NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Joash was seven years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for forty years in Jerusalem.His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.	1 Siete años tenía Joás cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó cuarenta años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Sibía de Berseba.
2 Joash did what Yahweh regards as right throughout the lifetime of Jehoiada the priest.	2 Joás hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh durante toda la vida del sacerdote Yehoyadá.
3 Jehoiada found him two wives and he fathered several sons and daughters.	3 Este le casó con dos mujeres, y engendró hijos e hijas.
4 Later, Joash made up his mind to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	4 Después de esto resolvió Joás restaurar la Casa de Yahveh.
5 Calling the priests and the Levites together, he said, 'Go out to the towns of Judah and collect moneyfrom al Israel for annual repairs to the Temple of Yahweh. Do this quickly.' But the Levites were in no hurry,	5 Reunió a los sacerdotes y a los levitas y les dijo: «Recorred las ciudades de Judá y juntad cada año plata en todo Israel para reparar la Casa de vuestro Dios; y daos prisa en ello». Pero los levitas no se dieron prisa.
6 so the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said, 'Why have you not insisted on the Levites'bringing in the tax from Judah and Jerusalem for the Tent of Witness, as imposed by Moses servant of Yahwehand the community of Israel?' --	6 Llamó entonces el rey a Yehoyadá, sumo sacerdote, y le dijo: «¿Por qué no has tenido cuidado de que los levitas trajesen de Judá y de Jerusalén la contribución que Moisés, siervo de Yahveh, y la asamblea de Israel prescribieron para la Tienda del Testimonio?»
7 Athaliah and her sons, whom she corrupted, despoiled the Temple of God and even assigned al thesacred revenues of the Temple of Yahweh to Baal.	7 Pues la impía Atalía y sus hijos habían arruinado la Casa de Dios, llegando incluso a emplear para los Baales todas las cosas consagradas a la Casa de Yahveh.
8 So, at the king's order, a chest was made and put outside the gate of the Temple of Yahweh,	8 Mandó, pues, el rey que se hiciera un cofre, que fue colocado junto a la puerta de la Casa de Yahveh, por la parte exterior;
9 and a proclamation was issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem that the tax, which Moses servant ofGod had imposed on Israel in the desert, was to be brought to Yahweh.	9 y echaron bando en Judá y en Jerusalén de que trajesen a Yahveh la contribución que Moisés, siervo de Dios, había impuesto a Israel en el desierto.
10 Then al the officials and all the people gladly brought in their contributions, depositing them in thechest until the payment was complete.	10 Todos los jefes y todo el pueblo se alegraron; y traían la contribución y la echaban en el cofre hasta que se llenaba.
11 Whenever the chest was brought by the Levites for royal inspection and found to contain a large sumof money, the king's secretary and the chief priest's representative would come and empty the chest and thenhave it returned to its place. This was done day after day and a great deal of money was col ected.	11 Cuando llevaban el cofre a los inspectores del rey, por medio de los levitas, si veían que había mucho dinero, venía el secretario del rey y el inspector del sumo sacerdote para vaciar el cofre; luego, lo tomaban y lo volvían a su lugar. Así lo hacían cada vez, y recogían dinero en abundancia.
12 The king and Jehoiada handed it over to the foreman attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and thehired masons and carpenters set about repairing the Temple of Yahweh; and iron-workers and bronze-workerslaboured to repair the Temple of Yahweh.	12 El rey y Yehoyadá se lo daban a los encargados de las obras del servicio de la Casa de Yahveh, y éstos tomaban a sueldo canteros y carpinteros para restaurar la Casa de Yahveh, y también a los que trabajaban en hierro y bronce, para reparar la Casa de Yahveh.
13 The workmen got on with the task -- the repair work made good progress at their hands -- until theyhad restored the Temple of God to its former state and reconditioned it.	13 Trabajaron, pues, los encargados de la obra, y con sus trabajos adelantaron las reparaciones del edificio; restituyeron la Casa de Dios a su primer estado y la consolidaron.
14 When they had finished, they brought the balance of the money to the king and Jehoiada, and withthis vessels were made for the Temple of Yahweh, vessels for the liturgy and for the burnt offerings, bowls andother gold and silver vessels. And the perpetual burnt offering was offered in the Temple of Yahweh throughoutJehoiada's lifetime.	14 Acabado el trabajo, entregaron al rey y a Yehoyadá el resto del dinero, con el cual hicieron objetos para la Casa de Yahveh, utensilios para el ministerio y para los holocaustos, vasos y objetos de oro y plata. Durante toda la vida de Yehoyadá se ofrecieron siempre holocaustos en la Casa de Yahveh.
