2 Kings 10

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 There were seventy of Ahab's sons in Samaria. Jehu sent to Samaria, to the authorities of the city, tothe elders and to the guardians of Ahab's children. He said,	1 Acab aveva in Samaria settanta figli. Ieu perciò scrisse delle lettere e poi le inviò a Samaria ai capi della città, agli anziani e ai tutori dei figli di Acab. Vi si diceva:
2 'Now, when this letter reaches you, you have your master's sons with you; you also have chariots andhorses, a fortified city and weapons.	2 "Ora, quando vi giungerà questa lettera, avete con voi i figli del vostro signore, avete i carri e i cavalli, le città fortificate e le armi.
3 See which of your master's sons is the best and worthiest, put him on his father's throne and fight for your master's dynasty!'	3 Vedete tra i figli del vostro signore chi è il migliore e il più degno, ponetelo sul trono di suo padre, e combattete per la casa del vostro signore".
4 They were utterly terrified. 'We have seen how the two kings could not stand up to him,' they said, 'sohow could we?'	4 Ma quelli ebbero gran paura e dissero: "Ecco, due re non han potuto tenergli fronte; come potremo farlo noi?".
5 Consequently the master of the palace, the governor of the city, the elders and the guardians sentword to Jehu, 'We are your servants. We shal do whatever you order us. We shall not proclaim a king; act asyou think best.'	5 Perciò il sovrintendente del palazzo, il governatore della città, gli anziani e i tutori mandarono a dire a Ieu: "Noi siamo tuoi servi; faremo tutto quello che ci ordinerai, ma non proclameremo re nessuno: fa' quello che parrà bene ai tuoi occhi".
6 Jehu then wrote them a second letter. He said, 'If you are for me and if you are prepared to acceptorders from me, take the heads of the men of your master's family and come to me at Jezreel by this timetomorrow.' (There were seventy of Ahab's sons being educated there by the leading men of the city.)	6 Allora Ieu scrisse loro una seconda lettera in cui si diceva: "Se siete con me e volete ascoltare la mia voce, prendete i capi dei figli del vostro signore e, domani a quest'ora, venite da me a Izreèl". Ora i figli del re erano settanta e ciascuno di essi stava con i grandi della città che li allevavano.
7 When this letter reached them, they took the king's sons and butchered al seventy of them, put theirheads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel.	7 Come la lettera giunse a loro, essi presero i figli del re, li sgozzarono tutti e settanta, posero le loro teste in ceste e le mandarono a Ieu in Izreèl.
8 The messenger came and told Jehu, 'They have brought the heads of the king's sons.' 'Leave them intwo heaps at the entrance to the gate until morning,' he replied.	8 Il messaggero venne ad annunziare a Ieu: "Hanno portato le teste dei figli del re!". Questi disse: "Mettetele in due mucchi all'ingresso della porta fino a domani mattina!".
9 When morning came, he went out and, standing, said to all the people, 'No guilt attaches to you! I didindeed plot against my master and have kil ed him; but what about al these? Who struck them?	9 Al mattino egli uscì e, stando in piedi, disse a tutto il popolo: "Voi non siete colpevoli! Ecco, sono stato io che ho cospirato contro il mio signore e l'ho assassinato, ma chi ha ucciso tutti costoro?
10 Know, then, that nothing will fail to be fulfil ed of the prophecy uttered by Yahweh against the Houseof Ahab; Yahweh has done what he said through his servant Elijah.'	10 Sappiate dunque che niente cadrà in terra della parola che il Signore ha pronunciato contro la casa di Acab: il Signore infatti ha realizzato quello che aveva detto per mezzo del suo servo Elia".
11 Jehu then kil ed every member of the House of Ahab surviving in Jezreel, all his leading men, hisclose friends, his priests; he did not leave a single one alive.	11 Ieu poi uccise tutti quelli che erano rimasti della casa di Acab a Izreèl, tutti i suoi grandi, i suoi familiari, i suoi sacerdoti, cosicché non ne risparmiò neppure uno.
