriseras le miséreux dans son procès.
4 'If you come on your enemy's ox or donkey straying, you wil take it back to him.	4 Si tu rencontres le boeuf ou l'âne de ton ennemi qui vague, tu dois le lui ramener.
5 If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fal en under its load, do not stand back; you must goand help him with it.	5 Si tu vois l'âne de celui qui te déteste tomber sous sa charge, cesse de te tenir à l'écart; avec lui tu luiviendras en aide.
6 'You will not cheat the poor among you of their rights at law.	6 Tu ne feras pas dévier le droit de ton pauvre dans son procès.
7 Keep clear of fraud. Do not cause the death of the innocent or upright, and do not acquit the guilty.	7 Tu te tiendras loin d'une cause mensongère. Ne fais pas périr l'innocent ni le juste et ne justifie pasle coupable.
8 You will accept no bribes, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and is the ruin of the cause of the upright.	8 Tu n'accepteras pas de présents, car le présent aveugle les gens clairvoyants et ruine les causes desjustes.
9 'You will not oppress the alien; you know how an alien feels, for you yourselves were once aliens inEgypt.	9 Tu n'opprimeras pas l'étranger. Vous savez ce qu'éprouve l'étranger, car vous-mêmes avez étéétrangers au pays d'Egypte.
10 'For six years you will sow your land and gather its produce,	10 "Pendant six ans tu ensemenceras la terre et tu en engrangeras le produit.
11 but in the seventh year you will let it lie fal ow and forgo al produce from it, so that those of yourpeople who are poor can take food from it and the wild animals eat what they have left. You wil do the samewith your vineyard and your olive grove.	11 Mais la septième année, tu la laisseras en jachère et tu en abandonneras le produit; les pauvres deton peuple le mangeront et les bêtes des champs mangeront ce qu'ils auront laissé. Tu feras de même pour tavigne et pour ton olivier.
12 'For six days you wil do your work, and on the seventh you will rest, so that your ox and your donkeymay rest and the child of your slave-girl have a breathing space, and the alien too.	12 Pendant six jours tu feras tes travaux, et le septième jour tu chômeras, afin que se repose ton boeufet ton âne et que reprennent souffle le fils de ta servante ainsi que l'étranger.
13 'Take notice of everything I have told you and do not mention the name of any other god: let noneever be heard from your lips.	13 Vous prendrez garde à tout ce que je vous ai dit et vous ne ferez pas mention du nom d'autresdieux: qu'on ne l'entende pas sortir de ta bouche.
14 'Three times a year you wil hold a festival in my honour.	14 "Tu me fêteras trois fois l'an.
15 You wil observe the feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you wil eat unleavened bread, as Ihave commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. Noone will appear before me empty-handed.	15 Tu observeras la fête des Azymes. Pendant sept jours tu mangeras des azymes, comme je te l'aiordonné, au temps fixé du mois d'Abib, car c'est en ce mois que tu es sorti d'Egypte. On ne se présentera pasdevant moi les mains vides.
16 You wil also observe the feast of Harvest, of the first-fruits of your labours in sowing the fields, andthe feast of Ingathering, at the end of the year, once you have brought the fruits of your labours in from the fields.	16 Tu observeras la fête de la Moisson, des prémices de tes travaux de semailles dans les champs, etla fête de la Récolte, en fin d'année, quand tu rentreras des champs le fruit de tes travaux.
17 Three times a year al your menfolk will appear before Lord Yahweh.	17 Trois fois l'an, toute ta population mâle se présentera devant le Seigneur Yahvé.
18 'You wil not offer the blood of my victim with leavened bread, nor wil the fat of my feast be kept tilthe following day.	18 Tu ne sacrifieras pas avec du pain levé le sang de ma victime, et la graisse de ma fête ne sera pasgardée jusqu'au lendemain.
19 'You wil bring the best of the first-fruits of your soil to the house of Yahweh your God. 'You wil notboil a kid in its mother's milk.	19 Tu apporteras à la maison de Yahvé ton Dieu le meilleur des prémices de ton terroir. Tu ne feraspas cuire un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère.
20 'Look, I am sending an angel to precede you, to guard you as you go and bring you to the place that Ihave prepared.	20 "Voici que je vais envoyer un ange devant toi, pour qu'il veille sur toi en chemin et te mène au lieuque je t'ai fixé.
21 Revere him and obey what he says. Do not defy him: he wil not forgive any wrong-doing on yourpart, for my name is in him.	21 Révère-le et écoute sa voix, ne lui sois pas rebelle, il ne pardonnerait pas vos transgressions carmon Nom est en lui.
22 If, however, you obey what he says and do whatever I order, I shal be an enemy to your enemiesand a foe to your foes.	22 Mais si tu écoutes bien sa voix et fais ce que je dis, je serai l'ennemi de tes ennemis et l'adversairede tes adversaires.
23 My angel wil precede you and lead you to the home of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, theCanaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, whom I shal exterminate.	23 Mon ange ira devant toi et te mènera chez les Amorites, les Hittites, les Perizzites, les Cananéens,les Hivvites, les Jébuséens, et je les exterminerai.
24 You wil not bow down to their gods or worship them or observe their rites, but throw them down andsmash their cultic stones.	24 Tu ne te prosterneras pas devant leurs dieux ni ne les serviras; tu ne feras pas ce qu'ils font, mais tudétruiras leurs dieux et tu briseras leurs stèles.
25 You wil worship Yahweh your God, and then I shal bless your food and water, and keep you free ofsickness.	25 Vous servirez Yahvé votre Dieu, alors je bénirai ton pain et ton eau et je détournerai de toi lamaladie.
26 In your country no woman will miscarry, none be sterile, and I shall give you your ful term of life.	26 Nulle femme dans ton pays n'avortera ou ne sera stérile et je laisserai s'achever le nombre de tesjours.
27 'I shal send terror of myself ahead of you; I shal throw al the peoples you encounter into confusion,and make al your enemies take to their heels.	27 Je sèmerai devant toi ma terreur, je jetterai la confusion chez tous les peuples où tu pénétreras, et jeferai détaler tous tes ennemis.
28 I shal send hornets ahead of you to drive Hivite, Canaanite and Hittite out before you.	28 J'enverrai devant toi des frelons qui chasseront les Hivvites, les Cananéens et les Hittites devanttoi.
29 I shal not drive them out ahead of you in a single year, or the land might become a desert where wildanimals would multiply to your cost.	29 Je ne les chasserai pas devant toi en une seule année, de peur que le pays ne devienne un désert oùse multiplieraient à tes dépens les bêtes des champs.
30 I shal drive them out little by little before you, until your numbers grow sufficient for you to takepossession of the land.	30 Je les chasserai devant toi peu à peu, jusqu'à ce que tu aies assez fructifié pour hériter du pays.
31 And your frontiers I shall fix from the Sea of Reeds to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desertto the River, for I shal put the inhabitants of the territory at your mercy, and you will drive them out before you.	31 Je fixerai tes frontières de la mer des Roseaux à la mer des Philistins, et du désert au Fleuve, car jelivrerai entre vos mains les habitants du pays, et tu les chasseras devant toi.
32 You wil make no pact with them or with their gods.	32 Tu ne feras pas alliance avec eux ni avec leurs dieux.
33 They may not stay in your country or they might make you sin against me, for you would serve theirgods, and that would be a snare for you!'	33 Ils n'habiteront pas ton pays, de peur qu'ils ne te fassent pécher contre moi, car tu servirais leursdieux et ce serait pour toi un piège."