15 But Jehoiada, growing old, had his fil of days and died. He died at the age of a hundred and thirtyyears,	15 Envejeció Yehoyadá, y murió colmado de días. Tenía 130 años cuando murió.
16 and was buried with the kings in the City of David because he had served Israel and God and hisTemple well.	16 Le sepultaron en la Ciudad de David, con los reyes, porque había hecho el bien en Israel, con Dios y con su Casa.
17 After Jehoiada's death the officials of Judah came to pay court to the king, and the king listened totheir advice,	17 Después de la muerte de Yehoyadá vinieron los jefes de Judá a postrarse delante del rey, y entonces el rey les prestó oído.
18 and they abandoned the Temple of Yahweh, God of their ancestors, for the worship of sacred polesand idols. Judah and Jerusalem incurred wrath because of this guilt of theirs.	18 Abandonaron la Casa de Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a los cipos y a los ídolos; la cólera estalló contra Judá y Jerusalén a causa de esta culpa suya.
19 He sent their prophets to lead them back to Yahweh; these put the case against them, but theywould not listen.	19 Yahveh les envió profetas que dieron testimonio contra ellos para que se convirtiesen a él, pero no les prestaron oído.
20 The spirit of God then invested Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood up before the peopleand said, 'God says this, "Why transgress Yahweh's commands to your certain ruin? For if you abandonYahweh, he will abandon you."	20 Entonces el espíritu de Dios revistió a Zacarías, hijo del sacerdote Yehoyadá que, presentándose delante del pueblo, les dijo: «Así dice Dios: ¿Por qué traspasáis los mandamientos de Yahveh? No tendréis éxito; pues por haber abandonado a Yahveh, él os abandonará a vosotros».
21 They then plotted against him and, at the king's order, stoned him in the court of the Temple ofYahweh.	21 Mas ellos conspiraron contra él, y por mandato del rey le apedrearon en el atrio de la Casa de Yahveh.
22 Thus King Joash, forgetful of the devotion which Jehoiada father of Zechariah had displayed on hisbehalf, murdered his son, who cried out as he died, 'Yahweh wil see this and avenge it!'	22 Pues el rey Joás no se acordó del amor que le había tenido Yehoyadá, padre de Zacarías, sino que mató a su hijo, que exclamó al morir: «¡Véalo Yahveh y exija cuentas!»
23 At the turn of the year, the Aramaean army made war on Joash. When they reached Judah andJerusalem, they massacred al the nation's government officials and sent al their booty to the king of Damascus.	23 A la vuelta de un año subió contra Joás el ejército de los arameos, que invadieron Judá y Jerusalén, mataron de entre la población a todos los jefes del pueblo, y enviaron todo el botín al rey de Damasco,
24 Although the invading Aramaean army was only a smal body of men, Yahweh al owed them todefeat a very large army because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors; thus they executedjudgement on Joash. After they had retired -- for they left him seriously wounded-	24 pues aunque el ejército de los arameos había venido con poca gente, Yahveh entregó en sus manos a un ejército muy grande; porque habían abandonado a Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres. De este modo los arameos hicieron justicia con Joás.
25 his own retainers plotted against him to avenge the blood of the son of Jehoiada the priest andmurdered him in his bed. When he died he was buried in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.	25 Y cuando se alejaron de él, dejándole gravemente enfermo, se conjuraron contra él sus servidores, por la sangre del hijo del sacerdote Yehoyadá, le mataron en su lecho y murió. Le sepultaron en la Ciudad de David, pero no le sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes.
26 These were the conspirators: Zabad son of Shimeath the Ammonite and Jehozabad son of Shimriththe Moabite.	26 Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad, hijo de Simat la ammonita, y Yehozabad, hijo de Simrit la moabita.
27 As regards his sons, the heavy tribute imposed on him, and the restoration of the Temple of God,this is recorded in the Commentary on the Book of the Kings. His son Amaziah succeeded him.	27 Lo tocante a sus hijos, la gran cantidad de impuestos que percibió y la restauración de la Casa de Dios, se halla escrito en el midrás del libro de los reyes. En su lugar reinó su hijo Amasías.
