Nehemiah 8

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 all the people gathered as one man in the square in front of the Water Gate, and asked the scribe Ezrato bring the Book of the Law of Moses which Yahweh had prescribed for Israel.	1 Todo el pueblo se reunió como un solo hombre en la plaza que está ante la puerta del Agua. Entonces dijeron a Esdras, el escriba, que trajera el libro de la Ley de Moisés, que el Señor había dado a Israel.
2 Accordingly, on the first day of the seventh month, the priest Ezra brought the Law before theassembly, consisting of men, women and al those old enough to understand.	2 El sacerdote Esdras trajo la Ley ante la Asamblea, compuesto por los hombres, las mujeres y por todos los que podían entender lo que se leía. Era el primer día del séptimo mes.
3 In the square in front of the Water Gate, in the presence of the men and women, and of those oldenough to understand, he read from the book from dawn till noon; al the people listened attentively to the Bookof the Law.	3 Luego, desde el alba hasta promediar el día, leyó el libro en la plaza que está ante la puerta del Agua, en presencia de los hombres, de las mujeres y de todos los que podían entender. Y todo el pueblo seguía con atención la lectura del libro de la Ley.
4 The scribe Ezra stood on a wooden dais erected for the purpose; beside him stood, on his right,Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; on his left, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum,Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshul am.	4 Esdras, el escriba, estaba de pie sobre una tarima de madera que habían hecho para esa ocasión. Junto a él, a su derecha, estaban Matitías, Semá, Anaías, Urías, Jilquías y Maaseías, y a su izquierda Pedaías, Misael, Malquías, Jasúm, Jasbadaná, Zacarías y Mesulam.
5 In full view of al the people -- since he stood higher than them al -- Ezra opened the book; and whenhe opened it, al the people stood up.	5 Esdras abrió el libro a la vista de todo el pueblo –porque estaba más alto que todos– y cuando lo abrió, todo el pueblo se puso de pie.
6 Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God, and al the people raised their hands and answered, 'Amen!Amen!'; then they bowed down and, face to the ground, prostrated themselves before Yahweh.	6 Esdras bendijo al Señor, el Dios grande y todo el pueblo, levantando las manos, respondió: «¡Amén! ¡Amén!». Luego se inclinaron y se postraron delante del Señor con el rostro en tierra.
7 And Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabab,Hanan, Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the Law to the people, while the people al kept their places.	7 Josué, Baní, Serebías, Iamín, Acub, Sabtai, Hodías, Maaseías, Quelitá, Azarías, Jozabad, Janán y Pelaías –los levitas– exponían la Ley al pueblo, que se mantenía en sus puestos.
8 Ezra read from the book of the Law of God, translating and giving the sense; so the reading wasunderstood.	8 Ellos leían el libro de la Ley de Dios, con claridad, e interpretando el sentido, de manera que se comprendió la lectura.
9 Then His Excel ency Nehemiah and the priest-scribe Ezra and the Levites who were instructing thepeople said to al the people, 'Today is sacred to Yahweh your God. Do not be mournful, do not weep.' For thepeople were all in tears as they listened to the words of the Law.	9 Entonces Nehemías, el gobernador, Esdras, el sacerdote escriba, y los levitas que instruían al pueblo, dijeron a todo el pueblo: «Este es un día consagrado al Señor, su Dios: no estén tristes ni lloren». Porque todo el pueblo lloraba al oír las palabras de la Ley.
10 He then said, 'You may go; eat what is rich, drink what is sweet and send a helping to the man whohas nothing prepared. For today is sacred to our Lord. Do not be sad: the joy of Yahweh is your stronghold.'	10 Después añadió: «Ya pueden retirarse; coman bien, beban un buen vino y manden una porción al que no tiene nada preparado, porque este es un día consagrado a nuestro Señor. No estén tristes, porque la alegría en el Señor es la fortaleza de ustedes».
11 And the Levites calmed al the people down, saying, 'Keep quiet; this is a sacred day. Do not be sad.'	11 Y los levitas serenaban al pueblo, diciendo: «¡Tranquilícense! Este día es santo: no estén tristes».
12 Then al the people went off to eat and drink and give helpings away and enjoy themselves to the ful ,since they had understood the meaning of what had been proclaimed to them.	12 Todo el pueblo se fue a comer y a beber, a repartir porciones y a hacer grandes festejos, porque habían comprendido las palabras que les habían enseñado. La celebración de la fiesta de las Chozas
13 On the second day, the heads of families of the whole people, and the priests and Levites, gatheredround the scribe Ezra to study the words of the Law.	13 El segundo día, los jefes de familia de todo el pueblo, los sacerdotes y los levitas se reunieron junto a Esdras, el escriba, para profundizar las palabras de la Ley.
14 And written in the Law that Yahweh had prescribed through Moses they found that the Israelites wereto live in shelters during the feast of the seventh month.	14 Y en la Ley que el Señor había promulgado por medio de Moisés, encontraron escrito que los israelitas debían habitar en chozas durante la Fiesta del Séptimo mes,
15 So they issued a proclamation and had it circulated in al their towns and in Jerusalem: 'Go into thehil s and bring branches of olive, pine, myrtle, palm and other leafy trees to make shelters, as it says in the book.'	15 y que debían anunciarlo y publicar la proclama por todas sus ciudades y por Jerusalén, en estos términos: «Salgan a la montaña y traigan ramas de olivo, de olivo silvestre, de mirto, de palmera y de árboles frondosos, para hacer chozas, como está escrito».
16 The people went out; they brought branches and made shelters for themselves, each man on his roof,in their courtyards, in the precincts of the Temple of God, in the square of the Water Gate and in the square ofthe Ephraim Gate.	16 El pueblo fue a buscar ramas, y se hicieron chozas sobre sus techos, en sus patios y en los atrios de la Casa de Dios, en la plaza de la puerta del Agua y en la plaza de la puerta de Efraím.
17 The whole assembly, al who had returned from the captivity, put up shelters and lived in them; thisthe Israelites had not done from the days of Joshua son of Nun til that day, and there was very greatmerrymaking.	17 Toda la asamblea de los que habían vuelto del cautiverio hicieron chozas y habitaron en ellas. Desde los días de Josué, hijo de Nun, hasta ese día, los israelitas no habían hecho nada igual. La alegría fue muy grande.
18 Each day, from the first day to the last one, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. Theycelebrated the feast for seven days; on the eighth day, as prescribed, they held a solemn assembly.	18 Día tras día, desde el primer día de la semana hasta el último, se leyó el libro de la Ley de Dios. Durante siete días se celebró la Fiesta, y el octavo día hubo una asamblea solemne, como está establecido.
