Tobit 12

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 When the wedding feast was over, Tobit cal ed his son Tobias and said, 'My son, you ought to thinkabout paying the amount due to your fellow travel er; give him more than the figure agreed on.'	1 A la fin des noces, Tobit appela son fils Tobie, et lui dit: "Mon enfant, pense à régler ce qui est dû àton compagnon, tu dépasseras le prix convenu."
2 'Father,' he replied, 'how much am I to give him for his help? Even if I give him half the goods hebrought back with me, I shal not be the loser.	2 Il demanda: "Père, combien vais-je lui donner pour ses services? Même en lui laissant la moitié desbiens qu'il a rapportés avec moi, je n'y perds pas.
3 He has brought me back safe and sound, he has cured my wife, he has brought the money back too,and now he has cured you as wel . How much am I to give him for al this?'	3 Il me ramène sain et sauf, il a soigné ma femme, il rapporte avec moi l'argent, et enfin il t'a guéri!Combien lui donner encore pour cela?"
4 Tobit said, 'He has richly earned half what he brought back'.	4 Tobit lui dit: "Il a bien mérité la moitié de ce qu'il a rapporté."
5 So Tobias cal ed his companion and said, 'Take half of what you brought back, in payment for al youhave done, and go in peace.'	5 Tobie fit donc venir son compagnon, et lui dit: "Prends la moitié de ce que tu as ramené, pour prixde tes services, et va en paix."
6 Then Raphael took them both aside and said, 'Bless God, utter his praise before al the living for thefavour he has shown you. Bless and extol his name. Proclaim before all people the deeds of God as theydeserve, and never tire of giving him thanks.	6 Alors Raphaël les prit tous les deux à l'écart, et il leur dit: "Bénissez Dieu, célébrez-le devant tous lesvivants, pour le bien qu'il vous a fait. Bénissez et chantez son Nom. Faites connaître à tous les hommes lesactions de Dieu comme elles le méritent, et ne vous lassez pas de le remercier.
7 It is right to keep the secret of a king, yet right to reveal and publish the works of God as they deserve.Do what is good, and no evil can befall you.	7 Il convient de garder le secret du roi, tandis qu'il convient de révéler et de publier les oeuvres deDieu. Remerciez-le dignement. Faites ce qui est bien, et le malheur ne vous atteindra pas.
8 'Prayer with fasting and alms with uprightness are better than riches with iniquity. Better to practisealmsgiving than to hoard up gold.	8 Mieux vaut la prière avec le jeûne, et l'aumône avec la justice, que la richesse avec l'iniquité. Mieuxvaut pratiquer l'aumône, que thésauriser de l'or.
9 Almsgiving saves from death and purges every kind of sin. Those who give alms have their fill of days;	9 L'aumône sauve de la mort et elle purifie de tout péché. Ceux qui font l'aumône sont rassasiés dejours;
10 those who commit sin and do evil bring harm on themselves.	10 ceux qui font le péché et le mal se font du tort à eux-mêmes.
11 'I am going to tel you the whole truth, hiding nothing from you. I have already told you that it is rightto keep the secret of a king, yet right too to reveal in a worthy way the words of God.	11 Je vais vous dire toute la vérité, sans rien vous cacher: je vous ai déjà enseigné qu'il convient degarder le secret du roi, tandis qu'il convient de révéler dignement les oeuvres de Dieu.
12 So you must know that when you and Sarah were at prayer, it was I who offered your supplicationsbefore the glory of the Lord and who read them; so too when you were burying the dead.	12 Vous saurez donc que, lorsque vous étiez en prière, toi et Sarra, c'était moi qui présentais vossuppliques devant la Gloire du Seigneur et qui les lisais; et de même lorsque tu enterrais les morts.
13 When you did not hesitate to get up and leave the table to go and bury a dead man, I was sent to testyour faith,	13 Quand tu n'as pas hésité à te lever, et à quitter la table, pour aller ensevelir un mort, j'ai été envoyépour éprouver ta foi,
14 and at the same time God sent me to heal you and your daughter-in-law Sarah.	14 et Dieu m'envoya en même temps pour te guérir, ainsi que ta belle-fille Sarra.
15 I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ever ready to enter the presence of the glory of theLord.'	15 Je suis Raphaël, un des sept Anges qui se tiennent toujours prêts à pénétrer auprès de la Gloire duSeigneur."
16 They were both overwhelmed with awe; they fel on their faces in terror.	16 Ils furent remplis d'effroi tous les deux; ils se prosternèrent, et ils eurent grand-peur.
17 But the angel said, 'Do not be afraid; peace be with you. Bless God for ever.	17 Mais il leur dit: "Ne craignez point, la paix soit avec vous. Bénissez Dieu à jamais.
18 As far as I was concerned, when I was with you, my presence was not by any decision of mine, butby the wil of God; he is the one whom you must bless as long as you live, he the one that you must praise.	18 Pour moi, quand j'étais avec vous, ce n'est pas à moi que vous deviez ma présence, mais à lavolonté de Dieu: c'est lui qu'il faut bénir au long des jours, lui qu'il faut chanter.
19 You thought you saw me eating, but that was appearance and no more.	19 Vous avez cru me voir manger, ce n'était qu'une apparence.
20 Now bless the Lord on earth and give thanks to God. I am about to return to him who sent me fromabove. Write down al that has happened.' And he rose in the air.	20 Alors, bénissez le Seigneur sur la terre, et rendez grâce à Dieu. Je vais remonter à Celui qui m'aenvoyé. Ecrivez tout ce qui est arrivé." Et il s'éleva.
21 When they stood up again, he was no longer visible. They praised God with hymns; they thanked himfor having performed such wonders; had not an angel of God appeared to them?	21 Quand ils se redressèrent, il n'était plus visible. Ils louèrent Dieu par des hymnes; ils leremercièrent d'avoir opéré de telles merveilles: un ange de Dieu ne leur était-il pas apparu!
