1 Kings 8

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Solomon then summoned the elders of Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahwehup from the City of David, that is, Zion.	1 Allora Salomone convocò gli anziani d'Israele a Gerusalemme per trasportare dalla Città di Davide, cioè da Sion, l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore.
2 Al the men of Israel assembled round King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, at the time of the feast(that is, the seventh month).	2 Tutti gli uomini d'Israele si radunarono presso il re Salomone, per la festa della luna di Etanim, ch'è il settimo mese.
3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark	3 Venuti dunque tutti gli anziani d'Israele, i sacerdoti presero l'arca,
4 and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils which were in the Tent.	4 la tenda del convegno e tutte le suppellettili del santuario che erano in essa.
5 King Solomon and al Israel, present with him before the ark, sacrificed countless, innumerable sheepand oxen.	5 Il re Salomone e tutta la comunità d'Israele, che s'era radunata presso di lui, sacrificavano davanti all'arca pecore e buoi in quantità incalcolabile.
6 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures	6 I sacerdoti frattanto portarono l'arca dell'alleanza del Signore al suo posto, nella cella del tempio, cioè nel santo dei santi, sotto le ali dei cherubini.
7 for the winged creatures spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy overthe ark and its shafts.	7 I cherubini infatti stendevano le ali sul luogo dell'arca e dall'alto ricoprivano l'arca con le sue stanghe.
8 These were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts could be seen from the Holy Place in front ofthe Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are stil there today.	8 Queste erano così lunghe che le loro estremità si potevano vedere dall'aula antistante alla cella, non però di fuori. Lì sono rimaste fino ad oggi.
9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, thetablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.	9 Nell'arca non c'era nulla, eccetto le due tavole di pietra che Mosè vi aveva depositato all'Oreb, cioè le tavole dell'alleanza che il Signore aveva sancito con i figli d'Israele nel loro esodo dal paese d'Egitto.
10 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud fil ed the Temple of Yahweh,	10 Quando i sacerdoti stavano uscendo dal santuario, una nube riempì il tempio del Signore
11 and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of Yahweh.	11 e i sacerdoti non poterono rimanervi per compiere le loro funzioni a causa della nube, perché la gloria del Signore riempiva il suo tempio.
12 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud.	12 Allora Salomone disse: "Il Signore ha deciso di abitare nella densa nube;
13 I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	13 perciò io ti ho edificato un'eccelsa dimora, un luogo dove tu risieda per sempre".
14 The king then turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	14 Poi il re si voltò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele che se ne stava in piedi.
15 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promised withhis mouth to my father David, when he said,	15 Disse: "Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele che ha promesso di sua bocca a Davide mio padre e ha compiuto di sua mano quanto aveva promesso:
16 "From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, tohave a temple built where my name should be; but I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	16 "Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dall'Egitto non ho scelto nessuna città fra tutte le tribù d'Israele per edificare un tempio in cui risieda il mio nome, bensì ho scelto Davide perché guidi il mio popolo Israele".
17 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	17 Ora, Davide mio padre aveva intenzione di edificare un tempio al nome del Signore, Dio d'Israele;
18 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, andin this you have done wel ;	18 ma il Signore disse a Davide mio padre: "Tu hai deciso di costruire un tempio al mio nome, e hai fatto bene;
19 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	19 però a costruirlo non sarai tu bensì tuo figlio, uscito dai tuoi lombi; egli edificherà il tempio al mio nome".
20 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	20 Il Signore ha dunque realizzato la promessa che aveva pronunciato: io sono succeduto a Davide mio padre, mi sono seduto sul trono d'Israele come il Signore aveva detto e ho edificato il tempio al nome del Signore, Dio d'Israele.
21 and in it I have made a place for the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh which he made with ourancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.'	21 Là ho fissato un posto per l'arca nella quale si trova l'alleanza che il Signore ha concluso con i nostri padri quando li fece uscire dalla terra d'Egitto".
22 Then, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, Solomon stood facing the altar of Yahweh and,stretching out his hands towards heaven,	22 Poi Salomone si pose davanti all'altare del Signore, in presenza di tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo
23 said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, as loyal tothe covenant and faithful in love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	23 e disse: "Signore, Dio d'Israele, non c'è alcun Dio simile a te né lassù nei cieli né quaggiù sulla terra! Tu che mantieni l'alleanza e la benevolenza verso i tuoi servi quando essi camminano con tutto il loro cuore alla tua presenza,
24 You have kept the promise you made to your servant, my father David, as you promised him youwould. Today you have carried it out by your power.	24 hai mantenuto la promessa fatta al tuo servo Davide mio padre e oggi hai compiuto con la tua mano ciò che avevi promesso con la tua bocca.
25 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your sons are carefulhow they behave, walking before me as you yourself have done."	25 E ora Signore, Dio d'Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide mio padre ciò che gli hai promesso dicendo: "Non ti mancherà giammai un discendente che stia alla mia presenza, seduto sul trono d'Israele, purché i tuoi figli conservino la loro condotta e camminino alla mia presenza come hai fatto tu".
