1 Solomon then summoned the elders of Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahwehup from the City of David, that is, Zion.	1 Salomone allora convocò presso di sé in assemblea a Gerusalemme gli anziani d’Israele, tutti i capitribù, i prìncipi dei casati degli Israeliti, per fare salire l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore dalla Città di Davide, cioè da Sion.
2 Al the men of Israel assembled round King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, at the time of the feast(that is, the seventh month).	2 Si radunarono presso il re Salomone tutti gli Israeliti nel mese di Etanìm, cioè il settimo mese, durante la festa.
3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark	3 Quando furono giunti tutti gli anziani d’Israele, i sacerdoti sollevarono l’arca
4 and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils which were in the Tent.	4 e fecero salire l’arca del Signore, con la tenda del convegno e con tutti gli oggetti sacri che erano nella tenda; li facevano salire i sacerdoti e i leviti.
5 King Solomon and al Israel, present with him before the ark, sacrificed countless, innumerable sheepand oxen.	5 Il re Salomone e tutta la comunità d’Israele, convenuta presso di lui, immolavano davanti all’arca pecore e giovenchi, che non si potevano contare né si potevano calcolare per la quantità.
6 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures	6 I sacerdoti introdussero l’arca dell’alleanza del Signore al suo posto nel sacrario del tempio, nel Santo dei Santi, sotto le ali dei cherubini.
7 for the winged creatures spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy overthe ark and its shafts.	7 Difatti i cherubini stendevano le ali sul luogo dell’arca; i cherubini, cioè, proteggevano l’arca e le sue stanghe dall’alto.
8 These were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts could be seen from the Holy Place in front ofthe Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are stil there today.	8 Le stanghe sporgevano e le punte delle stanghe si vedevano dal Santo di fronte al sacrario, ma non si vedevano di fuori. Vi sono ancora oggi.
9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, thetablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.	9 Nell’arca non c’era nulla se non le due tavole di pietra, che vi aveva deposto Mosè sull’Oreb, dove il Signore aveva concluso l’alleanza con gli Israeliti quando uscirono dalla terra d’Egitto.
10 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud fil ed the Temple of Yahweh,	10 Appena i sacerdoti furono usciti dal santuario, la nube riempì il tempio del Signore,
11 and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of Yahweh.	11 e i sacerdoti non poterono rimanervi per compiere il servizio a causa della nube, perché la gloria del Signore riempiva il tempio del Signore.
12 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud.	12 Allora Salomone disse: «Il Signore ha deciso di abitare nella nube oscura.
13 I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	13 Ho voluto costruirti una casa eccelsa, un luogo per la tua dimora in eterno».
14 The king then turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	14 Il re si voltò e benedisse tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, mentre tutta l’assemblea d’Israele stava in piedi,
15 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promised withhis mouth to my father David, when he said,	15 e disse: «Benedetto il Signore, Dio d’Israele, che ha adempiuto con le sue mani quanto con la bocca ha detto a Davide, mio padre:
16 "From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, tohave a temple built where my name should be; but I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	16 “Da quando ho fatto uscire Israele, mio popolo, dall’Egitto, io non ho scelto una città fra tutte le tribù d’Israele per costruire una casa, perché vi dimorasse il mio nome, ma ho scelto Davide perché governi il mio popolo Israele”.
17 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	17 Davide, mio padre, aveva deciso di costruire una casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele,
18 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, andin this you have done wel ;	18 ma il Signore disse a Davide, mio padre: “Poiché hai deciso di costruire una casa al mio nome, hai fatto bene a deciderlo;
19 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	19 solo che non costruirai tu la casa, ma tuo figlio, che uscirà dai tuoi fianchi, lui costruirà una casa al mio nome”.
20 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	20 Il Signore ha attuato la parola che aveva pronunciato: sono succeduto infatti a Davide, mio padre, e siedo sul trono d’Israele, come aveva preannunciato il Signore, e ho costruito la casa al nome del Signore, Dio d’Israele.
