1 Kings 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Solomon then summoned the elders of Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahwehup from the City of David, that is, Zion.	1 Entonces congregó Salomón a los ancianos de Israel en Jerusalén para hacer subir el arca de la alianza de Yahveh desde la ciudad de David, que es Sión.
2 Al the men of Israel assembled round King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, at the time of the feast(that is, the seventh month).	2 Se reunieron junto al rey Salomón todos los hombres de Israel, en el mes de Etanim, (que es el mes séptimo) en la fiesta,
3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark	3 y los sacerdotes llevaron el arca,
4 and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils which were in the Tent.	4 y la Tienda del Encuentro, con todos los objetos sagrados que había en la Tienda.
5 King Solomon and al Israel, present with him before the ark, sacrificed countless, innumerable sheepand oxen.	5 El rey Salomón y todo Israel con él sacrificaron ante el arca ovejas y bueyes en número incalculable e innumerable.
6 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures	6 Los sacerdotes llevaron el arca de la alianza de Yahveh a su sitio, al Debir de la Casa, en el Santo de los Santos, bajo las alas de los querubines,
7 for the winged creatures spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy overthe ark and its shafts.	7 porque los querubines extendían las alas por encima del sitio del arca, cubriendo los querubines el arca y su varales por encima.
8 These were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts could be seen from the Holy Place in front ofthe Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are stil there today.	8 Los varales eran tan largos que se veían sus puntas desde el Santo, desde la parte anterior del Debir, pero no se veían desde fuera. Están allí hasta el día de hoy.
9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, thetablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.	9 En el arca no había nada más que las dos tablas de piedra que Moisés hizo poner en ella, en el Horeb, las tablas de la alianza que pactó Yahveh con los israelitas cuando salieron de la tierra de Egipto.
10 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud fil ed the Temple of Yahweh,	10 Al salir los sacerdotes del Santo, la nube llenó la Casa de Yahveh.
11 and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of Yahweh.	11 Y los sacerdotes no pudieron continuar en el servicio a causa de la nube, porque la gloria de Yahveh llenaba la Casa de Yahveh.
12 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud.	12 Entonces Salomón dijo: «Yahveh quiere habitar en densa nube.
13 I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	13 He querido erigirte una morada un lugar donde habites para siempre».
14 The king then turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	14 Se volvió el rey y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel mientras que toda la asamblea de Israel estaba en pie.
15 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promised withhis mouth to my father David, when he said,	15 El dijo: «Bendito sea Yahveh, Dios de Israel, que habló por su boca a mi padre David y ha cumplido por su mano lo que dijo:
16 "From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, tohave a temple built where my name should be; but I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	16 “Desde el día en que saqué de Egipto a mi pueblo Israel no he elegido ninguna ciudad entre todas las tribus de Israel para edificar una Casa en la que esté mi Nombre, pero he elegido a David para que esté al frente de mi pueblo Israel.”
17 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	17 Mi padre David pensó en su corazón edificar una Casa al Nombre de Yahveh, Dios de Israel,
18 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, andin this you have done wel ;	18 pero Yahveh dijo a David mi padre: “Cuanto a haber pensado en tu corazón edificar una Casa a mi Nombre, bien has hecho en tener tal voluntad,
19 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	19 pero no edificarás tú la Casa, sino que un hijo tuyo, salido de tus entrañas, ése será quien edifique la Casa a mi Nombre.”
20 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	20 Yahveh ha cumplido la promesa que dijo; he sucedido a mi padre David, me he sentado sobre el trono de Israel, como Yahveh había dicho, y he construido la Casa al Nombre de Yahveh, Dios de Israel,
21 and in it I have made a place for the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh which he made with ourancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.'	21 y he señalado en ella un lugar al arca en que está la alianza que Yahveh pactó con nuestros padres cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto».
22 Then, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, Solomon stood facing the altar of Yahweh and,stretching out his hands towards heaven,	22 Salomón se puso ante el altar de Yahveh en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel; extendió sus manos al cielo
23 said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, as loyal tothe covenant and faithful in love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	23 y dijo: «Yahveh, Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú en lo alto de los cielos ni abajo sobre la tierra, tú que guardas la alianza y el amor a tus siervos que andan en tu presencia con todo su corazón,
24 You have kept the promise you made to your servant, my father David, as you promised him youwould. Today you have carried it out by your power.	24 tú que has mantenido a mi padre David la promesa que le hiciste, pues por tu boca lo prometiste y por tu mano lo has cumplido este día.
25 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your sons are carefulhow they behave, walking before me as you yourself have done."	25 Ahora, pues, Yahveh, Dios de Israel, mantén a tu siervo David mi padre la promesa que le hiciste deciéndole: “ Nunca será quitado de mi presencia uno de los tuyos que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden su camino andando en mi presencia como has andado tú delante de mí.”
26 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	26 Ahora, Dios de Israel, que se cumpla la palabra que dijiste a tu siervo David, mi padre.
