Tobit 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Tobias then replied to his father Tobit, 'Father, I shal do everything you have told me.	1 Allora Tobia rispose a suo padre Tobi: "Padre, farò tutto ciò che mi hai ordinato.
2 But how am I to recover the silver from him? He does not know me, nor I him. What token am I to givehim for him to believe me and hand the silver over to me? And besides, I do not know what roads to take for thisjourney into Media.'	2 Però come potrò ricuperare la somma da Gàbael, dato che né lui conosce me né io conosco lui? Quale segno potrò dargli, perché mi riconosca, mi creda e mi consegni il denaro? Inoltre non conosco il cammino da prendere per andare nella Media".
3 Then Tobit answered his son Tobias, 'Each of us set his signature to a note which I cut in two, so thateach could keep half of it. I took one piece, and put the other with the silver. To think it was twenty years ago Ileft this silver in his keeping! And now, my child, find a trustworthy travel ing companion -- we shall pay him forhis time until you arrive back -- and then go and col ect the silver from Gabael.'	3 Allora Tobi rispose al figlio suo Tobia: "Gàbael mi diede un suo documento autografo e anch'io gli ho consegnato un documento scritto, lo divisi in due parti e ritenemmo ognuno una parte lasciando la mia con il denaro. Sono ora vent'anni da quando ho depositato questa somma. E ora, figlio, cercati un uomo di fiducia che ti possa accompagnare. Lo pagheremo per tutto il tempo fino al tuo ritorno. Va', dunque, a riprendere questo denaro da Gàbael".
4 Tobias went out to look for a man who knew the way to go with him to Media. Outside he foundRaphael the angel standing facing him, though he did not guess he was an angel of God.	4 Tobia uscì in cerca di qualcuno pratico della strada che lo accompagnasse nella Media. All'uscita trovò l'angelo Raffaele, già pronto, non sospettando che fosse un angelo di Dio.
5 He said, 'Where do you come from, friend?' The angel replied, 'I am one of your brother Israelites; Ihave come to these parts to look for work.' Tobias asked, 'Do you know the road to Media?'	5 Gli disse: "Di dove sei, o giovane?". Rispose: "Sono un israelita, tuo compatriota, venuto qui a cercare lavoro". Rispose Tobia: "Conosci il cammino che porta nella Media?".
6 The other replied, 'Certainly I do, I have been there many times; I have knowledge and experience of althe ways. I have often been to Media and stayed with Gabael one of our kinsmen who lives at Rhages in Media.It usually takes two ful days to get from Ecbatana to Rhages; Rhages lies in the mountains, and Ecbatana is inthe middle of the plain.'	6 Raffaele gli disse: "Certo, sono stato là più volte e conosco molto bene tutte le strade. Mi sono recato spesso nella Media alloggiando presso Gàbael, nostro compatriota, che abita a Rage di Media. Ci sono due giorni interi di cammino da Ecbàtana a Rage; le due città infatti si trovano in montagna".
7 Tobias said, 'Wait for me, friend, while I go and tel my father; I need you to come with me; I shal payyou for your time.'	7 Tobia gli disse: "Aspettami qui, o giovane, finché vada ad informare mio padre. Ho bisogno che tu venga con me e ti darò il tuo salario".
8 The other replied, 'Good, I shal wait; but do not be long.'	8 L'altro rispose: "Bene, ti aspetto qui, però non tardare".
9 Tobias went in and told his father that he had found one of their brother Israelites. And the father said,'Fetch him in; I want to find out about his family and tribe. I must see if he is going to be a reliable companion foryou, my child.' So Tobias went out and cal ed him, 'Friend,' he said, 'my father wants you.'	9 Tobia andò a informare Tobi, suo padre, dicendogli: "Ecco, ho trovato un israelita, nostro compatriota". Tobi gli disse: "Chiamamelo, perché sappia da quale famiglia e da quale tribù provenga, se è persona fidata per accompagnarti, o figlio".
10 The angel came into the house; Tobit greeted him, and the other answered, wishing him happiness inplenty. Tobit replied, 'Can I ever be happy again? I am a blind man; I no longer see the light of heaven; I amsunk in darkness like the dead who see the light no more. I am a man buried alive; I hear people speak butcannot see them.' The angel said, 'Take comfort; before long God wil heal you. Take comfort.' Tobit said, 'Myson Tobias wishes to go to Media. Wil you join him as his guide? Brother, I wil pay you.' He replied, 'I am wil ingto go with him; I know al the ways; I have often been to Media, I have crossed all its plains and mountains, and Iknow al its roads.'	10 Tobia uscì a chiamarlo: "O giovane -- gli disse -- mio padre ti chiama". Quando l'angelo entrò, Tobi lo salutò per primo. L'angelo rispose: "Ti auguro felicità in abbondanza". Tobi rispose: "Che felicità posso io ancora avere? Sono un cieco e non posso vedere la luce del cielo. Vivo nell'oscurità, come i morti che non vedono più la luce. Vivente, abito tra i morti; sento la voce degli uomini, ma non li vedo". L'angelo gli disse: "Fatti coraggio, Dio non tarderà a guarirti, fatti coraggio!". Poi Tobi gli chiese: "Mio figlio Tobia ha l'intenzione di andare nella Media. Non potresti tu accompagnarlo facendogli da guida? Ti darò la tua ricompensa, o fratello!". Egli rispose: "Potrò accompagnarlo; conosco tutte le strade, mi sono recato spesso nella Media, ho attraversato tutte le sue pianure e i suoi monti e ne conosco tutte le strade".