21 and in it I have made a place for the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh which he made with ourancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.'	21 Vi ho fissato un posto per l’arca, dove c’è l’alleanza che il Signore aveva concluso con i nostri padri quando li fece uscire dalla terra d’Egitto».
22 Then, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, Solomon stood facing the altar of Yahweh and,stretching out his hands towards heaven,	22 Poi Salomone si pose davanti all’altare del Signore, di fronte a tutta l’assemblea d’Israele e, stese le mani verso il cielo,
23 said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, as loyal tothe covenant and faithful in love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	23 disse: «Signore, Dio d’Israele, non c’è un Dio come te, né lassù nei cieli né quaggiù sulla terra! Tu mantieni l’alleanza e la fedeltà verso i tuoi servi che camminano davanti a te con tutto il loro cuore.
24 You have kept the promise you made to your servant, my father David, as you promised him youwould. Today you have carried it out by your power.	24 Tu hai mantenuto nei riguardi del tuo servo Davide, mio padre, quanto gli avevi promesso; quanto avevi detto con la bocca l’hai adempiuto con la tua mano, come appare oggi.
25 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your sons are carefulhow they behave, walking before me as you yourself have done."	25 Ora, Signore, Dio d’Israele, mantieni nei riguardi del tuo servo Davide, mio padre, quanto gli hai promesso dicendo: “Non ti mancherà mai un discendente che stia davanti a me e sieda sul trono d’Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sulla loro condotta, camminando davanti a me come hai camminato tu davanti a me”.
26 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	26 Ora, Signore, Dio d’Israele, si adempia la tua parola, che hai rivolto al tuo servo Davide, mio padre!
27 Yet wil God real y live with human beings on earth? Why, the heavens, the highest of the heavens,cannot contain you. How much less this temple built by me!	27 Ma è proprio vero che Dio abita sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti, tanto meno questa casa che io ho costruito!
28 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you today:	28 Volgiti alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, Signore, mio Dio, per ascoltare il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo oggi innalza davanti a te!
29 day and night may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place of which you have said, "My namewil be there." Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	29 Siano aperti i tuoi occhi notte e giorno verso questa casa, verso il luogo di cui hai detto: “Lì porrò il mio nome!”. Ascolta la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza in questo luogo.
30 'Listen to the entreaty of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place, listenfrom the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	30 Ascolta la supplica del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele, quando pregheranno in questo luogo. Ascoltali nel luogo della tua dimora, in cielo; ascolta e perdona!
31 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear an oath herebefore your altar in this Temple,	31 Se uno pecca contro il suo prossimo e, perché gli è imposto un giuramento imprecatorio, viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questo tempio,
32 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and do justice between your servants:condemning the guilty one by making him suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him ashis uprightness deserves.	32 tu ascoltalo nel cielo, intervieni e fa’ giustizia con i tuoi servi; condanna il malvagio, facendogli ricadere sul capo la sua condotta, e dichiara giusto l’innocente, rendendogli quanto merita la sua giustizia.
33 'When your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favours in this Temple,	33 Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto di fronte al nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, ma si converte a te, loda il tuo nome, ti prega e ti supplica in questo tempio,
34 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bringthem back to the country which you gave to their ancestors.	34 tu ascolta nel cielo, perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele e fallo tornare sul suolo che hai dato ai loro padri.
35 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	35 Quando si chiuderà il cielo e non ci sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, ma ti pregano in questo luogo, lodano il tuo nome e si convertono dal loro peccato perché tu li hai umiliati,
36 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and yourpeople Israel -- for you are constantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain onyour country, which you have given to your people as their heritage.	36 tu ascolta nel cielo, perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, ai quali indicherai la strada buona su cui camminare, e concedi la pioggia alla terra che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo.
