1 On hearing this, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and went to the Temple of Yahweh.	1 Tali cose avendo udite il re Ezechia, si stracciò le sue vesti, e si coperse di sacco, e se n'andò alla casa del Signore,
2 He sent Eliakim master of the palace, Shebnah the secretary and the elders of the priests, wearingsackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.	2 E mandò Eliacim maggiordomo, e Sobna dottor della legge, e i più vecchi sacerdoti coperti di sacco ad Isaia figliuolo di Amos, profeta:
3 They said to him, 'This is what Hezekiah says, "Today is a day of suffering, of punishment, of disgrace.Children come to birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.	3 I quali gli dissero: Ezechia dice cosi: Giorno di tribolazione, e di minaccia, e di bestemmia egli è questo giorno: i figliuoli si son condotti fino al parto, ma la partoriente è priva di forze.
4 May Yahweh your God hear the words of the cupbearer-in-chief whom his master, the king of Assyria,has sent to insult the living God, and may Yahweh your God punish the words he has heard. Offer your prayerfor the remnant stil remaining." '	4 Forse il Signore Dio tuo avrà posto mente a tutti i discorsi di Rabsace mandato dal re degli Assiri suo signore ad oltraggiare il Dio vivente, e a vituperarlo colle parole, le quali il Signore Dio tuo ha sentite: fa adunque orazione per gli avanzi, che restano.
5 King Hezekiah's ministers went to Isaiah,	5 Andarono adunque i servi del re Ezechia a trovare Isaia.
6 and Isaiah said to them, 'Say to your master, "Yahweh says this: Do not be afraid of the words whichyou have heard or the blasphemies which the king of Assyria's minions have uttered against me.	6 E Isaia disse loro: Voi direte al signor vostro: Queste cose dice il Signore: Non ti impaurire per le parole, che hai sentite, colle quali i servi del re Assiro han bestemmiato contro di me.
7 Look, I am going to put a spirit in him and, on the strength of a rumour, he wil go back to his owncountry, and in that country I shall make him fal by the sword." '	7 Ecco, che io manderò a lui uno spirito, ed egli udirà una nuova, e se ne tornerà al suo paese, e io lo farò cadere di spada nel suo paese.
8 The cupbearer turned about and rejoined the king of Assyria, who was then attacking Libnah, as thecupbearer had learnt that the king had already left Lachish	8 Frattanto Rabsace tornò al re degli Assiri, e trovollo che assediava Lobna: perocché avea già saputo, com' egli si era partito da Lachis.
9 on hearing that Tirhakah king of Cush was on his way to attack him.	9 E (Sennacherib ) avendo udito come Tharaca re di Etiopia si era mosso per venir con lui a battaglia, nel movere il campo contro di lui, mandò ambasciadori ad Ezechia, e disse loro:
10 Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 'Tel Hezekiah king of Judah this, "Do notlet your God on whom you are relying deceive you with the promise: Jerusalem wil not fal into the king ofAssyria's clutches.	10 Così direte ad Ezechia re di Giubda: Non ti lasciar sedurre dal Dio tuo, in cui tu hai fidanza, e non dire: Gerusalemme non sarà data in poter del re degli Assiri:
11 You have learnt by now what the kings of Assyria have done to al the other countries, devoting themto destruction. Are you likely to be saved?	11 Perocché tu hai sentito quello, che han fatto i re degli Assiri in tutti agli altri paesi, e come gli han devastati: sarai dunque tu il solo, che potrai liberartene
12 Did the gods of the nations whom my ancestors devastated save them-Gozan, Haran, Rezeph andthe Edenites who were in Tel Basar?	12 Forse che gli dei delle nazioni ne han liberata alcuna di quelle, che furono sterminate da' padri miei, viene a dire, Gozan, e Haran, e Reseph, e i figliuoli di Eden, che erano a Thelassar?
13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of Lair, of Sepharvaim, of Hena, of Ivvah?" '	13 Dov'è il re di Emath, e il re di Arphad, e il re della città di Sepharvaim, e di Ana, e di Ava?
14 Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers' hands and read it; he then went up to the Temple ofYahweh and spread it out before Yahweh.	14 Ricevuta adunque Ezechia la lettera pelle mani degli ambasciadori, e avendola letta, se n'andò al tempio del Signore, è la distese dinanzi al Signore;
15 Hezekiah said this prayer in the presence of Yahweh, 'Yahweh Sabaoth, God of Israel, enthroned onthe winged creatures, you alone are God of al the kingdoms of the world, you made heaven and earth.	15 E fece orazione nel cospetto di lui, e disse: Signore Dio d'Israele, che siedi sopra i Cherubini, tu sei il solo Dio di tutti i re della terra: tu facesti il cielo, e la terra:
16 Give ear, Yahweh, and listen; open your eyes, Yahweh, and see! Hear the words of Sennacherib,who has sent to insult the living God.	16 Porgi l'orecchio, e ascolta: apri, o Signore, gli occhi tuoi, e mira: ascolta tutto quel, che dice Sennacherib, il quale ha mandato ad oltraggiare tra noi il Dio vivo.
17 It is true, Yahweh, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations,	17 Egli è vero, o Signore, che i re degli Assiri han desolate le genti, e tutte le terre loro:
18 they have thrown their gods on the fire, for these were not gods but human artefacts -- wood andstone -- and hence they have destroyed them.	18 E han gettati nel fuoco gli dei loro: perocché eglino non erano dei, ma opere delle mani degli uomini fatte di legno, e di sasso; ed ei le distrussero.
