Nehemiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah. It happened in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year,while I was in the citadel of Susa,	1 Parole di Neemia, figlio di Acalia. Nel mese di Chisleu dell’anno ventesimo, mentre ero nella cittadella di Susa,
2 that Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with some men from Judah. I asked them about the Jews --those who had escaped and those who survived from the captivity -- and about Jerusalem.	2 Anàni, uno dei miei fratelli, e alcuni altri uomini arrivarono dalla Giudea. Li interrogai riguardo ai Giudei, i superstiti che erano scampati alla deportazione, e riguardo a Gerusalemme.
3 They replied, 'The survivors remaining there in the province since the captivity are in a very bad anddemoralised condition: the wal s of Jerusalem are in ruins and its gates have been burnt down.'	3 Essi mi dissero: «I superstiti che sono scampati alla deportazione sono là, nella provincia, in grande miseria e desolazione; le mura di Gerusalemme sono devastate e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco».
4 On hearing this I sat down and wept; for some days I mourned, fasting and praying before the God ofheaven.	4 Udite queste parole, mi sedetti e piansi; feci lutto per parecchi giorni, digiunando e pregando davanti al Dio del cielo.
5 I said, 'Yahweh, God of heaven -- the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps a covenant of faithfullove with those who love him and obey his commandments-	5 E dissi: «O Signore, Dio del cielo, Dio grande e tremendo, che mantieni l’alleanza e la fedeltà con quelli che ti amano e osservano i tuoi comandi,
6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to listen to your servant's prayer, which I now offer to youday and night on behalf of your servants the Israelites. I admit the sins of the Israelites, which we havecommitted against you. Both I and my father's House have sinned;	6 sia il tuo orecchio attento, i tuoi occhi aperti per ascoltare la preghiera del tuo servo; io prego ora davanti a te giorno e notte per gli Israeliti, tuoi servi, confessando i peccati che noi Israeliti abbiamo commesso contro di te; anch’io e la casa di mio padre abbiamo peccato.
7 we have acted very wickedly towards you by not keeping the commandments, laws and rulings whichyou enjoined on your servant Moses.	7 Abbiamo gravemente peccato contro di te e non abbiamo osservato i comandi, le leggi e le norme che tu hai dato a Mosè, tuo servo.
8 Remember, I beg you, the promise which you solemnly made to your servant Moses, "If you areunfaithful, I shal scatter you among the peoples;	8 Ricòrdati della parola che hai affidato a Mosè, tuo servo: “Se sarete infedeli, io vi disperderò fra i popoli;
9 but if you come back to me and keep my commandments and practise them, even though those whohave been banished are at the very sky's end, I shal gather them from there and bring them back to the placewhich I have chosen as a dwel ing-place for my name."	9 ma se tornerete a me e osserverete i miei comandi e li eseguirete, anche se i vostri esiliati si trovassero all’estremità dell’orizzonte, io di là li raccoglierò e li ricondurrò al luogo che ho scelto per farvi dimorare il mio nome”.
10 Since they are your servants, your people, whom you have redeemed with your mighty power andstrong hand,	10 Ora questi sono tuoi servi e tuo popolo, che hai redento con la tua grande forza e con la tua mano potente.
11 O Lord, let your ear now be attentive to your servant's prayer and to the prayer of your servants whowant to revere your name. I beg you let your servant be successful today and win this man's compassion.' At thetime I was cupbearer to the king.	11 O Signore, sia il tuo orecchio attento alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla preghiera dei tuoi servi, che desiderano temere il tuo nome; concedi oggi buon successo al tuo servo e fa' che trovi compassione presso quest’uomo». Io allora ero coppiere del re.
