Tobit 5

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Tobias then replied to his father Tobit, 'Father, I shal do everything you have told me.	1 Alors Tobie répondit à son père Tobit: "Je ferai, père, tout ce que tu m'as commandé.
2 But how am I to recover the silver from him? He does not know me, nor I him. What token am I to givehim for him to believe me and hand the silver over to me? And besides, I do not know what roads to take for thisjourney into Media.'	2 Seulement, comment faire pour lui reprendre ce dépôt? Lui ne me connaît pas, et moi, je ne le connaispas non plus. Quel signe de reconnaissance vais-je lui donner, pour qu'il me croie et qu'il me remette l'argent?De plus, je ne sais pas les routes à prendre pour ce voyage en Médie."
3 Then Tobit answered his son Tobias, 'Each of us set his signature to a note which I cut in two, so thateach could keep half of it. I took one piece, and put the other with the silver. To think it was twenty years ago Ileft this silver in his keeping! And now, my child, find a trustworthy travel ing companion -- we shall pay him forhis time until you arrive back -- and then go and col ect the silver from Gabael.'	3 Alors Tobit répondit à son fils Tobie: "Nous avons échangé nos signatures sur un billet, et je l'aicoupé en deux pour que nous en ayons chacun la moitié. J'ai pris l'une, et j'ai mis l'autre avec l'argent. Dire quecela fait vingt ans que j'ai mis cet argent en dépôt! Maintenant, mon enfant, cherche-toi quelqu'un de sérieuxpour compagnon de voyage, il sera à nos frais jusqu'à ton retour; et puis va toucher cet argent chez Gabaël."
4 Tobias went out to look for a man who knew the way to go with him to Media. Outside he foundRaphael the angel standing facing him, though he did not guess he was an angel of God.	4 Tobie sortit, en quête d'un bon guide capable de venir avec lui en Médie. Dehors, il trouva Raphaël,l'ange, debout face à lui, sans se douter que c'était un ange de Dieu.
5 He said, 'Where do you come from, friend?' The angel replied, 'I am one of your brother Israelites; Ihave come to these parts to look for work.' Tobias asked, 'Do you know the road to Media?'	5 Il lui dit: "D'où es-tu, mon ami?" L'ange répondit: "Je suis l'un des Israélites tes frères, je suis venuchercher du travail par là." Tobie lui dit: "Sais-tu la route pour aller en Médie?"
6 The other replied, 'Certainly I do, I have been there many times; I have knowledge and experience of althe ways. I have often been to Media and stayed with Gabael one of our kinsmen who lives at Rhages in Media.It usually takes two ful days to get from Ecbatana to Rhages; Rhages lies in the mountains, and Ecbatana is inthe middle of the plain.'	6 L'autre répondit: "Bien sûr! J'y ai été plusieurs fois, je connais tous les chemins par coeur. Je suis alléfréquemment en Médie, j'ai été reçu chez Gabaël, l'un de nos frères qui habites à Rhagès de Médie. Il faut biendeux jours de marche normale, d'Ecbatane à Rhagès; Rhagès est situé dans la montagne, et Ecbatane est aumilieu de la plaine."
7 Tobias said, 'Wait for me, friend, while I go and tel my father; I need you to come with me; I shal payyou for your time.'	7 Tobie lui dit: "Attends-moi, mon ami, que j'aille prévenir mon père: j'ai besoin que tu viennes avecmoi, je te paierai tes journées."
8 The other replied, 'Good, I shal wait; but do not be long.'	8 L'autre répondit: "Bien, j'attends. Seulement ne sois pas long."
9 Tobias went in and told his father that he had found one of their brother Israelites. And the father said,'Fetch him in; I want to find out about his family and tribe. I must see if he is going to be a reliable companion foryou, my child.' So Tobias went out and cal ed him, 'Friend,' he said, 'my father wants you.'	9 Tobie alla prévenir son père qu'il avait trouvé quelqu'un de leurs frères israélites. Et le père dit:"Présente-le moi, que je m'informe de sa famille et de sa tribu. Il faut voir si l'on peut compter sur lui pourt'accompagner, mon enfant." Tobie sortit donc l'appeler: "Mon ami, dit-il, mon père te demande."
10 The angel came into the house; Tobit greeted him, and the other answered, wishing him happiness inplenty. Tobit replied, 'Can I ever be happy again? I am a blind man; I no longer see the light of heaven; I amsunk in darkness like the dead who see the light no more. I am a man buried alive; I hear people speak butcannot see them.' The angel said, 'Take comfort; before long God wil heal you. Take comfort.' Tobit said, 'Myson Tobias wishes to go to Media. Wil you join him as his guide? Brother, I wil pay you.' He replied, 'I am wil ingto go with him; I know al the ways; I have often been to Media, I have crossed all its plains and mountains, and Iknow al its roads.'	10 L'ange entra dans la maison. Tobit salua le premier, et l'autre lui répondit par des souhaits debonheur. Tobit reprit: "Puis-je encore avoir du bonheur? Je suis un aveugle, je ne vois plus l'éclat du ciel, je suisplongé dans l'obscurité, comme les morts qui ne contemplent plus la lumière. Je suis un enterré vivant, j'entendsla voix des gens sans les voir." L'ange lui dit: "Aie confiance, Dieu ne tardera pas à te guérir. Aie confiance!"Tobit lui dit: "Mon fils Tobie désire aller en Médie. Veux-tu te joindre à lui comme guide? Frère, je te paierai."Il répondit: "Je veux bien l'accompagner, je sais tous les chemins, je suis souvent allé en Médie, j'en ai traversétoutes les plaines et les montagnes, et j'en connais toutes les pistes."