12 Jehu then set out for Samaria. As he was on his way, at Beth-Eked of the Shepherds,	12 Quindi si levò e si diresse a Samaria. Mentre andava per la strada, a Bet-Eked dei Pastori
13 he met the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah. 'Who are you?' he asked. 'We are Ahaziah's brothers,'they replied, 'and we are on our way to pay our respects to the king's sons and the queen mother's sons.'	13 Ieu trovò i fratelli di Acazia, re di Giuda, ai quali domandò: "Chi siete?". Quelli risposero: "Siamo fratelli di Acazia e siamo discesi a salutare i figli del re e i figli della regina".
14 'Take them alive,' he said. They took them alive, and he slaughtered them at the storage-wel of Beth-Eked, forty-two of them; he did not spare a single one.	14 Allora ordinò: "Prendeteli vivi". Li presero vivi e li sgozzò presso il pozzo di Bet-Eked, in numero di quarantadue; non ne risparmiò neppure uno.
15 Leaving there, he came on Jehonadab son of Rechab who was on his way to meet him. He greetedhim and said, 'Is your heart true to mine, as my heart is to yours?' Jehonadab replied, 'Yes.' 'If so,' Jehu said,'give me your hand.' Jehonadab gave him his hand, and Jehu took him up beside him in his chariot.	15 Partito di là, trovò Ionadàb, figlio di Recàb, che gli veniva incontro. Lo salutò e gli disse: "Il tuo cuore è sincero come il mio cuore lo è con il tuo?". Ionadàb rispose: "Sì!". "Se lo è, dammi la tua mano". Quello gliela diede e allora Ieu lo fece salire con sé sul carro
16 'Come with me,' he said, 'and witness my zeal for Yahweh,' and took him along in his chariot.	16 e gli disse: "Vieni con me e vedrai il mio zelo per il Signore". Lo portò con sé sul suo carro.
17 When he entered Samaria, he kil ed al the survivors of Ahab's family there; he destroyed it, asYahweh had told Elijah it would happen.	17 Arrivato a Samaria, uccise tutti quelli ch'erano rimasti della casa di Acab in Samaria fino alla sua distruzione, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto a Elia.
18 Then Jehu assembled al the people. 'Ahab did Baal some smal service,' he said, 'but Jehu wil dohim a great one.	18 Ieu radunò tutto il popolo e gli disse: "Acab ha adorato poco Baal, ma Ieu lo adorerà molto di più!
19 Now cal me al the prophets of Baal and al his priests. Not one is to be absent: I have a greatsacrifice to offer to Baal. If anyone is absent, he wil forfeit his life.' This was a trick on Jehu's part to destroy thedevotees of Baal.	19 Ora chiamatemi tutti i profeti di Baal e tutti i suoi sacerdoti; nessuno manchi, perché devo offrire un grande sacrificio a Baal. Chiunque mancherà non rimarrà in vita!". Ieu però agiva con astuzia, per sterminare gli adoratori di Baal.
20 'Summon a sacred assembly for Baal,' he commanded; and they summoned it.	20 Poi Ieu ordinò: "Convocate una santa assemblea in onore di Baal". Essi la convocarono.
21 Jehu sent messengers throughout Israel, and all the devotees of Baal arrived, not a man was left whodid not attend. They crowded into the temple of Baal until it was full from wal to wall.	21 Ieu mandò messaggeri per tutto Israele e tutti gli adoratori di Baal vennero senza eccezione alcuna e si presentarono al tempio di Baal che fu pieno da un capo all'altro.
22 Jehu then said to the keeper of the wardrobe, 'Bring out vestments for al the devotees of Baal'; hebrought out the vestments for them.	22 Allora ordinò al guardiano delle vesti: "Tira fuori le vesti per tutti gli adoratori di Baal". Quello tirò fuori le vesti per loro.