37 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to one of their gates; should there be any plague or any disease:	37 Quando sulla terra ci sarà fame o peste, carbonchio o ruggine, invasione di locuste o di bruchi, quando il suo nemico lo assedierà nel territorio delle sue città o quando vi sarà piaga o infermità d’ogni genere,
38 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual aware of a particular affliction: when that personstretches out the hands towards this Temple,	38 ogni preghiera e ogni supplica di un solo individuo o di tutto il tuo popolo Israele, di chiunque abbia patito una piaga nel cuore e stenda le mani verso questo tempio,
39 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in the heart, deal witheach as their conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in every human heart-	39 tu ascoltala nel cielo, luogo della tua dimora, perdona, agisci e da’ a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che conosci il suo cuore, poiché solo tu conosci il cuore di tutti gli uomini,
40 so that they may reverence you throughout their lives in the country which you gave to our ancestors.	40 perché ti temano tutti i giorni della loro vita sul suolo che hai dato ai nostri padri.
41 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour name-	41 Anche lo straniero, che non è del tuo popolo Israele, se viene da una terra lontana a causa del tuo nome,
42 for they too wil hear of your name, of your mighty hand and outstretched arm -- if a foreigner comesand prays in this Temple,	42 perché si sentirà parlare del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio teso, se egli viene a pregare in questo tempio,
43 listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al the peoplesof the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you and know that this Temple,which I have built, bears your name.	43 tu ascolta nel cielo, luogo della tua dimora, e fa’ tutto quello per cui ti avrà invocato lo straniero, perché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome, ti temano come il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è stato invocato su questo tempio che io ho costruito.
44 'If your people go out to war against the enemy, on whatever missions you send them, and they pray toYahweh, turning towards the city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	44 Quando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro i suoi nemici, seguendo la via sulla quale l’avrai mandato, e pregheranno il Signore rivolti verso la città che tu hai scelto e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,
45 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	45 ascolta nel cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e rendi loro giustizia.
46 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a hostile country, be it far away or near,	46 Quando peccheranno contro di te, poiché non c’è nessuno che non pecchi, e tu, adirato contro di loro, li consegnerai a un nemico e i loro conquistatori li deporteranno in una terra ostile, lontana o vicina,
47 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and repent andentreat you in the country of their captors, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted perversely and wickedly,"	47 se nella terra in cui saranno deportati, rientrando in se stessi, torneranno a te supplicandoti nella terra della loro prigionia, dicendo: “Abbiamo peccato, siamo colpevoli, siamo stati malvagi”,
48 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of the enemies who have taken themcaptive, and pray to you, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towards the city whichyou have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	48 se torneranno a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nella terra dei nemici che li avranno deportati, e ti supplicheranno rivolti verso la loro terra che tu hai dato ai loro padri, verso la città che tu hai scelto e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,
49 listen to their prayer and their entreaty from the place where you reside in heaven, uphold their case,	49 tu ascolta nel cielo, luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e rendi loro giustizia.
50 forgive your people for having sinned against you and for al the crimes against you of which they havebeen guilty, and allow them to arouse the pity of their captors so that these may have pity on them:	50 Perdona al tuo popolo, che ha peccato contro di te, tutte le loro ribellioni con cui si sono ribellati contro di te, e rendili oggetto di compassione davanti ai loro deportatori, affinché abbiano di loro misericordia,
51 for they are your people and your heritage whom you brought out of Egypt, that iron foundry!	51 perché si tratta del tuo popolo e della tua eredità, di coloro che hai fatto uscire dall’Egitto, da una fornace per fondere il ferro.
52 'May your eyes be open to the entreaty of your servant and the entreaty of your people Israel, to listento them, whatever they ask of you.	52 Siano aperti i tuoi occhi alla preghiera del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele e ascoltali in tutto quello che ti chiedono,
53 For you it was who set them apart from al the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declaredthrough your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.'	53 perché te li sei separati da tutti i popoli della terra come tua proprietà, secondo quanto avevi dichiarato per mezzo di Mosè tuo servo, mentre facevi uscire i nostri padri dall’Egitto, o Signore Dio».
