Tobit 5

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Tobias then replied to his father Tobit, 'Father, I shal do everything you have told me.	1 Entonces Tobías respondió a su padre Tobit: «Yo haré, padre, todo lo que me has ordenado.
2 But how am I to recover the silver from him? He does not know me, nor I him. What token am I to givehim for him to believe me and hand the silver over to me? And besides, I do not know what roads to take for thisjourney into Media.'	2 Pero ¿cómo podré recuperar ese dinero que tiene Gabael? El no me conoce a mí, ni yo a él. ¿Qué señal le daré para que me reconozca, me crea y me entregue el dinero? Además, no sé qué camino hay que tomar para ir a Media».
3 Then Tobit answered his son Tobias, 'Each of us set his signature to a note which I cut in two, so thateach could keep half of it. I took one piece, and put the other with the silver. To think it was twenty years ago Ileft this silver in his keeping! And now, my child, find a trustworthy travel ing companion -- we shall pay him forhis time until you arrive back -- and then go and col ect the silver from Gabael.'	3 Tobit le dijo: «El me dio un recibo y yo le di otro; lo dividí en dos partes, cada uno tomó la suya y yo puse mi parte con el dinero. Ya hace veinte años que deposité esa suma. Ahora, hijo mío, busca una persona de confianza para que te acompañe; le pagaremos un sueldo hasta que vuelvas. Ve entonces a recuperar ese dinero».
4 Tobias went out to look for a man who knew the way to go with him to Media. Outside he foundRaphael the angel standing facing him, though he did not guess he was an angel of God.	4 Tobías salió a buscar un buen guía, que conociera el camino para ir con él a Media. Afuera encontró al ángel Rafael, que estaba de pie frente a él y, sin sospechar que era un ángel de Dios,
5 He said, 'Where do you come from, friend?' The angel replied, 'I am one of your brother Israelites; Ihave come to these parts to look for work.' Tobias asked, 'Do you know the road to Media?'	5 le preguntó: «¿De dónde eres, amigo?». El ángel le respondió: «Soy uno de tus hermanos israelitas, y he venido a buscar trabajo aquí». Tobías le dijo: «¿Conoces el camino para ir a Media?».
6 The other replied, 'Certainly I do, I have been there many times; I have knowledge and experience of althe ways. I have often been to Media and stayed with Gabael one of our kinsmen who lives at Rhages in Media.It usually takes two ful days to get from Ecbatana to Rhages; Rhages lies in the mountains, and Ecbatana is inthe middle of the plain.'	6 «¡Por supuesto!, le respondió el ángel. He estado allí muchas veces y conozco todos los caminos de memoria. He ido frecuentemente a Media y me he alojado en casa de Gabael, uno de nuestros hermanos, que vive en Ragués de Media. Hay dos días de camino desde Ecbátana hasta Ragués, porque Ragués está situada en la montaña y Ecbátana en medio de la llanura».
7 Tobias said, 'Wait for me, friend, while I go and tel my father; I need you to come with me; I shal payyou for your time.'	7 Tobías le dijo: «Espérame, amigo, mientras voy a avisar a mi padre, porque necesito que vengas conmigo. Yo te pagaré tu sueldo».
8 The other replied, 'Good, I shal wait; but do not be long.'	8 El ángel le respondió: «Te espero aquí, pero no tardes».
9 Tobias went in and told his father that he had found one of their brother Israelites. And the father said,'Fetch him in; I want to find out about his family and tribe. I must see if he is going to be a reliable companion foryou, my child.' So Tobias went out and cal ed him, 'Friend,' he said, 'my father wants you.'	9 Tobías entró a avisar a su padre que había encontrado a uno de sus hermanos israelitas. Y Tobit le dijo: Preséntamelo, para que yo sepa a qué familia y a qué tribu pertenece. Quiero saber si se puede confiar en él para que te acompañe». Tobías salió a llamarlo y le dijo: «Amigo, mi padre te llama».
10 The angel came into the house; Tobit greeted him, and the other answered, wishing him happiness inplenty. Tobit replied, 'Can I ever be happy again? I am a blind man; I no longer see the light of heaven; I amsunk in darkness like the dead who see the light no more. I am a man buried alive; I hear people speak butcannot see them.' The angel said, 'Take comfort; before long God wil heal you. Take comfort.' Tobit said, 'Myson Tobias wishes to go to Media. Wil you join him as his guide? Brother, I wil pay you.' He replied, 'I am wil ingto go with him; I know al the ways; I have often been to Media, I have crossed all its plains and mountains, and Iknow al its roads.'	10 El ángel entró en la casa, Tobit lo saludó primero y aquel le respondió: «Mis parabienes, hermano». Pero Tobit le dijo: «¿Qué alegría puedo tener? Estoy ciego, no veo más la luz del sol y me encuentro sumergido en la oscuridad, como los muertos que ya no contemplan la luz. Estoy enterrado en vida; oigo la voz de los hombres, pero no los veo». El ángel le dijo: «¡Animo! Dios te curará pronto». Tobit añadió: «Mi hijo Tobías desea ir a Media. ¿Podrías tú acompañarlo como guía? Yo te pagaré un sueldo, hermano». El ángel le respondió: «Estoy dispuesto a acompañarlo. Conozco todos los caminos; he ido varias veces a Media , he atravesado todas sus llanuras y conozco muy bien los senderos de sus montañas».
