Nehemiah 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 all the people gathered as one man in the square in front of the Water Gate, and asked the scribe Ezrato bring the Book of the Law of Moses which Yahweh had prescribed for Israel.	1 todo el pueblo se congregó como un solo hombre en la plaza que está delante de la puerta del Agua. Dijeron al escriba Esdras que trajera el libro de la Ley de Moisés que Yahveh había prescrito a Israel.
2 Accordingly, on the first day of the seventh month, the priest Ezra brought the Law before theassembly, consisting of men, women and al those old enough to understand.	2 Trajo el sacerdote Esdras la Ley ante la asamblea, integrada por hombres, mujeres y todos los que tenían uso de razón. Era el día uno del mes séptimo.
3 In the square in front of the Water Gate, in the presence of the men and women, and of those oldenough to understand, he read from the book from dawn till noon; al the people listened attentively to the Bookof the Law.	3 Leyó una parte en la plaza que está delante de la puerta del Agua, desde el alba hasta el mediodía, en presencia de los hombres, las mujeres y todos los que tenían uso de razón; y los oídos del pueblo estaban atentos al libro de la Ley.
4 The scribe Ezra stood on a wooden dais erected for the purpose; beside him stood, on his right,Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; on his left, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum,Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshul am.	4 El escriba Esdras estaba de pie sobre un estrado de madera levantado para esta ocasión; junto a él estaban: a su derecha, Matitías, Semá, Anaías, Urías, Jilquías y Maaseías, y a su izquierda, Pedaías, Misael, Malkías, Jasum, Jasbaddaná, Zacarías y Mesullam.
5 In full view of al the people -- since he stood higher than them al -- Ezra opened the book; and whenhe opened it, al the people stood up.	5 Esdras abrió el libro a los ojos de todo el pueblo - pues estaba más alto que todo el pueblo - y al abrirlo, el pueblo entero se puso en pie.
6 Then Ezra blessed Yahweh, the great God, and al the people raised their hands and answered, 'Amen!Amen!'; then they bowed down and, face to the ground, prostrated themselves before Yahweh.	6 Esdras bendijo a Yahveh, el Dios grande; y todo el pueblo, alzando las manos, respondió: «¡Amén! ¡Amén!»; e inclinándose se postraron ante Yahveh, rostro en tierra.
7 And Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabab,Hanan, Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the Law to the people, while the people al kept their places.	7 (Josué, Baní, Serebías, Yamín, Aqcub, Sabtay, Hodiyías, Maaseías, Quelitá, Azarías, Yozabad, Janán, Pelaías, que eran levitas, explicaban la Ley al pueblo que seguía en pie.)
8 Ezra read from the book of the Law of God, translating and giving the sense; so the reading wasunderstood.	8 Y Esdras leyó en el libro de la Ley de Dios, aclarando e interpretando el sentido, para que comprendieran la lectura.
9 Then His Excel ency Nehemiah and the priest-scribe Ezra and the Levites who were instructing thepeople said to al the people, 'Today is sacred to Yahweh your God. Do not be mournful, do not weep.' For thepeople were all in tears as they listened to the words of the Law.	9 Entonces (Nehemías - el gobernador - y) Esdras, el sacerdote excriba (y los levitas que explicaban al pueblo) dijeron a todo el pueblo: «Este día está consagrado a Yahveh vuestro Dios; no estéis tristes ni lloréis»; pues todo el pueblo lloraba al oír las palabras de la Ley.
10 He then said, 'You may go; eat what is rich, drink what is sweet and send a helping to the man whohas nothing prepared. For today is sacred to our Lord. Do not be sad: the joy of Yahweh is your stronghold.'	10 Díjoles también: «Id y comed manjares grasos, bebed bebidas dulces y mandad su ración a quien no tiene nada preparado. Porque este día está consagrado a nuestro Señor. No estéis tristes: la alegría de Yahveh es vuestra fortaleza».
11 And the Levites calmed al the people down, saying, 'Keep quiet; this is a sacred day. Do not be sad.'	11 También los levitas tranquilizaban al pueblo diciéndole: «Callad: este día es santo. No estéis tristes».
12 Then al the people went off to eat and drink and give helpings away and enjoy themselves to the ful ,since they had understood the meaning of what had been proclaimed to them.	12 Y el pueblo entero se fue a comer y beber, a repartir raciones y hacer gran festejo, porque habían comprendido las palabras que les habían enseñado.
13 On the second day, the heads of families of the whole people, and the priests and Levites, gatheredround the scribe Ezra to study the words of the Law.	13 El segundo día los cabezas de familia de todo el pueblo, los sacerdotes y levitas se reunieron junto al escriba Esdras para comprender las palabras de la Ley.
14 And written in the Law that Yahweh had prescribed through Moses they found that the Israelites wereto live in shelters during the feast of the seventh month.	14 Y encontraron escrito en la Ley que Yahveh había mandado por medio de Moisés que los hijos de Israel habitaran en cabañas durante la fiesta del séptimo mes.
15 So they issued a proclamation and had it circulated in al their towns and in Jerusalem: 'Go into thehil s and bring branches of olive, pine, myrtle, palm and other leafy trees to make shelters, as it says in the book.'	15 En cuanto lo oyeron, hicieron pregonar en todas las ciudades y en Jerusalén: «Salid al monte y traed ramas de olivo, de pino, de mirto, de palmera y de otros árboles frondosos, para hacer cabañas conforme a lo escrito».
16 The people went out; they brought branches and made shelters for themselves, each man on his roof,in their courtyards, in the precincts of the Temple of God, in the square of the Water Gate and in the square ofthe Ephraim Gate.	16 Salió el pueblo y trajeron ramas y se hicieron cabañas, cada uno en su terrado, en sus patios, en los atrios de la Casa de Dios, en la plaza de la puerta del Agua y en la plaza de la puerta de Efraím.
17 The whole assembly, al who had returned from the captivity, put up shelters and lived in them; thisthe Israelites had not done from the days of Joshua son of Nun til that day, and there was very greatmerrymaking.	17 Toda la asamblea, los que habían vuelto del cautiverio, construyó cabañas y habitó en ellas - cosa que los israelitas no habían hecho desde los días de Josué, hijo de Nun, hasta aquel día - y hubo gran regocijo.
18 Each day, from the first day to the last one, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. Theycelebrated the feast for seven days; on the eighth day, as prescribed, they held a solemn assembly.	18 Esdras leyó en el libro de la Ley de Dios diariamente, desde el primer día al último. Durante siete días, se celebró fiesta; al octavo tuvo lugar, según la norma, una asamblea solemne.
