NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 On hearing this, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and went to the Temple of Yahweh.	1 Udita che ebbe la cosa, il re Ezechia si stracciò le vesti, si cinse di sacco ed entrò nel tempio del Signore.
2 He sent Eliakim master of the palace, Shebnah the secretary and the elders of the priests, wearingsackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.	2 Poi inviò il maestro di palazzo Eliakìm, lo scriba Sebna e gli anziani dei sacerdoti, cinti di sacco, dal profeta Isaia, figlio di Amoz.
3 They said to him, 'This is what Hezekiah says, "Today is a day of suffering, of punishment, of disgrace.Children come to birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.	3 Questi gli dissero: "Così parla Ezechia: "Giorno di angoscia, di castigo e di obbrobrio è questo, perché i figli stanno per nascere ma la partoriente è priva di forza!
4 May Yahweh your God hear the words of the cupbearer-in-chief whom his master, the king of Assyria,has sent to insult the living God, and may Yahweh your God punish the words he has heard. Offer your prayerfor the remnant stil remaining." '	4 Che il Signore, tuo Dio, possa aver udito tutte le parole del gran coppiere che il re di Assiria, suo signore, ha mandato per ingiuriare il Dio vivente e punisca a motivo delle parole che il Signore tuo Dio ha udito! Tu pertanto innalza una preghiera in favore del resto che ancora sussiste".
5 King Hezekiah's ministers went to Isaiah,	5 I servi del re Ezechia vennero da Isaia
6 and Isaiah said to them, 'Say to your master, "Yahweh says this: Do not be afraid of the words whichyou have heard or the blasphemies which the king of Assyria's minions have uttered against me.	6 e questi disse loro: "Direte al vostro signore: "Così parla il Signore: Non temere per le parole che hai udito e con le quali i servi del re di Assiria mi hanno oltraggiato.
7 Look, I am going to put a spirit in him and, on the strength of a rumour, he wil go back to his owncountry, and in that country I shall make him fal by the sword." '	7 Ecco, io porrò in lui uno spirito ed egli, udita che avrà una certa notizia, ritornerà al suo paese dove lo farò cadere di spada".
8 The cupbearer turned about and rejoined the king of Assyria, who was then attacking Libnah, as thecupbearer had learnt that the king had already left Lachish	8 Il gran coppiere ritornò e trovò il re di Assiria impegnato in battaglia contro Libna. Aveva infatti udito che il suo re aveva levato il campo da Lachis,
9 on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him.	9 perché era venuto a sapere a proposito di Tiraca, re di Etiopia: "Ecco, è uscito per combattere contro di te". Di nuovo Sennàcherib inviò messaggeri ad Ezechia dicendo:
10 Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 'Tel Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do notlet your God on whom you are relying deceive you with the promise: Jerusalem wil not fal into the king ofAssyria's clutches.	10 "Così direte ad Ezechia, re di Giuda: "Il tuo Dio, in cui tu riponi fiducia, non ti inganni col dirti: `Gerusalemme non verrà data in mano del re di Assiria!'.
11 You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to al the other countries, devoting themto destruction. Are you likely to be saved?	11 Ecco, tu hai udito quello che i re di Assiria hanno fatto a tutti i paesi, votandoli alla distruzione; e tu solo saresti salvato?
12 Did the gods of the nations whom my ancestors devastated save them-Gozan, Haran, Rezeph andthe Edenites who were in Tel Basar?	12 Gli dèi delle genti che i miei padri hanno distrutto hanno forse liberato Gozan, Carran, Rezef e i figli di Eden che abitavano a Telassàr?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Lair, of Sepharvaim, of Hena, of Ivvah?" '	13 Dove sono il re di Camat, il re di Arpad, il re della città di Sefarvàim, di Ena e di Avva?".
14 Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple ofYahweh and spread it out before Yahweh.	14 Ezechia prese la lettera dalla mano dei messaggeri e la lesse. Poi salì al tempio del Signore, l'aprì davanti al Signore
15 Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned onthe winged creatures, you alone are God of al the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth.	15 e pregò al suo cospetto dicendo: "Signore, Dio d'Israele, che siedi sui cherubini, tu solo sei il Dio di tutti i regni della terra, tu solo hai fatto i cieli e la terra.
16 Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib,who has sent to insult the living God.	16 Tendi l'orecchio, o Signore, e ascolta; apri gli occhi, o Signore, e guarda. Ascolta le parole che Sennàcherib ha mandato a dire per insultare il Dio vivente.
17 It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations,	17 E' vero, o Signore, che i re di Assiria hanno distrutto le genti e i loro territori,
18 they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood andstone -- and hence they have destroyed them.	18 hanno dato alle fiamme i loro dèi, perché questi non erano veri dèi, bensì opera delle mani d'uomo, legno o pietra; per questo hanno potuto distruggerli.
19 But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let all the kingdoms of the worldknow that you alone are God, Yahweh.'	19 Ora, o Signore, Dio nostro, salvaci dalle mani di lui; così tutti i regni della terra sapranno che tu solo sei Dio, o Signore!".