11 Tobit said, 'Brother, what family and what tribe do you belong to? Wil you tel me, brother?'	11 Tobit le preguntó: «¿Quieres decirme, hermano, de qué familia y de qué tribu eres?».
12 'What does my tribe matter to you?' the angel said. Tobit said, 'I want to be quite sure whose son youare and what your name is.'	12 «¿Qué importa mi tribu?», le dijo el ángel. Tobit insistió: «Quiero saber con seguridad de quién eres hijo y cómo te llamas».
13 The angel said, 'I am Azarias, son of the great Ananias, one of your kinsmen.'	13 El ángel le respondió: «Yo soy Azarías, hijo de Ananías el Grande, uno de tus hermanos».
14 'Welcome and greetings, brother! Do not be offended at my wanting to know the name of your family; Ifind you are my kinsman of a good and honourable line. I know Ananias and Nathan, the two sons of the greatShemaiah. They used to go to Jerusalem with me; we have worshipped together there and they have neverstrayed from the right path. Your brothers are worthy men; you come of good stock; welcome.'	14 Tobit le dijo: «¡Bienvenido, hermano , y Salud! No tomes a mal que haya querido conocer la verdad acerca de tu familia, Por lo visto, eres un hermano de respetable y noble origen. Conozco a Ananías y a Natán, los dos hijos de Semeías el Grande. Ellos me acompañaban a Jerusalén; allí adoraban junto conmigo, y nunca se apartaron del buen camino. Tus hermanos son hombres de bien y tú eres de buena estirpe. ¡Sé bienvenido!».
15 He went on, 'I engage you at a drachma a day, with the same expenses as my own son's. Completethe journey with my son	15 Luego siguió diciendo: «Te pagaré como sueldo una dracma diaria, y tendrás todo lo que necesite, lo mismo que mi hijo.
16 and I shall go beyond the agreed wage.' The angel replied, 'I shall complete the journey with him. Donot be afraid. On the journey outward al wil be wel ; on the journey back all wil be wel ; the road is safe.'	16 Acompáñalo, y yo te daré un sobresueldo». El ángel respondió: «Sí, iré con él, no tengas miedo. Volveremos tan bien como hemos salido, porque el camino es seguro».
17 Tobit said, 'Blessings on you, brother!' Then he turned to his son. 'My child', he said, 'prepare what youneed for the journey, and set off with your brother. May God in heaven protect you abroad and bring you bothback to me safe and sound! May his angel go with you and protect you, my child!' Tobias left the house to setout and kissed his father and mother. Tobit said, 'A happy journey!'	17 Tobit exclamó: «¡Bendito seas, hermano!». Después llamó a su hijo y le dijo: «Hijo mío, prepara lo necesario para el viaje y parte con tu hermano. El Dios que está en el cielo los proteja y los haga volver a mi lado sanos y salvos. ¡Que su ángel los acompañe con su protección, hijo mío!». Tobías salió para ponerse en camino, y abrazó a su padre y a su madre. Tobit le dijo: «¡Buen viaje!».
18 His mother burst into tears and said to Tobit, 'Why must you send my child away? Is he not the staff ofour hands, as he goes about before us?	18 Su madre se puso a llorar y dijo a Tobit: «¿Por qué has hecho partir a mi hijo? ¿Acaso no es el bastón de nuestra mano, el que guía nuestros pasos?
19 Surely money is not the only thing that matters? Surely it is not as precious as our child?	19 ¿Para qué acumular más dinero? No importa nada comparado con nuestro hijo.
20 The way of life God had already given us was good enough.'	20 Con lo que el Señor nos daba para vivir ya teníamos bastante».
21 He said, 'Do not think such thoughts. Going away and coming back, all wil be wel with our child. Youwil see for yourself when he comes back safe and sound! Do not think such thoughts; do not worry on theiraccount, my sister.	21 Tobit le respondió: «¡No pienses eso! Nuestro hijo se va muy bien y volverá junto a nosotros con toda felicidad; tus propios ojos verán el día en que regresará sano y salvo. No te preocupes ni temas por ellos, hermana.
22 A good angel wil go with him; he will have a good journey and come back to us wel and happy.'	22 Un ángel bueno lo acompañará, él hará un buen viaje y volverá sano». Y ella dejó de llorar.
