NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The spirit of God then came on Azariah son of Oded;	1 Lo spirito di Dio si posò su Azaria figlio di Obed,
2 he went out to meet Asa and said, 'Listen to me, Asa, and all you in Judah and in Benjamin: Yahwehwil be with you so long as you are with him. If you seek him, he will let you find him; but if you desert him, he wildesert you.	2 che uscì incontro ad Asa e gli disse: "Ascoltami, Asa, e voi tutti di Giuda e di Beniamino! Il Signore è con voi, se voi siete con lui, e se lo ricercherete egli si lascerà trovare da voi; ma se voi lo abbandonerete egli vi abbandonerà.
3 For a long time Israel did not have the true God or a teacher-priest or a law,	3 Per lungo tempo Israele è stato senza vero Dio, senza sacerdote che insegnasse e senza legge,
4 but when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, God of Israel, and sought him, he let them find him.	4 finché nella sua angustia ritornò al Signore, Dio d'Israele, lo ricercò ed egli si fece trovare da lui.
5 In those times there was no security for people as they went about their business, but great unrestaffecting the inhabitants of all countries,	5 In quel tempo non c'era sicurezza per quelli che uscivano e quelli che entravano, perché grandi tumulti agitavano gli abitanti delle regioni.
6 nation being crushed by nation and city by city, since God caused confusion among them by everykind of distress.	6 Una nazione si scontrò contro un'altra, una città contro un'altra, perché Dio li sconvolse con ogni genere di sventura.
7 So be strong, do not be discouraged, for your deeds wil be rewarded.'	7 Ma voi siate forti, le vostre mani non si infiacchiscano, perché ci sarà una ricompensa per le vostre azioni".
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy, he took courage and removed the abominable idolsthroughout the land of Judah and Benjamin as wel as from the towns which he had captured in the highlands ofEphraim, and repaired the altar of Yahweh which stood in front of the portico of Yahweh.	8 Quando Asa ebbe udito queste parole e la profezia, si fece animo e rimosse le abominazioni idolatriche da tutto il territorio di Giuda e di Beniamino e dalle città che aveva conquistato sulle montagne di Efraim e rinnovò l'altare del Signore, che si trovava di fronte al vestibolo del Signore.
9 He summoned al Judah and Benjamin as wel as those Ephraimites, Manassehites and Simeoniteswho had settled with them -- for a great many people from Israel had gone over to Asa when they saw thatYahweh his God was with him.	9 Inoltre radunò tutto Giuda e Beniamino e quelli di Efraim, di Manasse e di Simeone che soggiornavano presso di loro; molti infatti erano passati a lui da Israele, vedendo che il Signore, suo Dio, era con lui.
10 They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Si radunarono dunque a Gerusalemme nel terzo mese dell'anno decimoquinto del regno di Asa.
11 that day sacrificing to Yahweh seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the booty whichthey had brought back.	11 In quel giorno furono sacrificati al Signore, dal bottino che avevano preso, settecento buoi e settemila pecore.
12 They then made a covenant to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, with al their heart and soul;	12 Si obbligarono con un patto a cercare il Signore, Dio dei loro padri, con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima.
13 anyone who would not seek Yahweh, God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether high or low, manor woman.	13 Chiunque non avesse ricercato il Signore, Dio d'Israele, sarebbe stato messo a morte, piccolo o grande, uomo o donna che fosse.
14 They pledged their oath to Yahweh in ringing tones, with shouts of joy, to the sound of trumpet andhorn;	14 Prestarono giuramento al Signore a gran voce, fra grida di gioia, squilli di trombe e di corni.
15 al Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it wholeheartedly, and sought him so earnestlythat he al owed them to find him; Yahweh gave them peace all round.	15 Tutto Giuda si rallegrò del giuramento, poiché avevano giurato con tutto il loro cuore e avevano ricercato il Signore con tutto il loro buon volere ed egli si era lasciato trovare da loro. Il Signore aveva concesso loro la tranquillità tutt'intorno.
16 King Asa even deprived his mother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made anobscenity for Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity, smashed it and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	16 Persino Maaca, madre del re Asa, egli destituì dalla dignità di Grande Signora, perché aveva costruito un orrore per Asera; Asa abbatté l'orrore, lo frantumò e lo bruciò nel torrente Cedron.
17 Though the high places were not abolished in Israel, Asa's heart was loyal throughout his life.	17 Ma le alture non furono eliminate da Israele, benché il cuore di Asa fosse integro per tutta la sua vita.
18 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels, in theTemple of Yahweh.	18 Egli fece anche portare nel tempio di Dio i doni votivi del padre suo ed i propri doni votivi, argento, oro e vasellame.
19 Up to the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign there was no war.	19 Non ci fu nessuna guerra fino all'anno trentacinquesimo del regno di Asa.