27 Yet wil God real y live with human beings on earth? Why, the heavens, the highest of the heavens,cannot contain you. How much less this temple built by me!	27 ¿Es que verdaderamente habitará Dios con los hombres sobre la tierra? Si los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerte, ¡cuánto menos esta Casa que yo te he construido!
28 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you today:	28 Atiende a la plegaria de tu siervo y a su petición, Yahveh Dios mío, y escucha el clamor y la plegaria que tu siervo hace hoy en tu presencia,
29 day and night may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place of which you have said, "My namewil be there." Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	29 que tus ojos estén abiertos día y noche sobre esta Casa, sobre este lugar del que dijiste: “En él estará mi Nombre”; escucha la oración que tu servidor te dirige en este lugar.
30 'Listen to the entreaty of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place, listenfrom the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	30 «Oye, pues, la plegaria de tu siervo y de tu pueblo Israel cuando oren en este lugar. Escucha tú desde el lugar de tu morada, desde el cielo, escucha y perdona.
31 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear an oath herebefore your altar in this Temple,	31 «Cuando un hombre peque contra su prójimo y éste pronuncie una imprecación sobre él haciéndole jurar delante de tu altar en esta Casa,
32 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and do justice between your servants:condemning the guilty one by making him suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him ashis uprightness deserves.	32 escucha tú desde los cielos y obra; juzga a tus siervos, declarando culpable al malo, para hacer recaer su conducta sobre su cabeza y declarando inocente al justo para darle según su justicia.
33 'When your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favours in this Temple,	33 «Cuando tu pueblo Israel sea batido por su enemigo por haber pecado contra ti, si se vuelven a ti y alaban tu Nombre, orando y suplicando ante ti en esta Casa,
34 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bringthem back to the country which you gave to their ancestors.	34 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel y vuélvelos a la tierra que diste a sus padres.
35 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	35 «Cuando los cielos estén cerrados y no haya lluvia porque pecaron contra ti, si oran en este lugar y alaban tu Nombre y se convierten de su pecado porque les humillaste,
36 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and yourpeople Israel -- for you are constantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain onyour country, which you have given to your people as their heritage.	36 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tu siervo y de tu pueblo Israel, pues les enseñarás el camino bueno por el que deberán andar, y envía lluvia sobre tu tierra, la que diste a tu pueblo en herencia.
37 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to one of their gates; should there be any plague or any disease:	37 «Cuando haya hambre en el país, cuando haya peste, tizón, añublo, langosta o pulgón, cuando su enemigo le asedie en una de sus puertas, en todo azote y toda emfermedad,
38 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual aware of a particular affliction: when that personstretches out the hands towards this Temple,	38 si un hombre cualquiera, experimentando remordimiento en su corazón, eleva cualquier plegaria o cualquier súplica y extiende las manos hacia esta Casa,
39 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in the heart, deal witheach as their conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in every human heart-	39 escucha tú desde los cielos, lugar de tu morada, perdona y da a cada uno según sus caminos, pues tú conoces su corazón y sólo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres,
40 so that they may reverence you throughout their lives in the country which you gave to our ancestors.	40 para que te teman todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que has dado a nuestros padres.
41 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour name-	41 «También al extranjero que no es de tu pueblo Israel, al que viene de un país lejano a causa de tu Nombre,
42 for they too wil hear of your name, of your mighty hand and outstretched arm -- if a foreigner comesand prays in this Temple,	42 porque oirá hablar de tu gran Nombre, de tu mano fuerte y de tu tenso brazo, y vendrá a orar a esta Casa,
43 listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al the peoplesof the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you and know that this Temple,which I have built, bears your name.	43 escucha tú desde los cielos, lugar de tu morada, y haz según cuanto te pida el extranjero, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu Nombre y te teman como tu pueblo Israel, y sepan que tu Nombre es invocado en esta Casa que yo he construido.
44 'If your people go out to war against the enemy, on whatever missions you send them, and they pray toYahweh, turning towards the city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	44 «Si tu pueblo va a la guerra contra su enemigo por el camino por el que tú le envíes, y suplican a Yahveh vueltos hacia la ciudad que has elegido y hacia la Casa que yo he construido para tu Nombre,
45 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	45 escucha tú desde los cielos su oración y su plegaria y hazles justicia.
46 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a hostile country, be it far away or near,	46 Cuando pequen contra ti, pues no hay hombre que no peque, y tú irritado contra ellos los entregues al enemigo, y sus conquistadores los lleven al país enemigo, lejano o próximo,
47 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and repent andentreat you in the country of their captors, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted perversely and wickedly,"	47 si se convierten en su corazón en la tierra a que hayan sido llevados, si se arrepienten y te suplican en la tierra de sus deportadores diciendo: “Hemos pecado, hemos sido perversos, somos culpables”,
48 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of the enemies who have taken themcaptive, and pray to you, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towards the city whichyou have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	48 si se vuelven a ti con todo su corazón y con toda su alma en el país de los enemigos que los deportaron, y te suplican vueltos hacia la tierra que tú diste a sus padres y hacia la ciudad que has elegido y hacia la Casa que he edificado a tu Nombre,
49 listen to their prayer and their entreaty from the place where you reside in heaven, uphold their case,	49 escucha tú desde los cielos, lugar de tu morada,
50 forgive your people for having sinned against you and for al the crimes against you of which they havebeen guilty, and allow them to arouse the pity of their captors so that these may have pity on them:	50 y perdona a tu pueblo, que ha pecado contra ti, todas las rebeliones con que te han traicionado, y concédeles que hallen compasión entre sus deportadores para que éstos les tengan piedad,
51 for they are your people and your heritage whom you brought out of Egypt, that iron foundry!	51 porque son tu pueblo y tu heredad, los que sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del crisol del hierro.