20 Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the fol owing message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Ihave heard the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria."	20 Allora Isaia, figlio di Amoz, mandò a dire a Ezechia: "Così parla il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "Ho udito la preghiera che tu mi hai rivolto a motivo di Sennàcherib, re di Assiria.
21 Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him: "She despises you, she scorns you,the virgin daughter of Zion; she tosses her head at you, the daughter of Jerusalem!	21 Questa è la parola che il Signore ha pronunciato contro di lui: Ti disprezza, ti beffeggia la vergine figlia di Sion. Dietro di te scuote il capo la figlia di Gerusalemme.
22 Whom have you insulted, whom have you blasphemed? Against whom raised your voice and liftedyour haughty eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!	22 Chi hai tu insultato e schernito, contro chi hai tu alzata la voce e hai levato i tuoi occhi? Contro il Santo d'Israele!
23 Through your envoys you have insulted the Lord, thinking: With my many chariots I have climbed themountain-tops, the utmost peaks of Lebanon. I have fel ed its mighty cedars, its finest cypresses, have reachedits furthest recesses, its forest garden.	23 Per mezzo dei tuoi messaggeri hai insultato il mio Signore; hai detto: `Con moltitudine di carri sono salito in cima ai monti, sulle ultime cime del Libano. Ho tagliato i suoi cedri più alti, i suoi cipressi più belli. Sono giunto fino al suo rifugio più remoto, nella sua foresta lussureggiante.
24 Yes, I have dug and drunk of foreign waters; under the soles of my feet I have dried up al Egypt'srivers.	24 Io ho scavato e ho bevuto acque straniere, ho disseccato sotto la pianta dei miei piedi tutti i fiumi d'Egitto'.
25 "Do you hear? Long ago I prepared this, from days of old I actual y planned it, now I carry it out. Youwere to lay walled cities in heaps of ruins;	25 Non l'hai tu forse udito? Da tempo l'ho preparato, dai tempi antichi l'ho progettato ed ora lo realizzo. Il tuo destino fu quello di ridurre in mucchi di rovine città fortificate.
26 that was why their inhabitants, feeble of hand, were dismayed and discomfited, were weak as grass,were frail as plants, were like grass of housetop and meadow under the east wind.	26 I loro abitanti, stremati di forze, furono spaventati e confusi, divennero come l'erba del campo, come le foglioline dell'erbetta, come l'erba dei tetti e il maggese dinanzi al vento orientale.
27 But whether you stand up or you sit down, whether you go out or you come in, I know it.	27 Innanzi a me sei quando ti alzi e quando siedi; io ti conosco quando esci e quando entri.
28 Because you have raved against me, and your arrogance has reached my ears, I shal put a hookthrough your nostrils and a muzzle on your lips, and make you return by the road by which you came.	28 Poiché il tuo furore è contro di me e la tua arroganza mi è giunta alle orecchie, porrò il mio anello alle tue narici, il mio morso alle tue labbra, e ti ricondurrò per la strada per cui sei venuto!".
29 "And this wil be the sign for you: this year wil be eaten the self-sown grain, next year what sprouts inthe fallow; but in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.	29 Questo sarà il segno per te: quest'anno si mangerà il raccolto cresciuto spontaneamente, l'anno prossimo quello che vi ricrescerà, ma il terzo anno seminerete e mieterete, pianterete vigne e ne mangerete i frutti.
30 The surviving remnant of the House of Judah wil bring forth new roots below and fruits above;	30 Il resto superstite della casa di Giuda getterà nuove radici in basso e farà frutti in alto,
31 for a remnant wil issue from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. Yahweh Sabaoth's jealouslove wil accomplish this.	31 perché da Gerusalemme uscirà un resto, e superstiti dal monte Sion. Lo zelo del Signore degli eserciti farà questo!
32 "This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria: "He wil not enter this city, wil shoot noarrow at it, confront it with no shield, throw up no earthwork against it.	32 Perciò così parla il Signore al re di Assiria: "Egli non entrerà in questa città né vi scoccherà una freccia; non l'affronterà con lo scudo né alzerà contro di essa un terrapieno.
33 By the road by which he came, by that he wil return; he wil not enter this city, declares Yahweh.	33 Per la strada onde è venuto se ne ritornerà, né entrerà in questa città, oracolo del Signore!
34 I shal protect this city and save it for my sake and my servant David's sake." '	34 Io proteggerò questa città e la salverò per amor mio e per amore di Davide, mio servo".
35 That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousandmen in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses.	35 Ora, in quella notte, l'angelo del Signore uscì e colpì nell'accampamento degli Assiri centottantacinquemila uomini. Quando gli altri si levarono al mattino, ecco che quelli erano tutti cadaveri.
36 Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.	36 Allora Sennàcherib, re di Assiria, levò il campo e partì per far ritorno a Ninive dove rimase.
37 One day when he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech andSharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped into the territory of Ararat. His son Esarhaddonsucceeded him.	37 Mentre egli si trovava in adorazione nel tempio del suo dio Nisroch, i suoi figli Adram-Mèlech e Sarèzer lo uccisero di spada e si rifugiarono nel paese di Ararat. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Assarhàddon.