54 When Solomon had finished offering to Yahweh this whole prayer and entreaty, he rose from where hewas kneeling with hands stretched out towards heaven before the altar of Yahweh,	54 Quando Salomone ebbe finito di rivolgere al Signore questa preghiera e questa supplica, si alzò davanti all’altare del Signore, dove era inginocchiato con le palme tese verso il cielo,
55 and stood upright. And in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel.	55 si mise in piedi e benedisse tutta l’assemblea d’Israele, a voce alta:
56 'Blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'who has granted rest to his people Israel, keeping al his promises. Ofal the promises of good that he made through his servant Moses, not one has failed.	56 «Benedetto il Signore, che ha concesso tranquillità a Israele suo popolo, secondo la sua parola. Non è venuta meno neppure una delle parole buone che aveva pronunciato per mezzo di Mosè, suo servo.
57 May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off.	57 Il Signore, nostro Dio, sia con noi come è stato con i nostri padri; non ci abbandoni e non ci respinga,
58 May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may fol ow al his ways and keep the commandmentsand laws and ordinances which he gave to our ancestors.	58 ma volga piuttosto i nostri cuori verso di lui, perché seguiamo tutte le sue vie e osserviamo i comandi, le leggi e le norme che ha ordinato ai nostri padri.
59 May these words of mine, of my entreaty before Yahweh, be present with Yahweh our God day andnight, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires,	59 Queste mie parole, usate da me per supplicare il Signore, siano presenti davanti al Signore, nostro Dio, giorno e notte, perché renda giustizia al suo servo e a Israele, suo popolo, secondo le necessità di ogni giorno,
60 so that al the peoples of the earth may come to know that Yahweh is God indeed and that there is noother.	60 affinché sappiano tutti i popoli della terra che il Signore è Dio e che non ce n’è altri.
61 May your hearts be wholly with Yahweh our God, fol owing his laws and keeping his commandmentsas at this present day.'	61 Il vostro cuore sarà tutto dedito al Signore, nostro Dio, perché cammini secondo le sue leggi e osservi i suoi comandi, come avviene oggi».
62 The king and al Israel with him offered sacrifice before Yahweh.	62 Il re e tutto Israele con lui offrirono un sacrificio davanti al Signore.
63 Solomon offered a communion sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twentythousand sheep to Yahweh; and thus the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Temple of Yahweh.	63 Salomone immolò al Signore, in sacrificio di comunione, ventiduemila giovenchi e centoventimila pecore; così il re e tutti gli Israeliti dedicarono il tempio del Signore.
64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle part of the court in front of the Temple of Yahweh;for that was where he presented the burnt offerings, oblations and fatty parts of the communion sacrifices, since the bronze altar which stood before Yahweh was too smal to hold the burnt offering, oblation and the fatty partsof the communion sacrifice.	64 In quel giorno il re consacrò il centro del cortile che era di fronte al tempio del Signore; infatti lì offrì l’olocausto, l’offerta e il grasso dei sacrifici di comunione, perché l’altare di bronzo, che era davanti al Signore, era troppo piccolo per contenere l’olocausto, l’offerta e il grasso dei sacrifici di comunione.
65 And then Solomon and with him all Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Torrent of Egypt -- a greatassembly -- celebrated the feast before Yahweh our God for seven days.	65 In quel tempo Salomone celebrò la festa davanti al Signore, nostro Dio, per sette giorni: tutto Israele, dall’ingresso di Camat al torrente d’Egitto, un’assemblea molto grande, era con lui.
66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, who bade farewel to the king and went home joyful andhappy of heart over al the goodness which Yahweh had shown to his servant and his people Israel.	66 Nell’ottavo giorno congedò il popolo. I convenuti, benedetto il re, andarono alle loro tende, contenti e con la gioia nel cuore per tutto il bene concesso dal Signore a Davide, suo servo, e a Israele, suo popolo.
