NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah toblock the communications of Asa king of Judah.	1 Mas no trigésimo sexto ano do reinado de Asa, rei de Israel, Baasa fez guerra contra Judá. Fez fortificações em Ramá, a fim de bloquear todas as comunicações com Asa, rei de Judá.
2 Asa then took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and the royal palace andsent this with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus,	2 Mas Asa mandou tomar a prata e o ouro dos tesouros do templo e do palácio real, e enviou uma delegação a Ben-Hadad, rei da Síria, para lhe dizer:
3 'Let us make an alliance between me and you, between my father and your father! Look, I have sentyou silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil make him withdraw fromme.'	3 Aliemo-nos, como foram aliados teu pai e o meu. Eu te envio prata e ouro. Rompe tua aliança com Baasa, rei de Israel, para que ele se afaste de mim.
4 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim and al the storage towns of Naphtali.	4 Ben-Hadad ouviu o rei Asa: enviou seus generais contra as cidades de Israel. Estes tomaram Aion, Dã, Abel-Main e todas as cidades de Neftali que serviam de entrepostos.
5 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah, abandoning this work.	5 A essa notícia, Baasa interrompeu os trabalhos de fortificação de Ramá.
6 King Asa then had al Judah carry away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifyingRamah, and used them to fortify Geba and Mizpah.	6 Então o rei Asa convocou todos os judeus para tirar as pedras e madeiras das quais Baasa se tinha servido para construir Ramá: serviu-se delas para fortificar Gabaa e Masfa.
7 Then it was that Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, 'Because you relied on the kingof Aram and not on Yahweh your God, the king of Aram's army wil slip through your fingers.	7 Por essa época, o vidente Hanani veio à procura de Asa, rei de Judá, e lhe disse: Porque te apoiaste no rei da Síria e não no Senhor teu Deus, o exército da Síria escapou de tuas mãos.
8 Did not the Cushites and Libyans form a vast army with great numbers of chariots and cavalry? Evenso, because you relied on Yahweh, he gave you the upper hand;	8 Não formavam os etíopes e os líbios um exército inumerável, com uma multidão de carros e cavaleiros? E, contudo, o Senhor os entregou a ti porque tu te apoiaste nele.
9 for Yahweh's eyes rove to and fro across the whole world to support those whose hearts are loyal tohim. You have acted like a fool in this respect; hence, from now on you wil have wars.'	9 Os olhos do Senhor percorrem toda a terra para sustentar aqueles cujo coração lhe é totalmente devotado. Tu te comportaste tolamente nesse negócio, pois doravante terás continuamente guerras.
10 Enraged with the seer, Asa had him put in the stocks in prison, being angry with him over this; at thesame time Asa ill-treated some of the people too.	10 Irritado contra o vidente, no assomo de ira em que o puseram suas palavras, Asa mandou metê-lo na prisão. Pelo mesmo tempo, Asa oprimiu também alguns de seus súditos.
11 The history of Asa, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	11 As ações e os feitos de Asa, desde os primeiros até os últimos, estão relatados no livro dos Reis de Judá e de Israel.
12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa contracted a disease in his feet, which became very severe;in his il ness, however, he consulted not Yahweh but the doctors.	12 No trigésimo nono ano de seu reinado, Asa tornou-se gotoso e sofreu violentamente. Durante sua doença, ele não procurou o apoio do Senhor, mas o dos médicos.
13 Asa then fel asleep with his ancestors, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.	13 Ele adormeceu com seus pais e morreu no quadragésimo primeiro ano de seu reinado.
14 He was buried in the tomb which he had ordered to be cut for him in the City of David. He was laid inthe burial chamber which was fil ed with perfume blended from all sorts of oils, and a very great funeral fire wasmade for him.	14 Foi sepultado na tumba que tinha mandado cavar para si na cidade de Davi; estenderam-no num leito que tinham enchido de perfumes aromáticos, preparados segundo a arte do perfumista, e queimaram-lhe quantidade considerável desse perfume.