26 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	26 Orbene, Dio d'Israele, si realizzi la parola che hai detto al tuo servo Davide mio padre.
27 Yet wil God real y live with human beings on earth? Why, the heavens, the highest of the heavens,cannot contain you. How much less this temple built by me!	27 Ma veramente Dio abita sulla terra? Ecco: i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non ti possono contenere; quanto meno lo potrà questo tempio che ho costruito!
28 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you today:	28 Tu però volgiti propizio alla preghiera e alla supplica del tuo servo, o Signore mio Dio, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza oggi dinanzi a te!
29 day and night may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place of which you have said, "My namewil be there." Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	29 Che i tuoi occhi siano aperti notte e giorno su questo tempio, su questo luogo di cui hai detto: "Lì sarà il mio nome"; ascolta la preghiera che il tuo servo ti innalza in questo luogo.
30 'Listen to the entreaty of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place, listenfrom the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	30 Ascolta dunque la supplica del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele, quando pregheranno in questo luogo, ascolta nel luogo della tua dimora, nel cielo, ascolta e perdona!
31 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear an oath herebefore your altar in this Temple,	31 Se qualcuno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo e, dopo che gli sarà imposto un giuramento imprecatorio, verrà a giurare dinanzi al tuo altare in questo tempio,
32 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and do justice between your servants:condemning the guilty one by making him suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him ashis uprightness deserves.	32 tu ascolta dal cielo e agisci, fa' giustizia con i tuoi servi condannando l'empio, con il far ricadere sul suo capo la sua condotta, e dichiarando giusto l'innocente col rendergli secondo la sua giustizia.
33 'When your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favours in this Temple,	33 Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà battuto davanti al nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, se farà ritorno a te e darà lode al tuo nome, ti pregherà e supplicherà in questo tempio,
34 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bringthem back to the country which you gave to their ancestors.	34 tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele e riconducilo nel paese che hai donato ai suoi padri.
35 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	35 Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e non ci sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, se ti pregheranno in questo luogo, loderanno il tuo nome e si ritrarranno dal loro peccato perché li hai afflitti,
36 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and yourpeople Israel -- for you are constantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain onyour country, which you have given to your people as their heritage.	36 tu ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la buona via per cui dovranno camminare e invia la pioggia sulla terra donata in eredità al tuo popolo.
37 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to one of their gates; should there be any plague or any disease:	37 Quando la carestia, la peste, il carbonchio e la ruggine colpiranno il paese, le locuste e i bruchi lo invaderanno, il nemico stringerà d'assedio una delle sue porte e scoppierà un flagello o un'epidemia qualsiasi,
38 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual aware of a particular affliction: when that personstretches out the hands towards this Temple,	38 se qualcuno del tuo popolo Israele, avvertendo i rimorsi della propria coscienza, innalzerà una preghiera o una supplica e stenderà le mani verso questo tempio,
39 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in the heart, deal witheach as their conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in every human heart-	39 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, perdona e agisci rendendo a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, perché tu conosci il suo cuore; tu solo infatti conosci il cuore di tutti i figli dell'uomo.
40 so that they may reverence you throughout their lives in the country which you gave to our ancestors.	40 Così essi ti temeranno per tutti i giorni che vivranno sulla terra che hai donato ai nostri padri.
41 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour name-	41 Persino lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a causa del tuo nome --
42 for they too wil hear of your name, of your mighty hand and outstretched arm -- if a foreigner comesand prays in this Temple,	42 giacché si udrà parlare del tuo grande nome e della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio teso --, verrà per pregare in questo tempio,
43 listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al the peoplesof the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you and know that this Temple,which I have built, bears your name.	43 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, e concedi ciò che lo straniero ti domanda, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome, ti temano come fa il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo vero nome è stato invocato su questo tempio che io ho edificato.
44 'If your people go out to war against the enemy, on whatever missions you send them, and they pray toYahweh, turning towards the city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	44 Se il tuo popolo muoverà guerra contro i suoi nemici, seguendo le vie per cui l'hai mandato, e pregherà il Signore rivolto verso la città da te scelta e verso il tempio da me edificato al tuo nome,
45 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	45 tu ascolta dal cielo la sua preghiera e la sua supplica e fa' giustizia.
46 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a hostile country, be it far away or near,	46 Se peccheranno contro di te, poiché non c'è uomo che non pecchi, e tu, sdegnato contro di loro, li abbandonerai in balia del nemico e i loro deportatori li deporteranno nel paese del nemico, lontano o vicino;
47 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and repent andentreat you in the country of their captors, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted perversely and wickedly,"	47 se rientreranno in se stessi nella terra dove furono deportati, se si convertiranno e ti supplicheranno nella terra dei loro deportatori dicendo: "Abbiamo peccato e commesso iniquità, siamo colpevoli";
48 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of the enemies who have taken themcaptive, and pray to you, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towards the city whichyou have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	48 se si convertiranno a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nella terra dei loro nemici che li hanno deportati e ti pregheranno rivolti verso la terra che donasti ai loro padri, verso la città da te scelta e verso il tempio da me edificato al tuo nome,
49 listen to their prayer and their entreaty from the place where you reside in heaven, uphold their case,	49 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica; fa' loro giustizia,
50 forgive your people for having sinned against you and for al the crimes against you of which they havebeen guilty, and allow them to arouse the pity of their captors so that these may have pity on them:	50 perdona ai membri del tuo popolo, che hanno peccato contro di te, tutte le ribellioni che hanno commesso contro di te e fa' che trovino compassione presso i loro deportatori affinché questi usino loro clemenza,
51 for they are your people and your heritage whom you brought out of Egypt, that iron foundry!	51 perché essi sono il tuo popolo e la tua eredità, coloro che hai tratto fuori dall'Egitto, di mezzo al crogiolo di ferro.