19 But now, Yahweh our God, save us from his clutches, I beg you, and let all the kingdoms of the worldknow that you alone are God, Yahweh.'	19 Adesso pertanto, o Signore Dio nostro, salvaci dalle mani di costui, affinchè i regni tutti della terra conoscano, come tu se' il Signore, il solo
20 Isaiah son of Amoz then sent the fol owing message to Hezekiah, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "Ihave heard the prayer which you have addressed to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria."	20 E Isaia figliuolo di Amos mandò a dire ad Ezechia: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Ho udito la preghiera, che tu mi hai fatta riguardo a Sennacherib re degli Assiri.
21 Here is the pronouncement which Yahweh has made about him: "She despises you, she scorns you,the virgin daughter of Zion; she tosses her head at you, the daughter of Jerusalem!	21 Ecco quello, che il Signore ha detto di lui: Ella ti ha disprezzato, e ti ha schernito la vergine figlia di Sion: dietro a te ella ha scosso il capo la figliuola di Gerusalemme.
22 Whom have you insulted, whom have you blasphemed? Against whom raised your voice and liftedyour haughty eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!	22 Chi hai tu dunque oltraggiato, e chi hai tu bestemmiato? contro di chi hai tu alzata la voce, e levati in alto i tuoi occhi? contro il Santo d'Israele.
23 Through your envoys you have insulted the Lord, thinking: With my many chariots I have climbed themountain-tops, the utmost peaks of Lebanon. I have fel ed its mighty cedars, its finest cypresses, have reachedits furthest recesses, its forest garden.	23 Per bocca de' servi tuoi hai vituperato il Signore, e hai detto: Colla moltitudine de' miei cocchi son io salito sui monti eccelsi, sulle cime del Libano, e ho troncati gli alti suoi cedri, e i suoi abeti migliori. E sono arrivato fino alla sua vetta, e ai boschi del suo Carmelo.
24 Yes, I have dug and drunk of foreign waters; under the soles of my feet I have dried up al Egypt'srivers.	24 Io gli ho atterrati. Io ho bevute le acque altrui, e nel mio passaggio ho asciugate tutte le acque arginate.
25 "Do you hear? Long ago I prepared this, from days of old I actual y planned it, now I carry it out. Youwere to lay walled cities in heaps of ruins;	25 Non hai tu sentito dire quel, ch'io feci a principio? Fin dagli antichi giorni io ordii questo, e ora lo eseguisco: le città fatte forti dai lor combattenti son ridotte come colline deserte.
26 that was why their inhabitants, feeble of hand, were dismayed and discomfited, were weak as grass,were frail as plants, were like grass of housetop and meadow under the east wind.	26 E coloro, che le abitano, imbelli bi braccio, tremarono, e si sbigottirono, diventarono come il fieno nel campo, e come l'erba verde dei tetti, la quale si secca prima di giungere a maturità.
27 But whether you stand up or you sit down, whether you go out or you come in, I know it.	27 Io previdi il tuo stare, e l'andare, il venire, e la strada, che tu facesti, e il tuo furore contro di me.
28 Because you have raved against me, and your arrogance has reached my ears, I shal put a hookthrough your nostrils and a muzzle on your lips, and make you return by the road by which you came.	28 Tu hai insolentito contro di me, e la tua superbia si è fatta sentire alle mie orecchie: io adunque metterò un anello alle tu narici, e un morso alla tua bocca, e ti rimenerò indietro per la strada, per cui se' venuto.
29 "And this wil be the sign for you: this year wil be eaten the self-sown grain, next year what sprouts inthe fallow; but in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.	29 Or a te, Ezechia, io do questo segno: Mangia quest'anno quello, che troverai: il secondo anno poi, quello, che nascerà da se stesso; ma il terzo anno seminate, e mietete, piantate le vigne, e mangiatene il frutto.
30 The surviving remnant of the House of Judah wil bring forth new roots below and fruits above;	30 E tutto quello, che resterà della casa di Giuda, getterà sue radici allingiù, e fruttificherà all'insù:
31 for a remnant wil issue from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. Yahweh Sabaoth's jealouslove wil accomplish this.	31 Perocché da Gerusalemme usciranno fuora gli avanzi, e dal monte di Sion, gente, che avrà salute: lo zelo del Signore degli eserciti farà questo.
32 "This, then, is what Yahweh says about the king of Assyria: "He wil not enter this city, wil shoot noarrow at it, confront it with no shield, throw up no earthwork against it.	32 Per la qual cosa ecco quello, che del re degli Assiri dice il Signore: Egli non porrà il piede in questa città, e non tirerà contro di lei una freccia, né (il soldato) sotto lo scudo la assalirà, né egli la circonderà di trinciera.
33 By the road by which he came, by that he wil return; he wil not enter this city, declares Yahweh.	33 Ei se ne tornerà per la strada, onde è venuto, e non porrà piede in questa città, dice il Signore.
34 I shal protect this city and save it for my sake and my servant David's sake." '	34 Io proteggerò questa città, e la salverò per amore di me, e per amore di Davidde mio servo.
35 That same night the angel of Yahweh went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousandmen in the Assyrian camp. In the early morning when it was time to get up, there they lay, so many corpses.	35 Or egli avvenne, che quella notte venne l'Angelo del Signore, e uccise nel campo degli Assiri cento ottantacinque mila uomini. Ed essendosi (il re) levato di gran mattino, vide i corpi morti, e si ritirò, e se n'andò,
36 Sennacherib struck camp and left; he returned home and stayed in Nineveh.	36 E tornò Sennacherib re degli Assiri a Ninive, e ivi si fermò.
37 One day when he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech andSharezer struck him down with the sword and escaped into the territory of Ararat. His son Esarhaddonsucceeded him.	37 E mentre egli adorava nel tempio il suo dio Nesroch, i suoi figliuoli Adramelech, e Sarasar lo uccisero a colpi di spada, e fuggirono nell'Armenia, e succedette a lui nel regno Asarhaddon suo figliuolo.
