Tobit 5

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Tobias then replied to his father Tobit, 'Father, I shal do everything you have told me.	1 Entonces Tobías respondió a su padre Tobit: «Haré cuanto me has mandado, padre.
2 But how am I to recover the silver from him? He does not know me, nor I him. What token am I to givehim for him to believe me and hand the silver over to me? And besides, I do not know what roads to take for thisjourney into Media.'	2 Pero ¿cómo podré recuperar el depósito? Ni él me conoce a mí ni yo a él. ¿Qué señal debo darle para que me reconozca, me crea y me devuelva el dinero? Por otra parte, desconozco la ruta que conduce a Media».
3 Then Tobit answered his son Tobias, 'Each of us set his signature to a note which I cut in two, so thateach could keep half of it. I took one piece, and put the other with the silver. To think it was twenty years ago Ileft this silver in his keeping! And now, my child, find a trustworthy travel ing companion -- we shall pay him forhis time until you arrive back -- and then go and col ect the silver from Gabael.'	3 Tobit, entonces, respondió a su hijo Tobías: «El me dio un recibo y yo a él otro; lo partí en dos, tomé una parte y dejé la otra con el dinero. ¡Ya va para veinte años que deposité esta suma! Ahora, hijo, busca un hombre de confianza que vaya contigo, y le tomaremos a sueldo hasta tu vuelta, y vete a recuperar esta plata».
4 Tobias went out to look for a man who knew the way to go with him to Media. Outside he foundRaphael the angel standing facing him, though he did not guess he was an angel of God.	4 Salió Tobías a buscar un hombre que conociera la ruta y fuera con él a Media. En saliendo, encontró a Rafael, el ángel, parado ante él; pero no sabía que era un ángel de Dios.
5 He said, 'Where do you come from, friend?' The angel replied, 'I am one of your brother Israelites; Ihave come to these parts to look for work.' Tobias asked, 'Do you know the road to Media?'	5 Díjole, pues: «¿De dónde eres, joven?» Le respondió: «De los israelitas, tus hermanos y ando en busca de trabajo». Díjole Tobías: «¿Conoces la ruta de Media?»
6 The other replied, 'Certainly I do, I have been there many times; I have knowledge and experience of althe ways. I have often been to Media and stayed with Gabael one of our kinsmen who lives at Rhages in Media.It usually takes two ful days to get from Ecbatana to Rhages; Rhages lies in the mountains, and Ecbatana is inthe middle of the plain.'	6 Respondió: «Sí; he estado allá muchas veces y conozco al detalle todos los caminos. He ido a Media con frecuencia y he sido huésped de Gabael, nuestro hermano, el que vive en Ragués de Media. Hay dos jornadas de camino entre Ecbátana y Ragués, pues Ragués está en la montaña y Ecbátana en el llano».
7 Tobias said, 'Wait for me, friend, while I go and tel my father; I need you to come with me; I shal payyou for your time.'	7 Tobías le dijo: «Espérame, joven, que voy a decírselo a mi padre, porque necesito que vengas conmigo; y yo te pagaré tu sueldo».
8 The other replied, 'Good, I shal wait; but do not be long.'	8 El le dijo: «Te espero, pero no tardes».
9 Tobias went in and told his father that he had found one of their brother Israelites. And the father said,'Fetch him in; I want to find out about his family and tribe. I must see if he is going to be a reliable companion foryou, my child.' So Tobias went out and cal ed him, 'Friend,' he said, 'my father wants you.'	9 Fuese Tobías a informar a su padre y le dijo: «Ya he encontrado un hombre, que es israelita, hermano nuestro». Contestóle Tobit: «Llámale, para que yo sepa a qué familia y tribu pertenece, y si es digno de confianza para que te acompañe, hijo». Salió Tobías, le llamó y le dijo: «Joven, mi padre te llama».
10 The angel came into the house; Tobit greeted him, and the other answered, wishing him happiness inplenty. Tobit replied, 'Can I ever be happy again? I am a blind man; I no longer see the light of heaven; I amsunk in darkness like the dead who see the light no more. I am a man buried alive; I hear people speak butcannot see them.' The angel said, 'Take comfort; before long God wil heal you. Take comfort.' Tobit said, 'Myson Tobias wishes to go to Media. Wil you join him as his guide? Brother, I wil pay you.' He replied, 'I am wil ingto go with him; I know al the ways; I have often been to Media, I have crossed all its plains and mountains, and Iknow al its roads.'	10 Entró el ángel y Tobit se adelantó a saludarle; el ángel contestó: «Que disfrutes de mucha alegría». Replicó Tobit: «¿Qué alegría puedo disfrutar ya? Estoy ciego y no puedo ver la luz del cielo; yazgo en tinieblas como los muertos, que no contemplan la luz; vivo como un muerto; oigo la voz de los hombres, pero no los veo». Le dijo el ángel: «Ten confianza, que Dios te curará dentro de poco. Ten confianza». Tobit le dijo: «Mi hijo Tobías quiere ir a Media. ¿Puedes ir con él y servirle de guía? Yo te daría tu salario, hermano». El respondió: «Puedo ir con él, pues conozco al detalle todos los caminos y he viajado a Media con frecuencia; he recorrido todos sus llanos y sus montes y tengo conocimiento de todas sus rutas».
