1 The spirit of God then came on Azariah son of Oded;	1 - Allora Azaria, figlio di Oded, rivestito dello spirito di Dio,
2 he went out to meet Asa and said, 'Listen to me, Asa, and all you in Judah and in Benjamin: Yahwehwil be with you so long as you are with him. If you seek him, he will let you find him; but if you desert him, he wildesert you.	2 venne a incontrare Asa e gli disse: «Ascoltami, Asa, e voi tutti di Giuda e di Beniamino. Il Signore è con voi, perchè voi foste con lui. Se lo cercherete, lo troverete; ma se lo abbandonerete, egli abbandonerà voi.
3 For a long time Israel did not have the true God or a teacher-priest or a law,	3 Per molto tempo Israele sarà senza il vero Dio e senza sacerdoti che lo ammaestrino e senza legge.
4 but when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, God of Israel, and sought him, he let them find him.	4 Ma quando nelle loro angustie si rivolgeranno al Signore Dio d'Israele e lo cercheranno, lo troveranno.
5 In those times there was no security for people as they went about their business, but great unrestaffecting the inhabitants of all countries,	5 In quel tempo non vi sarà sicurezza per essi nè per chi entra nè per chi esce, ma terrore da ogni parte su tutti gli abitanti della terra.
6 nation being crushed by nation and city by city, since God caused confusion among them by everykind of distress.	6 Le nazioni combatteranno contro le nazioni e le città contro le città, poichè il Signore li scompiglierà con ogni sorta di angosce.
7 So be strong, do not be discouraged, for your deeds wil be rewarded.'	7 Voi pertanto siate forti e non lasciate che le vostre mani si illanguidiscano, poichè l'opera vostra avrà la sua ricompensa».
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy, he took courage and removed the abominable idolsthroughout the land of Judah and Benjamin as wel as from the towns which he had captured in the highlands ofEphraim, and repaired the altar of Yahweh which stood in front of the portico of Yahweh.	8 Quando Asa ebbe udite queste parole, vale a dire la profezia di Azaria, figlio del profeta Oded, si fece animo e dopo aver fatto sparire gli idoli dell'intera terra di Giuda e di Beniamino e dalle città, che egli aveva occupate nella montagna di Efraim, dedicò l'altare del Signore che era dinanzi al portico del Signore.
9 He summoned al Judah and Benjamin as wel as those Ephraimites, Manassehites and Simeoniteswho had settled with them -- for a great many people from Israel had gone over to Asa when they saw thatYahweh his God was with him.	9 Radunò poi tutto Giuda e Beniamino e gli stranieri che eran venuti da Efraim e da Manasse e da Simeone, poichè molti Israeliti si erano rifugiati presso di lui, visto che il Signore Iddio era con lui.
10 They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Venuti adunque in Gerusalemme nel terzo mese dell'anno decimoquinto del regno di Asa,
11 that day sacrificing to Yahweh seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the booty whichthey had brought back.	11 immolarono in quel giorno al Signore settecento buoi e settemila arieti, scelti dal bottino e dalla preda, che avevano fatto.
12 They then made a covenant to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, with al their heart and soul;	12 Secondo l'usanza egli entrò per confermare il patto di cercare il Signore Dio dei loro padri con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima loro.
13 anyone who would not seek Yahweh, God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether high or low, manor woman.	13 «Che se» egli disse «alcuno non cercherà il Signore Dio d'Israele, piccolo o grande ch'egli sia, uomo o donna, morrà».
14 They pledged their oath to Yahweh in ringing tones, with shouts of joy, to the sound of trumpet andhorn;	14 Giurarono allora al Signore a voce altissima con gran gioia, tra lo squillo delle trombe e il suono dei corni;
15 al Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it wholeheartedly, and sought him so earnestlythat he al owed them to find him; Yahweh gave them peace all round.	15 tutti quelli di Giuda vi aggiunsero un'esecrazione, perchè giurarono con tutto il loro cuore; e con tutta la loro volontà lo cercarono e lo trovarono. E il Signore accordò da ogni parte il riposo.
16 King Asa even deprived his mother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made anobscenity for Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity, smashed it and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	16 Il re tolse poi la dignità di regina a Maaca, sua madre, perchè erasi fatta in un boschetto sacro il simulacro di Priapo, che egli distrusse e, ridottolo in polvere, lo bruciò nel torrente Cedron.
17 Though the high places were not abolished in Israel, Asa's heart was loyal throughout his life.	17 Tuttavia rimasero ancora dei luoghi eccelsi in Israele; nondimeno il cuore di Asa fu perfetto durante tutta la sua vita.
18 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels, in theTemple of Yahweh.	18 Tutto ciò che suo padre ed egli avevano promesso con voto al Signore, l'argento, l'oro e la suppellettile varia dei vasi, tutto portò nella casa del Signore.
19 Up to the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign there was no war.	19 E non ci fu più nessuna guerra fino al trentacinquesimo anno del regno di Asa.
