Tobit 12

NEW JERUSALEM	GREEK BIBLE
1 When the wedding feast was over, Tobit cal ed his son Tobias and said, 'My son, you ought to thinkabout paying the amount due to your fellow travel er; give him more than the figure agreed on.'	1 και εκαλεσεν τωβιτ τωβιαν τον υιον αυτου και ειπεν αυτω ορα τεκνον μισθον τω ανθρωπω τω συνελθοντι σοι και προσθειναι αυτω δει
2 'Father,' he replied, 'how much am I to give him for his help? Even if I give him half the goods hebrought back with me, I shal not be the loser.	2 και ειπεν αυτω πατερ ου βλαπτομαι δους αυτω το ημισυ ων ενηνοχα
3 He has brought me back safe and sound, he has cured my wife, he has brought the money back too,and now he has cured you as wel . How much am I to give him for al this?'	3 οτι με αγειοχεν σοι υγιη και την γυναικα μου εθεραπευσεν και το αργυριον μου ηνεγκεν και σε ομοιως εθεραπευσεν
4 Tobit said, 'He has richly earned half what he brought back'.	4 και ειπεν ο πρεσβυτης δικαιουται αυτω
5 So Tobias cal ed his companion and said, 'Take half of what you brought back, in payment for al youhave done, and go in peace.'	5 και εκαλεσεν τον αγγελον και ειπεν αυτω λαβε το ημισυ παντων ων ενηνοχατε
6 Then Raphael took them both aside and said, 'Bless God, utter his praise before al the living for thefavour he has shown you. Bless and extol his name. Proclaim before all people the deeds of God as theydeserve, and never tire of giving him thanks.	6 τοτε καλεσας τους δυο κρυπτως ειπεν αυτοις ευλογειτε τον θεον και αυτω εξομολογεισθε μεγαλωσυνην διδοτε αυτω και εξομολογεισθε ενωπιον παντων των ζωντων περι ων εποιησεν μεθ' υμων αγαθον το ευλογειν τον θεον και υψουν το ονομα αυτου τους λογους των εργων του θεου εντιμως υποδεικνυοντες και μη οκνειτε εξομολογεισθαι αυτω
7 It is right to keep the secret of a king, yet right to reveal and publish the works of God as they deserve.Do what is good, and no evil can befall you.	7 μυστηριον βασιλεως καλον κρυψαι τα δε εργα του θεου ανακαλυπτειν ενδοξως αγαθον ποιησατε και κακον ουχ ευρησει υμας
8 'Prayer with fasting and alms with uprightness are better than riches with iniquity. Better to practisealmsgiving than to hoard up gold.	8 αγαθον προσευχη μετα νηστειας και ελεημοσυνης και δικαιοσυνης αγαθον το ολιγον μετα δικαιοσυνης η πολυ μετα αδικιας καλον ποιησαι ελεημοσυνην η θησαυρισαι χρυσιον
9 Almsgiving saves from death and purges every kind of sin. Those who give alms have their fill of days;	9 ελεημοσυνη γαρ εκ θανατου ρυεται και αυτη αποκαθαριει πασαν αμαρτιαν οι ποιουντες ελεημοσυνας και δικαιοσυνας πλησθησονται ζωης
10 those who commit sin and do evil bring harm on themselves.	10 οι δε αμαρτανοντες πολεμιοι εισιν της εαυτων ζωης
11 'I am going to tel you the whole truth, hiding nothing from you. I have already told you that it is rightto keep the secret of a king, yet right too to reveal in a worthy way the words of God.	11 ου μη κρυψω αφ' υμων παν ρημα ειρηκα δη μυστηριον βασιλεως κρυψαι καλον τα δε εργα του θεου ανακαλυπτειν ενδοξως
12 So you must know that when you and Sarah were at prayer, it was I who offered your supplicationsbefore the glory of the Lord and who read them; so too when you were burying the dead.	12 και νυν οτε προσηυξω συ και η νυμφη σου σαρρα εγω προσηγαγον το μνημοσυνον της προσευχης υμων ενωπιον του αγιου και οτε εθαπτες τους νεκρους ωσαυτως συμπαρημην σοι
13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave the table to go and bury a dead man, I was sent to testyour faith,	13 και οτε ουκ ωκνησας αναστηναι και καταλιπειν το αριστον σου οπως απελθων περιστειλης τον νεκρον ουκ ελαθες με αγαθοποιων αλλα συν σοι ημην
14 and at the same time God sent me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.	14 και νυν απεστειλεν με ο θεος ιασασθαι σε και την νυμφην σου σαρραν
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ever ready to enter the presence of the glory of theLord.'	15 εγω ειμι ραφαηλ εις εκ των επτα αγιων αγγελων οι προσαναφερουσιν τας προσευχας των αγιων και εισπορευονται ενωπιον της δοξης του αγιου
16 They were both overwhelmed with awe; they fel on their faces in terror.	16 και εταραχθησαν οι δυο και επεσον επι προσωπον οτι εφοβηθησαν
17 But the angel said, 'Do not be afraid; peace be with you. Bless God for ever.	17 και ειπεν αυτοις μη φοβεισθε ειρηνη υμιν εσται τον δε θεον ευλογειτε εις τον αιωνα
18 As far as I was concerned, when I was with you, my presence was not by any decision of mine, butby the wil of God; he is the one whom you must bless as long as you live, he the one that you must praise.	18 οτι ου τη εμαυτου χαριτι αλλα τη θελησει του θεου ημων ηλθον οθεν ευλογειτε αυτον εις τον αιωνα
19 You thought you saw me eating, but that was appearance and no more.	19 πασας τας ημερας ωπτανομην υμιν και ουκ εφαγον ουδε επιον αλλα ορασιν υμεις εθεωρειτε
20 Now bless the Lord on earth and give thanks to God. I am about to return to him who sent me fromabove. Write down al that has happened.' And he rose in the air.	20 και νυν εξομολογεισθε τω θεω διοτι αναβαινω προς τον αποστειλαντα με και γραψατε παντα τα συντελεσθεντα εις βιβλιον
21 When they stood up again, he was no longer visible. They praised God with hymns; they thanked himfor having performed such wonders; had not an angel of God appeared to them?	21 και ανεστησαν και ουκετι ειδον αυτον
	22 και εξωμολογουντο τα εργα τα μεγαλα και θαυμαστα του θεου και ως ωφθη αυτοις ο αγγελος κυριου
