NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Joash was seven years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	1 - Joas aveva sette anni quando incominciò a regnare e regnò quarant'anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre aveva nome Sebia di Bersabee.
2 Joash did what Yahweh regards as right throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.	2 Egli operò bene al cospetto del Signore durante la vita del sacerdote Joiada.
3 Jehoiada found him two wives and he fathered several sons and daughters.	3 Joiada gli fece prendere due mogli, dalle quali generò figli e figlie.
4 Later, Joash made up his mind to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	4 Dopo ciò piacque a Joas di riparare la casa del Signore;
5 Calling the priests and the Levites together, he said, 'Go out to the towns of Judah and collect moneyfrom al Israel for annual repairs to the Temple of Yahweh. Do this quickly.' But the Levites were in no hurry,	5 e riuniti i sacerdoti e i leviti, disse loro: «Andatevene tra le città di Giuda e raccogliete da tutto Israele danaro per riparare ogni anno il tempio di Dio vostro, e fate ciò con sollecitudine»; ma i leviti non se ne diedero molto pensiero.
6 so the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said, 'Why have you not insisted on the Levites'bringing in the tax from Judah and Jerusalem for the Tent of Witness, as imposed by Moses servant of Yahwehand the community of Israel?' --	6 Allora il re chiamò Joiada sommo sacerdote, e gli disse: «Perchè non ti sei dato pensiero d'indurre i leviti a portare da Giuda e da Gerusalemme il denaro che, secondo l'ordine dato da Mosè servo del Signore, tutta la moltitudine d'Israele deve offrire per il tabernacolo dell'alleanza?
7 Athaliah and her sons, whom she corrupted, despoiled the Temple of God and even assigned al thesacred revenues of the Temple of Yahweh to Baal.	7 Poichè Atalia, donna assai empia, e i figli suoi hanno distrutto la casa di Dio, e con tutte le cose che erano state consacrate nel tempio del Signore, hanno ornato il tempio dei Baalim».
8 So, at the king's order, a chest was made and put outside the gate of the Temple of Yahweh,	8 Comandò quindi il re che si fabbricasse una cassa e si mettesse presso la porta al di fuori della casa del Signore,
9 and a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax, which Moses servant ofGod had imposed on Israel in the desert, was to be brought to Yahweh.	9 e fu intimato in Gerusalemme che ciascuno portasse il tributo imposto da Mosè, servo di Dio, nel deserto a tutto Israele.
10 Then al the officials and all the people gladly brought in their contributions, depositing them in thechest until the payment was complete.	10 Tutti i principi e tutto il popolo se ne rallegrarono ed entrati portarono [il denaro] nella cassa del Signore, e ne misero tanto che essa fu riempita.
11 Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites for royal inspection and found to contain a large sumof money, the king's secretary and the chief priest's representative would come and empty the chest and thenhave it returned to its place. This was done day after day and a great deal of money was col ected.	11 Quando era tempo di portare la cassa dinanzi al re per mano dei leviti (i quali vedevano che il denaro era in gran quantità) entrava lo scriba del re in compagnia di quello che era stato designato dal sommo sacerdote, e vuotata la cassa di tutto il danaro, la riportavano di nuovo al suo luogo; così facevano ogni giorno, e raccolsero una quantità sterminata di denaro.
12 The king and Jehoiada handed it over to the foreman attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and thehired masons and carpenters set about repairing the Temple of Yahweh; and iron-workers and bronze-workerslaboured to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	12 Il re e Joiada consegnarono allora questo denaro a quelli che erano stati incaricati dei lavori della casa del Signore, i quali con esso ingaggiarono scalpellini e artigiani per le diverse opere per restaurare la casa del Signore, come fabbri ferrai, e lavoratori di bronzo, affinchè riparassero ciò che incominciava a cadere.
13 The workmen got on with the task -- the repair work made good progress at their hands -- until theyhad restored the Temple of God to its former state and reconditioned it.	13 Costoro lavorarono con grande diligenza e turarono le fessure delle pareti e ridonarono la casa del Signore al suo antico stato e la consolidarono stabilmente.
14 When they had finished, they brought the balance of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and withthis vessels were made for the Temple of Yahweh, vessels for the liturgy and for the burnt offerings, bowls andother gold and silver vessels. And the perpetual burnt offering was offered in the Temple of Yahweh throughoutJehoiada's lifetime.	14 Terminato ogni lavoro riportarono al re e a Joiada il resto del denaro, e con essi fecero vasi del tempio, per il servizio e per gli olocausti, come pure coppe e altri vasi d'oro e d'argento. Così vennero offerti di continuo olocausti nella casa del Signore, per tutto il tempo della vita di Joiada.