11 Tobit said, 'Brother, what family and what tribe do you belong to? Wil you tel me, brother?'	11 Tobit dit: "Frère, de quelle famille et de quelle tribu es-tu? Veux-tu me l'indiquer, frère" --
12 'What does my tribe matter to you?' the angel said. Tobit said, 'I want to be quite sure whose son youare and what your name is.'	12 "Que peut te faire ma tribu" -- "Je veux savoir pour de bon de qui tu es fils et quel est ton nom" --
13 The angel said, 'I am Azarias, son of the great Ananias, one of your kinsmen.'	13 "Je suis Azarias, fils d'Ananias le grand, l'un de tes frères" --
14 'Welcome and greetings, brother! Do not be offended at my wanting to know the name of your family; Ifind you are my kinsman of a good and honourable line. I know Ananias and Nathan, the two sons of the greatShemaiah. They used to go to Jerusalem with me; we have worshipped together there and they have neverstrayed from the right path. Your brothers are worthy men; you come of good stock; welcome.'	14 "Sois le bienvenu, salut, frère! Ne te froisse pas si j'ai désiré connaître ta vraie famille: il se trouveque tu es mon parent, de belle et bonne lignée. Je connais Ananias et Nathân, les deux fils de Séméias le grand.Ils venaient avec moi à Jérusalem, nous y avons adoré ensemble, et ils n'ont pas quitté la bonne route. Tes frèressont des hommes de bien, tu es de bonne souche: sois le bienvenu!"
15 He went on, 'I engage you at a drachma a day, with the same expenses as my own son's. Completethe journey with my son	15 Il poursuivit: "Je t'engage pour une drachme par jour, avec ton entretien, comme pour mon fils.Voyage donc avec mon fils,
16 and I shall go beyond the agreed wage.' The angel replied, 'I shall complete the journey with him. Donot be afraid. On the journey outward al wil be wel ; on the journey back all wil be wel ; the road is safe.'	16 et je dépasserai le prix convenu." L'ange répondit: "Je ferai le voyage avec lui. Ne crains rien. Notredépart se passera bien, et notre retour aussi, parce que la route est sûre."
17 Tobit said, 'Blessings on you, brother!' Then he turned to his son. 'My child', he said, 'prepare what youneed for the journey, and set off with your brother. May God in heaven protect you abroad and bring you bothback to me safe and sound! May his angel go with you and protect you, my child!' Tobias left the house to setout and kissed his father and mother. Tobit said, 'A happy journey!'	17 Tobit lui dit: "Sois béni, frère!" Puis il s'adressa à son fils: "Mon enfant, dit-il, prépare ce qu'il te fautpour le voyage, et pars avec ton frère. Que le Dieu qui est dans les cieux vous protège là-bas, et qu'il vousramène sains et saufs auprès de moi! Que son ange vous accompagne de sa protection, mon enfant!" Tobie sortitpour se mettre en route, et il embrassa son père et sa mère. Tobit lui dit: "Bon voyage!"
18 His mother burst into tears and said to Tobit, 'Why must you send my child away? Is he not the staff ofour hands, as he goes about before us?	18 Sa mère pleura, et elle dit à Tobit: "Pourquoi as-tu décidé le départ de mon enfant? N'est-ce pas lui lebâton de notre main, lui qui va et vient devant nous?
19 Surely money is not the only thing that matters? Surely it is not as precious as our child?	19 J'espère que l'argent ne passe pas avant tout, mais qu'il ne compte pas à côté de notre enfant.
20 The way of life God had already given us was good enough.'	20 Le mode de vie que Dieu nous avait donné nous suffisait bien."
21 He said, 'Do not think such thoughts. Going away and coming back, all wil be wel with our child. Youwil see for yourself when he comes back safe and sound! Do not think such thoughts; do not worry on theiraccount, my sister.	21 Il lui dit: "Ne te fais pas des idées! Notre enfant ira bien en partant, il ira encore bien en rentrant à lamaison. Le jour où il te reviendra, tes yeux verront qu'il va toujours très bien. Ne te fais pas des idées, n'aie pasd'inquiétude pour eux, ma soeur.
22 A good angel wil go with him; he will have a good journey and come back to us wel and happy.'	22 Un bon ange l'accompagnera, il fera bon voyage, et il reviendra en bien bonne santé!"
