NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah toblock the communications of Asa king of Judah.	1 El año trigésimo sexto del reinado de Asá, Basá, rey de Israel, subió contra Judá y fortificó Ramá, para cortarle las comunicaciones a Asá, rey de Judá.
2 Asa then took silver and gold from the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and the royal palace andsent this with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus,	2 Entonces Asá recogió plata y oro de los tesoros de la Casa del Señor y de la casa del rey, y se los envió a Ben Hadad, rey de Aram, que residía en Damasco, con el siguiente mensaje:
3 'Let us make an alliance between me and you, between my father and your father! Look, I have sentyou silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil make him withdraw fromme.'	3 «Hay una alianza entre tú y yo, como la hubo entre mi padre y el tuyo. Aquí te envío plata y oro. Rompe tu alianza con Basá, rey de Israel, para que él se retire de mi territorio».
4 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim and al the storage towns of Naphtali.	4 Ben Hadad le hizo caso y envió a los jefes de su ejército contra las ciudades de Israel. Ellos atacaron a Ión, Dan, Abel Maim y todos los depósitos de las ciudades de Neftalí.
5 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah, abandoning this work.	5 Cuando se enteró Basá, suspendió la fortificación de Ramá e interrumpió los trabajos.
6 King Asa then had al Judah carry away the stones and timber with which Baasha had been fortifyingRamah, and used them to fortify Geba and Mizpah.	6 El rey Asá movilizó entonces a todo Judá, y se llevaron las piedras y la madera con que Basá estaba fortificando Ramá. Con ellas, Asá fortificó Gueba y Mispá.
7 Then it was that Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, 'Because you relied on the kingof Aram and not on Yahweh your God, the king of Aram's army wil slip through your fingers.	7 En aquel tiempo, el vidente Jananí se presentó ante Asá, rey de Judá, y le dijo: «Por haberte apoyado en el rey de Aram en vez de apoyarte en el Señor, tu Dios, el ejército del rey de Aram se te ha escapado de las manos.
8 Did not the Cushites and Libyans form a vast army with great numbers of chariots and cavalry? Evenso, because you relied on Yahweh, he gave you the upper hand;	8 ¿Acaso los cusitas y los libios no formaban un ejército numeroso, con una enorme cantidad de carros de guerra y caballería? Y sin embargo, por haberte apoyado en el Señor, él los entregó en tus manos.
9 for Yahweh's eyes rove to and fro across the whole world to support those whose hearts are loyal tohim. You have acted like a fool in this respect; hence, from now on you wil have wars.'	9 Porque los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para sostener a aquellos cuyo corazón está con él íntegramente. En esto te has comportado como un necio. Por eso, de ahora en adelante vivirás en guerra».
10 Enraged with the seer, Asa had him put in the stocks in prison, being angry with him over this; at thesame time Asa ill-treated some of the people too.	10 Asá se irritó contra el vidente y lo hizo poner en la cárcel, porque se había enfurecido con él a causa de esto. Por aquel mismo tiempo, Asá oprimió también a una parte del pueblo.
11 The history of Asa, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.	11 En cuanto a los hechos de Asá, desde el principio hasta el fin, están escritos en el Libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.
12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa contracted a disease in his feet, which became very severe;in his il ness, however, he consulted not Yahweh but the doctors.	12 En el trigésimo noveno año de su reinado, Asá se enfermó gravemente de los pies. Pero ni siquiera en su enfermedad recurrió al Señor, sino a los médicos.
13 Asa then fel asleep with his ancestors, dying in the forty-first year of his reign.	13 Asá murió en el cuadragésimo primer año de su reinado, y se fue a descansar con sus padres.
14 He was buried in the tomb which he had ordered to be cut for him in the City of David. He was laid inthe burial chamber which was fil ed with perfume blended from all sorts of oils, and a very great funeral fire wasmade for him.	14 Lo sepultaron en la tumba que se había hecho cavar en la Ciudad de David. Lo depositaron sobre un lecho lleno de ungüentos y de diversos perfumes cuidadosamente preparados, y se encendió en su honor una enorme hoguera.
