Tobit 12

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When the wedding feast was over, Tobit cal ed his son Tobias and said, 'My son, you ought to thinkabout paying the amount due to your fellow travel er; give him more than the figure agreed on.'	1 Terminate le feste nuziali, Tobi chiamò suo figlio Tobia e gli disse: "Figlio, pensa a dare la ricompensa al tuo compagno di viaggio aggiungendovi qualche cosa".
2 'Father,' he replied, 'how much am I to give him for his help? Even if I give him half the goods hebrought back with me, I shal not be the loser.	2 Tobia gli rispose: "Padre, quanto gli devo dare come ricompensa? Non ci perderei, anche se gli dessi la metà dei beni che egli ha portato con me.
3 He has brought me back safe and sound, he has cured my wife, he has brought the money back too,and now he has cured you as wel . How much am I to give him for al this?'	3 Mi ha ricondotto sano e salvo, mi ha guarito la moglie, è andato a prendere per me il denaro e ha guarito te. Quanto posso ancora dargli come ricompensa?".
4 Tobit said, 'He has richly earned half what he brought back'.	4 Tobi gli rispose: "Figlio, è giusto che egli prenda la metà di tutti i beni che ha riportati".
5 So Tobias cal ed his companion and said, 'Take half of what you brought back, in payment for al youhave done, and go in peace.'	5 Tobia chiamò l'angelo e gli disse: "Prendi come ricompensa la metà di tutto ciò che hai riportato e va' in pace!".
6 Then Raphael took them both aside and said, 'Bless God, utter his praise before al the living for thefavour he has shown you. Bless and extol his name. Proclaim before all people the deeds of God as theydeserve, and never tire of giving him thanks.	6 Allora Raffaele li chiamò ambedue in disparte e disse loro: "Benedite Dio e proclamate davanti a tutti i viventi i benefici che vi ha fatto, perché sia benedetto e celebrato il suo nome. Fate conoscere a tutti gli uomini le opere di Dio, come è giusto, e non siate negligenti nel rendergli grazie.
7 It is right to keep the secret of a king, yet right to reveal and publish the works of God as they deserve.Do what is good, and no evil can befall you.	7 E' bene tener nascosto il segreto del re, ma è giusto rivelare e manifestare le opere di Dio. Fate il bene e non vi colpirà nessuna disgrazia.
8 'Prayer with fasting and alms with uprightness are better than riches with iniquity. Better to practisealmsgiving than to hoard up gold.	8 Vale più la preghiera sincera e l'elemosina generosa che non la ricchezza acquisita ingiustamente. E' meglio fare l'elemosina che ammassare denaro.
9 Almsgiving saves from death and purges every kind of sin. Those who give alms have their fill of days;	9 L'elemosina libera dalla morte e purifica da ogni peccato. Coloro che praticano l'elemosina godranno lunga vita.
10 those who commit sin and do evil bring harm on themselves.	10 Coloro invece che commettono il peccato e l'ingiustizia sono nemici della propria vita.
11 'I am going to tel you the whole truth, hiding nothing from you. I have already told you that it is rightto keep the secret of a king, yet right too to reveal in a worthy way the words of God.	11 Vi scoprirò ora tutta la verità, senza nascondervi nulla. Vi ho già insegnato che è bene tenere nascosto il segreto del re, ma rivelare brillantemente le opere di Dio.
12 So you must know that when you and Sarah were at prayer, it was I who offered your supplicationsbefore the glory of the Lord and who read them; so too when you were burying the dead.	12 Ebbene, quando tu e Sara stavate pregando, io presentavo l'attestato della vostra preghiera davanti alla gloria del Signore. Così anche quando tu seppellivi i morti.
13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave the table to go and bury a dead man, I was sent to testyour faith,	13 Quando poi non hai esitato ad alzarti da mensa, abbandonando il tuo pranzo, per andare a seppellire quel morto, allora io sono stato inviato a metterti alla prova.
14 and at the same time God sent me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.	14 Ora Dio mi ha inviato di nuovo per guarire te e Sara, tua nuora.
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ever ready to enter the presence of the glory of theLord.'	15 Io sono Raffaele, uno dei sette angeli che sono al servizio di Dio e hanno accesso alla maestà del Signore".
16 They were both overwhelmed with awe; they fel on their faces in terror.	16 Allora tutti e due, scossi com'erano, caddero con la faccia a terra, pieni di terrore.
17 But the angel said, 'Do not be afraid; peace be with you. Bless God for ever.	17 Ma l'angelo disse loro: "Non temete, la pace sia con voi! Benedite Dio per tutti i secoli!
18 As far as I was concerned, when I was with you, my presence was not by any decision of mine, butby the wil of God; he is the one whom you must bless as long as you live, he the one that you must praise.	18 Quando ero con voi, non stavo con voi per effetto della mia benevolenza, ma per la volontà di Dio; lui dovete benedire sempre, a lui cantare inni.
19 You thought you saw me eating, but that was appearance and no more.	19 Benché mi abbiate visto mangiare, non mangiavo nulla; ciò che vedevate, era solo apparenza.
20 Now bless the Lord on earth and give thanks to God. I am about to return to him who sent me fromabove. Write down al that has happened.' And he rose in the air.	20 Benedite perciò il Signore sulla terra e rendete grazie a Dio. Ecco, io risalgo presso Colui che mi ha mandato. Mettete per iscritto tutto ciò che vi è accaduto". E salì in alto.
21 When they stood up again, he was no longer visible. They praised God with hymns; they thanked himfor having performed such wonders; had not an angel of God appeared to them?	21 Essi si rialzarono, ma non poterono più vederlo.
	22 Allora andavano benedicendo e celebrando Dio e gli rendevano grazie per tutte le grandi opere che aveva fatto, perché era loro apparso un angelo di Dio.
