Nehemiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah. It happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year,while I was in the citadel of Susa,	1 Parole di Nehemia figlio di Elcia. Nel mese di Casleu, nell'anno ventesimo, mentre io mi trovavo nel castello di Susa,
2 that Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with some men from Judah. I asked them about the Jews --those who had escaped and those who survived from the captivity -- and about Jerusalem.	2 arrivò Anani uno dei miei fratelli con alcuni uomini da Giuda. Avendo io chiesto notizie riguardo ai Giudei superstiti, scampati dalla cattività e a Gerusalemme,
3 They replied, 'The survivors remaining there in the province since the captivity are in a very bad anddemoralised condition: the wal s of Jerusalem are in ruins and its gates have been burnt down.'	3 essi mi dissero: « I superstiti della cattività sono abbandonati là nella provincia, e sono in grande afflizione e ignominia: le mura di Gerusalemme sono atterrate, le sue porte sono stato arse col fuoco ».
4 On hearing this I sat down and wept; for some days I mourned, fasting and praying before the God ofheaven.	4 Sentite queste parole, io mi posi a sedere, e piansi, e mi afflissi per molti giorni, digiunando e pregando dinanzi al Dio del cielo.
5 I said, 'Yahweh, God of heaven -- the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps a covenant of faithfullove with those who love him and obey his commandments-	5 E dissi: « Ti prego, o Signore Dio del cielo, forte, grande e terribile che mantieni il patto e la misericordia con quei che ti amano e osservano i tuoi comandamenti,
6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to listen to your servant's prayer, which I now offer to youday and night on behalf of your servants the Israelites. I admit the sins of the Israelites, which we havecommitted against you. Both I and my father's House have sinned;	6 le tue orecchie siano intente, i tuoi occhi aperti, per ascoltare la preghiera del tuo servo, che io fo davanti a te oggi e giorno e notte per i figli d'Israe­le tuoi servi, confessando i peccati dei figli d'Israele, peccati fatti contro di te. Io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo peccato:
7 we have acted very wickedly towards you by not keeping the commandments, laws and rulings whichyou enjoined on your servant Moses.	7 sedotti dalla vanità, non osservammo il tuo comando, le cerimonie, le ordinazioni che prescrivesti a Mosè tuo servo.
8 Remember, I beg you, the promise which you solemnly made to your servant Moses, "If you areunfaithful, I shal scatter you among the peoples;	8 Ricordati della parola che a Mosè tuo servo ordinasti di bandire: Se prevaricherete, io vi disperderò tra i popoli,
9 but if you come back to me and keep my commandments and practise them, even though those whohave been banished are at the very sky's end, I shal gather them from there and bring them back to the placewhich I have chosen as a dwel ing-place for my name."	9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei precetti, e li adempirete, quand'anche foste stati menati all'estremità del cielo, io di là vi raccoglierò e vi ricondurrò nel luogo da me eletto per farne la dimora del mio nome.
10 Since they are your servants, your people, whom you have redeemed with your mighty power andstrong hand,	10 Or questi sono i tuoi servi, è il tuo popolo che tu hai redento colla tua gran forza e colla tua mano potente.
11 O Lord, let your ear now be attentive to your servant's prayer and to the prayer of your servants whowant to revere your name. I beg you let your servant be successful today and win this man's compassion.' At thetime I was cupbearer to the king.	11 Te ne prego, o Signore, siano le tue orecchie intente alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera dei tuoi servi che vogliono temere il tuo nome: tu guida oggi il tuo servo, fagli trovar benevolenza davanti a quest'uomo ». Allora io ero coppiere del re.