23 Jehu then went into the temple of Baal with Jehonadab son of Rechab and said to Baal's devotees,'Make quite sure that there are no devotees of Yahweh in here with you, but only devotees of Baal.'	23 Allora Ieu, in compagnia di Ionadàb, figlio di Recàb, entrò nel tempio di Baal e disse agli adoratori di Baal: "Assicuratevi che qui, in mezzo a voi, non ci siano adoratori del Signore, bensì soltanto adoratori di Baal".
24 He then proceeded to present sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had stationed eighty of hismen outside, having said, 'Whoever lets one of the people go whom I am now putting within your clutches, wilpay for it with his life.'	24 Poi si accostarono per compiere i sacrifici e gli olocausti. Ieu però aveva collocato fuori ottanta uomini ai quali aveva detto: "Se qualcuno di voi lascerà scappare uno solo degli uomini che io vi metto nelle mani, pagherà con la vita".
25 When he had finished making the burnt offering, he gave the order to the guards and equerries, 'Goin, strike them down! Let no one out!' The guards and equerries went in, putting everyone to the sword al theway to the sanctuary of Baal's temple.	25 Terminato che ebbe l'olocausto, Ieu ordinò alle guardie e agli scudieri: "Andate ed uccideteli! Nessuno scampi!". Quelli li passarono a fil di spada. Le guardie e gli scudieri arrivarono fino alla cella del tempio di Baal.
26 They took the sacred pole out of Baal's temple and burned it.	26 Portarono fuori la stele del tempio di Baal e la bruciarono.
27 They demolished Baal's image and demolished Baal's temple too, making it into a latrine, which it stilis today.	27 Demolirono l'altare di Baal; demolirono anche il tempio di Baal e vi posero delle latrine che restano fino ad oggi.
28 Thus Jehu rid Israel of Baal.	28 Così Ieu sradicò Baal da Israele.
29 Even so, Jehu did not give up the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel, the goldencalves of Bethel and Dan.	29 Tuttavia non abbandonò i peccati che Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt, aveva fatto commettere a Israele, cioè i torelli d'oro che si trovavano in Betel e in Dan.
30 Yahweh said to Jehu, 'Since you have done wel in carrying out what pleases me, and have doneeverything I required to be done to the House of Ahab, your sons wil occupy the throne of Israel down to thefourth generation.'	30 Il Signore disse a Ieu: "Dal momento che hai agito bene, facendo ciò che è retto ai miei occhi, e hai fatto della casa di Acab tutto quello che avevo in cuore, i tuoi figli siederanno fino alla quarta generazione sul trono d'Israele".
31 Jehu, however, did not faithful y and wholeheartedly fol ow the law of Yahweh, God of Israel; he didnot give up the sins into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel.	31 Ma Ieu non si curò di osservare di tutto cuore la legge del Signore, Dio d'Israele, né abbandonò i peccati che Geroboamo aveva fatto commettere ad Israele.
32 At that time Yahweh began to whittle Israel down, and Hazael defeated the Israelites throughout theterritory east of the Jordan:	32 In quel tempo il Signore incominciò a ridurre il territorio di Israele. Infatti Cazaèl colpì gli Israeliti su tutti i confini,
33 the whole territory of Gilead -- of the Gadites, the Reubenites and the Manassehites -- from Aroer onthe River Arnon: Gilead and Bashan.	33 dal Giordano verso oriente, tolse loro tutta la regione di Gàlaad, di Gad, di Ruben e di Manasse, da Aroer, che si trova sul fiume Arnon, fino al Gàlaad e al Basan.
34 The rest of the history of Jehu, his entire career, al his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?	34 Le altre gesta di Ieu e tutte le sue azioni non sono forse descritte nel libro degli Annali dei re d'Israele?
35 Then he fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in Samaria; his son Jehoahaz succeeded him.	35 Ieu s'addormentò assieme ai suoi antenati e fu sepolto a Samaria. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ioacaz.
36 Jehu's reign over Israel in Samaria lasted twenty-eight years.	36 Il periodo di tempo in cui Ieu regnò su Israele, a Samaria, fu di ventotto anni.
