1 The spirit of God then came on Azariah son of Oded;	1 L’Esprit de Dieu s’empara d’Azarias, fils d’Oded.
2 he went out to meet Asa and said, 'Listen to me, Asa, and all you in Judah and in Benjamin: Yahwehwil be with you so long as you are with him. If you seek him, he will let you find him; but if you desert him, he wildesert you.	2 Il sortit au-devant d’Aza et lui dit: “Aza et vous tous, gens de Juda et de Benjamin, écoutez-moi! Yahvé est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui. Si vous le recherchez, il se laissera trouver par vous, mais si vous l’abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
3 For a long time Israel did not have the true God or a teacher-priest or a law,	3 Pendant de longs jours Israël n’avait ni Dieu véritable, ni prêtre pour enseigner, ni Loi.
4 but when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, God of Israel, and sought him, he let them find him.	4 Mais dans sa misère il est revenu vers Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: ils l’ont cherché et il s’est laissé trouver par eux.
5 In those times there was no security for people as they went about their business, but great unrestaffecting the inhabitants of all countries,	5 En ce temps-là il n’y avait pas de sécurité pour voyager, car tous les habitants du pays vivaient sous la menace de la violence.
6 nation being crushed by nation and city by city, since God caused confusion among them by everykind of distress.	6 On se battait nation contre nation, ville contre ville, et Dieu les frappait de toutes sortes de malheurs.
7 So be strong, do not be discouraged, for your deeds wil be rewarded.'	7 Mais vous, tenez bon! Que vos mains ne faiblissent pas, votre peine aura sa récompense.”
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy, he took courage and removed the abominable idolsthroughout the land of Judah and Benjamin as wel as from the towns which he had captured in the highlands ofEphraim, and repaired the altar of Yahweh which stood in front of the portico of Yahweh.	8 En entendant ces paroles et cette prophétie, Aza se décida à enlever les idoles de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin, et dans les villes qu’il avait prises dans la montagne d’Éphraïm. Il restaura l’autel de Yahvé qui se trouvait devant le Vestibule de Yahvé.
9 He summoned al Judah and Benjamin as wel as those Ephraimites, Manassehites and Simeoniteswho had settled with them -- for a great many people from Israel had gone over to Asa when they saw thatYahweh his God was with him.	9 Puis il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et les gens d’Éphraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui habitaient au milieu d’eux, car des Israélites étaient passés en grand nombre de son côté quand ils avaient vu que Yahvé, son Dieu, était avec lui.
10 They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 Le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d’Aza, ils se rassemblèrent à Jérusalem
11 that day sacrificing to Yahweh seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the booty whichthey had brought back.	11 et ils offrirent des sacrifices à Yahvé ce jour-là (700 bœufs et 7 000 moutons pris sur le butin qu’ils avaient ramené).
12 They then made a covenant to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, with al their heart and soul;	12 Ils s’engagèrent par une alliance à rechercher Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme.
13 anyone who would not seek Yahweh, God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether high or low, manor woman.	13 Si quelqu’un, petit ou grand, homme ou femme, ne recherchait pas Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, il serait mis à mort.
14 They pledged their oath to Yahweh in ringing tones, with shouts of joy, to the sound of trumpet andhorn;	14 Ils prêtèrent serment à Yahvé à haute voix et avec des acclamations, au son des trompettes et des cors.
15 al Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it wholeheartedly, and sought him so earnestlythat he al owed them to find him; Yahweh gave them peace all round.	15 Tous les Judéens se réjouirent de ce serment, car ils l’avaient prêté de tout leur cœur et ils cherchaient Dieu sincèrement, c’est pourquoi Yahvé se laissa trouver par eux et leur accorda la paix de tous côtés.
16 King Asa even deprived his mother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made anobscenity for Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity, smashed it and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	16 Le roi Aza retira même la dignité de Grande Dame à sa grand-mère Maaka parce qu’elle avait fait une idole en l’honneur d’Ashéra; Aza brisa cette idole, la réduisit en poudre et la brûla dans la vallée du Cédron.
17 Though the high places were not abolished in Israel, Asa's heart was loyal throughout his life.	17 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas d’Israël; mais durant toute sa vie Aza s’attacha à Yahvé de tout son cœur.
18 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels, in theTemple of Yahweh.	18 Il fit porter dans la Maison de Dieu l’argent, l’or et le mobilier que son père et lui-même avaient consacrés.
19 Up to the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign there was no war.	19 Il n’y eut pas de guerre jusqu’à la trente-cinquième année du règne d’Aza.