11 Tobit said, 'Brother, what family and what tribe do you belong to? Wil you tel me, brother?'	11 Tobi gli domandò: "Fratello, di che famiglia e di che tribù sei? Dimmelo, fratello!".
12 'What does my tribe matter to you?' the angel said. Tobit said, 'I want to be quite sure whose son youare and what your name is.'	12 Raffaele rispose: "Che t'importa di conoscere la tribù?". Tobi disse: "Voglio conoscere esattamente, o fratello, di chi sei figlio e qual è il tuo nome".
13 The angel said, 'I am Azarias, son of the great Ananias, one of your kinsmen.'	13 Raffaele rispose: "Sono Azaria, figlio dell'illustre Anania, un tuo compatriota".
14 'Welcome and greetings, brother! Do not be offended at my wanting to know the name of your family; Ifind you are my kinsman of a good and honourable line. I know Ananias and Nathan, the two sons of the greatShemaiah. They used to go to Jerusalem with me; we have worshipped together there and they have neverstrayed from the right path. Your brothers are worthy men; you come of good stock; welcome.'	14 Allora Tobi gli disse: "Sii benvenuto e in buona salute, o fratello. Non avertene a male, o fratello, se ho voluto sapere esattamente di che famiglia sei. Ora risulta che tu sei un nostro parente e di famiglia molto eccellente. Conoscevo Anania e Natan, i due figli dell'illustre Semeia. Venivano con me a Gerusalemme per adorare insieme Dio e non hanno abbandonato il retto cammino. I tuoi sono brava gente; tu sei di buona radice; sii benvenuto!".
15 He went on, 'I engage you at a drachma a day, with the same expenses as my own son's. Completethe journey with my son	15 E aggiunse: "Ti do come salario una dracma al giorno e per ciò che concerne il tuo mantenimento, lo stesso che a mio figlio.
16 and I shall go beyond the agreed wage.' The angel replied, 'I shall complete the journey with him. Donot be afraid. On the journey outward al wil be wel ; on the journey back all wil be wel ; the road is safe.'	16 Accompagna dunque mio figlio e aggiungerò ancora qualcosa al tuo salario".
17 Tobit said, 'Blessings on you, brother!' Then he turned to his son. 'My child', he said, 'prepare what youneed for the journey, and set off with your brother. May God in heaven protect you abroad and bring you bothback to me safe and sound! May his angel go with you and protect you, my child!' Tobias left the house to setout and kissed his father and mother. Tobit said, 'A happy journey!'	17 L'angelo rispose: "Lo accompagnerò, non temere; sani e salvi partiremo e sani e salvi ritorneremo da te, perché il cammino è sicuro". Tobi gli disse: "Sii benedetto, o fratello!". Tobi chiamò il figlio e gli disse: "Prepara, o figlio, quanto occorre per il viaggio e parti con questo tuo parente. Dio che è nei cieli vi conservi incolumi fino là e vi riconduca sani e salvi presso di me. Il suo angelo vi accompagni con la sua protezione, o figlio!". Tobia uscì per mettersi in viaggio, baciò il padre e la madre, mentre Tobi gli diceva: "Buon viaggio!".
18 His mother burst into tears and said to Tobit, 'Why must you send my child away? Is he not the staff ofour hands, as he goes about before us?	18 Però sua madre si mise a piangere e disse a Tobi: "Perché hai fatto partire mio figlio? Non è lui il nostro appoggio, non lo abbiamo sempre avuto vicino?
19 Surely money is not the only thing that matters? Surely it is not as precious as our child?	19 Si faccia a meno di aggiungere denaro a denaro, non conti per nulla in paragone col nostro figlio!
20 The way of life God had already given us was good enough.'	20 Ci era sufficiente vivere con quello che Dio ci dava".
21 He said, 'Do not think such thoughts. Going away and coming back, all wil be wel with our child. Youwil see for yourself when he comes back safe and sound! Do not think such thoughts; do not worry on theiraccount, my sister.	21 Ma Tobi le disse: "Non stare in pensiero; nostro figlio viaggerà sano e salvo e ritornerà sano e salvo da noi. Con i tuoi occhi vedrai il giorno in cui ritornerà da te sano e salvo.
22 A good angel wil go with him; he will have a good journey and come back to us wel and happy.'	22 Non stare in pensiero, non temere per essi, o sorella; un angelo buono lo accompagnerà, il suo viaggio riuscirà bene e ritornerà sano e salvo".
	23 Essa allora cessò di piangere.