52 'May your eyes be open to the entreaty of your servant and the entreaty of your people Israel, to listento them, whatever they ask of you.	52 I tuoi occhi siano aperti alla supplica del tuo servo e alla supplica del tuo popolo Israele per esaudirli in tutto quello che ti chiedono,
53 For you it was who set them apart from al the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declaredthrough your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.'	53 poiché tu li hai separati quale tua eredità da tutti i popoli della terra, conforme a quel che dicesti per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè, quando facesti uscire dall'Egitto i nostri padri, o Signore Dio".
54 When Solomon had finished offering to Yahweh this whole prayer and entreaty, he rose from where hewas kneeling with hands stretched out towards heaven before the altar of Yahweh,	54 Quando Salomone ebbe terminata questa preghiera e supplica al Signore, si alzò davanti all'altare del Signore: stava infatti inginocchiato, con le mani tese verso il cielo.
55 and stood upright. And in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel.	55 Stando in piedi, benedisse ad alta voce tutta l'assemblea d'Israele:
56 'Blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'who has granted rest to his people Israel, keeping al his promises. Ofal the promises of good that he made through his servant Moses, not one has failed.	56 "Benedetto il Signore che ha concesso riposo al suo popolo Israele, secondo tutto quello che aveva detto. Neppure una di tutte le belle promesse fatte tramite il suo servo Mosè è andata a vuoto!
57 May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off.	57 Il Signore nostro Dio sia con noi come lo fu con i nostri padri; non ci abbandoni né ci rigetti;
58 May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may fol ow al his ways and keep the commandmentsand laws and ordinances which he gave to our ancestors.	58 ma inclini i nostri cuori verso di lui, affinché camminiamo in tutte le sue vie e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti, statuti e precetti che ha prescritto ai nostri padri.
59 May these words of mine, of my entreaty before Yahweh, be present with Yahweh our God day andnight, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires,	59 Possano queste parole che ho pronunciato davanti al Signore rimanere presenti al Signore nostro Dio giorno e notte; egli ogni giorno renderà giustizia al suo servo e al suo popolo Israele.
60 so that al the peoples of the earth may come to know that Yahweh is God indeed and that there is noother.	60 Così tutti i popoli della terra sapranno che il Signore solo e nessun altro è Dio,
61 May your hearts be wholly with Yahweh our God, fol owing his laws and keeping his commandmentsas at this present day.'	61 e il vostro cuore sarà tutto intero per il Signore nostro Dio, camminando secondo i suoi statuti e osservando i suoi comandamenti, come fate oggi".
62 The king and al Israel with him offered sacrifice before Yahweh.	62 Il re e tutto Israele con lui offrirono sacrifici davanti al Signore.
63 Solomon offered a communion sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twentythousand sheep to Yahweh; and thus the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Temple of Yahweh.	63 Come sacrifici di comunione offerti al Signore Salomone immolò ventiduemila buoi e centoventimila pecore. In tal modo il re e tutti i figli d'Israele dedicarono il tempio del Signore.
64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle part of the court in front of the Temple of Yahweh;for that was where he presented the burnt offerings, oblations and fatty parts of the communion sacrifices, since the bronze altar which stood before Yahweh was too smal to hold the burnt offering, oblation and the fatty partsof the communion sacrifice.	64 In quel giorno il re consacrò il centro del cortile che sta di fronte al tempio del Signore; lì infatti offrì l'olocausto, l'oblazione e le parti grasse dei sacrifici di comunione, poiché l'altare di bronzo che è davanti al Signore era insufficiente a contenere l'olocausto, l'oblazione e le parti grasse dei sacrifici di comunione.
65 And then Solomon and with him all Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Torrent of Egypt -- a greatassembly -- celebrated the feast before Yahweh our God for seven days.	65 In quell'occasione Salomone celebrò la festa; a lui si unì davanti al Signore, nostro Dio, per sette giorni, tutto Israele, un'assemblea grandiosa proveniente dall'ingresso di Camat fino al torrente d'Egitto.
66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, who bade farewel to the king and went home joyful andhappy of heart over al the goodness which Yahweh had shown to his servant and his people Israel.	66 Nel giorno ottavo congedò il popolo ed essi benedirono il re e ritornarono alle loro dimore, allegri e con il cuore contento per tutto il bene che il Signore aveva fatto a Davide suo servo e al suo popolo Israele.