15 But Jehoiada, growing old, had his fil of days and died. He died at the age of a hundred and thirtyyears,	15 Invecchiò poi Joiada e morì in età di centotrent'anni
16 and was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had served Israel and God and hisTemple well.	16 e fu sepolto nella città di Davide insieme coi re, avendo fatto del bene ad Israele e alla casa di lui.
17 After Jehoiada's death the officials of Judah came to pay court to the king, and the king listened totheir advice,	17 Morto Joiada, i principi di Giuda vennero al re e si prostrarono dinanzi a lui, e questi, lusingato dai loro omaggi, fece a modo loro;
18 and they abandoned the Temple of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, for the worship of sacred polesand idols. Judah and Jerusalem incurred wrath because of this guilt of theirs.	18 essi abbandonarono il tempio del Signore Dio de' loro padri, e nei boschetti sacri prestarono culto ai simulacri, cosicchè a causa di questo peccato l'ira del Signore si accese contro Giuda e Gerusalemme.
19 He sent their prophets to lead them back to Yahweh; these put the case against them, but theywould not listen.	19 Ed egli mandava ad essi profeti, perchè ritornassero al Signore, ma quelli non volevano ascoltare i loro avvertimenti.
20 The spirit of God then invested Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the peopleand said, 'God says this, "Why transgress Yahweh's commands to your certain ruin? For if you abandonYahweh, he will abandon you."	20 Lo spirito del Signore investì allora il sacerdote Zaccaria, figlio di Joiada, il quale, presentatosi al popolo, disse: «Il Signore Iddio dice queste cose: - Perchè trascurate il precetto del Signore? Questo non potrà certo giovarvi. Avete forse abbandonato il Signore, perchè anch'egli vi abbia da abbandonare? -».
21 They then plotted against him and, at the king's order, stoned him in the court of the Temple ofYahweh.	21 Ma quelli insorsero contro di lui, secondo l'ordine del re, e gli lanciarono contro delle pietre nell'atrio della casa del Signore.
22 Thus King Joash, forgetful of the devotion which Jehoiada father of Zechariah had displayed on hisbehalf, murdered his son, who cried out as he died, 'Yahweh wil see this and avenge it!'	22 Così il re Joas non si ricordò della benevolenza usata verso di lui da Joiada padre di Zaccaria, ma ne fece morire il figlio, il quale spirando disse: «Il Signore vegga e faccia giustizia».
23 At the turn of the year, the Aramaean army made war on Joash. When they reached Judah andJerusalem, they massacred al the nation's government officials and sent al their booty to the king of Damascus.	23 Passato un anno salì contro di lui l'esercito di Siria e arrivato in Giuda e in Gerusalemme fece morire tutti i principi del popolo e tutto il bottino fu mandato al re di Damasco.
24 Although the invading Aramaean army was only a smal body of men, Yahweh al owed them todefeat a very large army because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors; thus they executedjudgement on Joash. After they had retired -- for they left him seriously wounded-	24 Quantunque fosse esiguo il numero dei Siri, il Signore tuttavia diede ad essi nelle mani una gran moltitudine, perchè essa aveva abbandonato il Signore Dio dei padri suoi; anche Joas fu ignominiosamente trattato.
25 his own retainers plotted against him to avenge the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest andmurdered him in his bed. When he died he was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	25 I Siri alla loro partenza lo lasciarono in grandi sofferenze; insorsero allora contro di lui i suoi servi per vendicarsi del sangue del figlio di Joiada sacerdote e lo uccisero nel suo letto. Morto, venne sepolto nella città di Davide, ma non nella tomba dei re.
26 These were the conspirators: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonite and Jehozabad son of Shimriththe Moabite.	26 Quelli che cospirarono contro di lui furono Zabad, figlio di Semmaat Ammanita, e Jozabad, figlio di Semarit Moabita.
27 As regards his sons, the heavy tribute imposed on him, and the restoration of the Temple of God,this is recorded in the Commentary on the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him.	27 I figli poi di lui e tutto il denaro raccolto durante il suo regno, le opere di restauro alla casa di Dio, si trovano scritte diligentemente nel libro dei re. Gli succedette sul trono suo figlio Amasia.