52 'May your eyes be open to the entreaty of your servant and the entreaty of your people Israel, to listento them, whatever they ask of you.	52 «Que tus ojos estén abiertos a las súplicas de tu siervo y a la súplica de tu pueblo Israel, para escuchar todos sus clamores hacia ti.
53 For you it was who set them apart from al the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declaredthrough your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.'	53 Porque tú los separaste para ti como herencia tuya de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra, como dijiste por boca de Moisés tu siervo cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egiptko, Señor Yahveh».
54 When Solomon had finished offering to Yahweh this whole prayer and entreaty, he rose from where hewas kneeling with hands stretched out towards heaven before the altar of Yahweh,	54 Cuando Salomón acabó de dirigir a Yahveh toda esta plegaria y esta súplica, se levantó de delante del altar de Yahveh, del lugar donde se había arrodillado con las manos extendidas hacia el cielo,
55 and stood upright. And in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel.	55 y se puso de pie para bendecir a toda la asamblea de Israel, diciendo en alta voz:
56 'Blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'who has granted rest to his people Israel, keeping al his promises. Ofal the promises of good that he made through his servant Moses, not one has failed.	56 «Bendito sea Yahveh que ha dado reposo a su pueblo Israel, según todas sus promesas; no ha fallado ninguna de las palabras de bien que dijo por boca de Moisés su siervo.
57 May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off.	57 Que Yahveh, nuestro Dios, esté con nosotros como estuvo con nuestros padres, que no nos abandone ni nos rechace.
58 May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may fol ow al his ways and keep the commandmentsand laws and ordinances which he gave to our ancestors.	58 Que incline nuestros corazones hacia él para que andemos según todos sus caminos y guardemos todos los mandamientos, los decretos y las sentencias que ordenó a nuestros padres.
59 May these words of mine, of my entreaty before Yahweh, be present with Yahweh our God day andnight, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires,	59 Que estas palabras con que he suplicado ante Yahveh permanezcan día y noche junto a Yahveh, nuestro Dios, para que dé lo justo a su siervo y justicia a su pueblo Israel, según las necesidades de cada día,
60 so that al the peoples of the earth may come to know that Yahweh is God indeed and that there is noother.	60 para que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que Yahveh es Dios y no hay otro,
61 May your hearts be wholly with Yahweh our God, fol owing his laws and keeping his commandmentsas at this present day.'	61 y vuestros corazones estarán enteramente con Yahveh, nuestro Dios, para caminar según sus decretos y para guardar sus mandamientos como hoy».
62 The king and al Israel with him offered sacrifice before Yahweh.	62 El rey, y todo Israel con él, ofrecieron sacrificios ante Yahveh.
63 Solomon offered a communion sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twentythousand sheep to Yahweh; and thus the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Temple of Yahweh.	63 Salomón sacrificó, como sacrificios de comunión que ofreció en sacrificio a Yahveh, 22.000 bueyes y 120.000 ovejas; así inauguraron la Casa de Yahveh el rey y todos los hijos de Israel.
64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle part of the court in front of the Temple of Yahweh;for that was where he presented the burnt offerings, oblations and fatty parts of the communion sacrifices, since the bronze altar which stood before Yahweh was too smal to hold the burnt offering, oblation and the fatty partsof the communion sacrifice.	64 Aquel día consagró el rey el interior del patio que está delante de la Casa de Yahveh, pues ofreció allí el holocausto, la oblación y las grasas de los sacrificios de comunión, porque el altar de bronce que estaba ante Yahveh era demasiado pequeño para contener el holocausto, la oblación y las grasas de los sacrificios de comunión.
65 And then Solomon and with him all Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Torrent of Egypt -- a greatassembly -- celebrated the feast before Yahweh our God for seven days.	65 En aquella ocasión celebró Salomón la fiesta con todos los israelitas en magna asamblea desde la entrada de Jamat hasta el torrente de Egipto, ante Yahveh nuestro Dios, durante siete días.
66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, who bade farewel to the king and went home joyful andhappy of heart over al the goodness which Yahweh had shown to his servant and his people Israel.	66 El día octavo despidió al pueblo. Bendijeron al rey y se fueron a sus tiendas, gozosos y con el corazón alegre por todo el bien que Yahveh había hecho a su siervo David y a su pueblo Israel.
