Nehemiah 8

1 all the people gathered as one man in the square in front of the Water Gate, and asked the scribe Ezrato bring the Book of the Law of Moses which Yahweh had prescribed for Israel.	1 Giunto il settimo mese, essendo tutti i figli d'Israele nelle loro città, tutto il popolo si adunò com'un sol uomo nella piazza davanti alla porta delle acque, e disse allo scriba Esdra a di portare il libro della legge di Mosè, prescritta dal Signore a Israele,
2 Accordingly, on the first day of the seventh month, the priest Ezra brought the Law before theassembly, consisting of men, women and al those old enough to understand.	2 Il primo giorno del e settimo mese, il sacerdote Esdra, portata la legge dinanzi e alla moltitudine degli uomini, delle donne e dinanzi a tutti quelli che erano in grado d'intendere,
3 In the square in front of the Water Gate, in the presence of the men and women, and of those oldenough to understand, he read from the book from dawn till noon; al the people listened attentively to the Bookof the Law.	3 sulla piazza davanti alla porta delle acque, lesse nel libro, a voce chiara, dalla mattina al mezzodì, in presenza degli uomini, delle donne e dei sapienti; e le orecchie di tutto il popolo erano tese verso il libro.
4 The scribe Ezra stood on a wooden dais erected for the purpose; beside him stood, on his right,Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; on his left, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum,Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshul am.	4 Esdra, lo scriba, stava ritto sopra una tribuna di legno fatta apposta per parlare, e accanto a lui stavano in piedi, a destra: Matatia, Semeia, Ania, Uria, Elcia, Maasia; a sinistra Fadaia, Misael, Melchia, Asuin. Asbdana, Zaccaria e Mosollam.
5 In full view of al the people -- since he stood higher than them al -- Ezra opened the book; and whenhe opened it, al the people stood up.	5 Esdra aperse il libro davanti a tutto il popolo, che stava più alto di tutto il popolo, e com'ebbe aperto il libro, tutto il popolo s'alzò in piedi.
6 Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God, and al the people raised their hands and answered, 'Amen!Amen!'; then they bowed down and, face to the ground, prostrated themselves before Yahweh.	6 Esdra benedisse il Signore, il Dio grande, e tutto il popolo risposo: « Amen, Amen » alzando le mani; poi s'inchinaron e adorarono Dio prostrati per terra.
7 And Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabab,Hanan, Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the Law to the people, while the people al kept their places.	7 Iosue, Bani, Serebia, Tamin, Acculi, Septai, Odia, Maasia, Celila, Azaria, Iozabed, Anan, Falala, e i leviti tenevano in silenzio il popolo per ascoltare la legge, e il popolo stava in piedi al suo posto.
8 Ezra read from the book of the Law of God, translating and giving the sense; so the reading wasunderstood.	8 Si lesse nel libro della legge di Dio distintamente e chiaramente, da fare intendere, e quello che si leggeva fu inteso.
9 Then His Excel ency Nehemiah and the priest-scribe Ezra and the Levites who were instructing thepeople said to al the people, 'Today is sacred to Yahweh your God. Do not be mournful, do not weep.' For thepeople were all in tears as they listened to the words of the Law.	9 E Nehemia (o Atersata) e Esdra, sacerdote e scriba, e i leviti, che interpretavano la legge a tutto il popolo, dissero: « Questo giorno è consacrato al Signore Dio nostro: non fate lutto, non piangete » perchè il popolo, nell'udire le parole della legge, s'era messo a piangere.
10 He then said, 'You may go; eat what is rich, drink what is sweet and send a helping to the man whohas nothing prepared. For today is sacred to our Lord. Do not be sad: the joy of Yahweh is your stronghold.'	10 Poi disse loro: « Andate a mangiare delle carni grasse, a bere del vino dolce, e mandate delle porzioni a quelli che non han preparato nulla per loro, perchè è il giorno santo del Signore; non vi attristate, perchè il gaudio del Signore è la nostra forza ».
11 And the Levites calmed al the people down, saying, 'Keep quiet; this is a sacred day. Do not be sad.'	11 I leviti calmarono tutto il popolo col dire: « Tacete e non vi affliggete, perchè questo è giorno santo ».
12 Then al the people went off to eat and drink and give helpings away and enjoy themselves to the ful ,since they had understood the meaning of what had been proclaimed to them.	12 Allora tutto il popolo andò a mangiare, a bere, a mandar porzioni, a far gran festa, avendo intese le parole che eran state loro spiegate.
13 On the second day, the heads of families of the whole people, and the priests and Levites, gatheredround the scribe Ezra to study the words of the Law.	13 Il secondo giorno i capi delle famiglie di tutto il popolo, i sacerdoti e i leviti si radunarono presso Esdra, lo scriba, per farsi esporre le parole della legge,
14 And written in the Law that Yahweh had prescribed through Moses they found that the Israelites wereto live in shelters during the feast of the seventh month.	14 e trovarono, nel libro della legge, scritto che il Signore aveva ordinato, per bocca di Mosè, che i figli d'Israele abitassero sotto le tende nel giorno solenne del settimo mese,
15 So they issued a proclamation and had it circulated in al their towns and in Jerusalem: 'Go into thehil s and bring branches of olive, pine, myrtle, palm and other leafy trees to make shelters, as it says in the book.'	15 e ne fosse bandito e pubblicato l'annunzio in tutte le loro città, e in Gerusalemme, dicendo: « Andate al monte, a prendere rami d'olivo, rami dell'albero più bello, rami di mirto, rami di palme, rami di albero frondoso, per farne i Tabernacoli, come sta scritto ».
16 The people went out; they brought branches and made shelters for themselves, each man on his roof,in their courtyards, in the precincts of the Temple of God, in the square of the Water Gate and in the square ofthe Ephraim Gate.	16 Il popolo, andato a prenderli, se ne fece dei Tabernacoli, ciascuno sopra il suo terrazzo, nei suoi cortili, nei cortili della casa di Dio, sulla piazza della porta delle acque e sulla piazza della porta di Efraim.
17 The whole assembly, al who had returned from the captivity, put up shelters and lived in them; thisthe Israelites had not done from the days of Joshua son of Nun til that day, and there was very greatmerrymaking.	17 Così tutta l'assemblea, di coloro che eran tornati dalla cattività, fece dei Tabernacoli e dimorò nei Tabernacoli. Dal tempo di Giosuè figlio di Nun i figli d'Israele non l'avevan mai fatto in quella maniera. E la gioia fu grandissima.
18 Each day, from the first day to the last one, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. Theycelebrated the feast for seven days; on the eighth day, as prescribed, they held a solemn assembly.	18 Esdra poi ogni giorno, dal primo all'ultimo, lesse nel libro della legge: la festa fu celebrata per sette giorni, e l'ottavo giorno fu fatta la riunione secondo il rito.