11 Tobit said, 'Brother, what family and what tribe do you belong to? Wil you tel me, brother?'	11 Tobit le dijo: «¿Querrías decirme, hermano, a qué familia y tribu perteneces?
12 'What does my tribe matter to you?' the angel said. Tobit said, 'I want to be quite sure whose son youare and what your name is.'	12 Le respondió el ángel: «¿Qué puede importar mi tribu?» Tobit insitió: «Me gustaría, hermano, saber con seguridad tu tribu y nombre».
13 The angel said, 'I am Azarias, son of the great Ananias, one of your kinsmen.'	13 Respondió el ángel: «Yo soy Azarías, hijo del gran Ananías, uno de tus hermanos».
14 'Welcome and greetings, brother! Do not be offended at my wanting to know the name of your family; Ifind you are my kinsman of a good and honourable line. I know Ananias and Nathan, the two sons of the greatShemaiah. They used to go to Jerusalem with me; we have worshipped together there and they have neverstrayed from the right path. Your brothers are worthy men; you come of good stock; welcome.'	14 Le dijo Tobit: «Seas venido sano y salvo, hermano; y no lleves a mal, hermano, mi deseo de conocer con certeza tu nombre y familia. Resulta ahora que eres de mi parentela y que perteneces a un linaje bueno y honrado. He conocido a Ananías y a Natán, los dos hijos del gran Semeías; ellos iban conmigo a Jerusalén y conmigo adoraban allí, sin desviarse del buen camino. Tus hermanos son hombres de bien; de buen linaje procedes. ¡El gozo sea contigo!»
15 He went on, 'I engage you at a drachma a day, with the same expenses as my own son's. Completethe journey with my son	15 Y añadió: «Te daré como sueldo una dracma por día, y en lo demás tendrás el mismo trato que mi hijo.
16 and I shall go beyond the agreed wage.' The angel replied, 'I shall complete the journey with him. Donot be afraid. On the journey outward al wil be wel ; on the journey back all wil be wel ; the road is safe.'	16 Vete con mi hijo y después te añadiré un sobresueldo».
17 Tobit said, 'Blessings on you, brother!' Then he turned to his son. 'My child', he said, 'prepare what youneed for the journey, and set off with your brother. May God in heaven protect you abroad and bring you bothback to me safe and sound! May his angel go with you and protect you, my child!' Tobias left the house to setout and kissed his father and mother. Tobit said, 'A happy journey!'	17 Le dijo el ángel: «Partiré con él y no abrigues temor; sanos partimos y sanos regresaremos a ti, porque la ruta es segura». Le respondió Tobit: «Bendito seas, hermano». Y llamando a su hijo le anunció: «Hijo, prepara las cosas para el camino y emprende la marcha con tu hermano; que el Dios que está en los cielos os proteja allí y os devuelva a mí sanos; y su ángel os acompañe con su protección, hijo». Tobías se dispuso a emprender la marcha y besó a su padre y a su madre. Tobit le dijo: «¡Que tengáis buen viaje!»
18 His mother burst into tears and said to Tobit, 'Why must you send my child away? Is he not the staff ofour hands, as he goes about before us?	18 Pero su madre lloraba y dijo a Tobit: «¿Por qué has hecho que se vaya mi hijo? ¿No era él el bastón de nuestra mano, que siempre va y viene con nosotros?
19 Surely money is not the only thing that matters? Surely it is not as precious as our child?	19 ¡Que no sea el dinero lo primero de todo! Que no se convierta en el precio de nuestro hijo!
20 The way of life God had already given us was good enough.'	20 ¡Con lo que el Señor nos daba para vivir teníamos bastante!»
21 He said, 'Do not think such thoughts. Going away and coming back, all wil be wel with our child. Youwil see for yourself when he comes back safe and sound! Do not think such thoughts; do not worry on theiraccount, my sister.	21 El le dijo: «No pienses tal cosa; sano ha partido nuestro hijo y sano volverá a nosotros; con tus propios ojos lo verás el día que regrese sano junto a ti.
22 A good angel wil go with him; he will have a good journey and come back to us wel and happy.'	22 No pienses tal cosa ni te atormentes por ellos, hermana; porque un ángel bueno le acompañará, le dará un viaje fácil y le devolverá sano».
