1 There came to Bethel at Yahweh's command a man of God from Judah, just as Jeroboam wasstanding by the altar to offer the sacrifice,	1 - Ecco un uomo di Dio giungere da Giuda a Betel per ordine del Signore, mentre Geroboamo stava sull'altare per bruciare l'incenso
2 and at Yahweh's command this man denounced the altar. 'Altar, altar,' he said, 'Yahweh says this, "Ason is to be born to the House of David, Josiah by name, and on you he wil slaughter the priests of the highplaces who have offered sacrifice on you, and on you he will burn human bones." '	2 e gridò contro l'altare in nome del Signore e disse: «Altare, altare, così dice il Signore: - Nascerà alla casa di Davide un figlio, di nome Josia, e immolerà sopra di te i sacerdoti delle alture, che bruciano ora sopra di te gl'incensi; ed egli brucerà sopra di te ossa umane -».
3 At the same time he gave a sign. 'This is the sign', he said, 'that Yahweh has spoken, "This altar willburst apart and the ashes which are on it will be spilt." '	3 E nello stesso giorno egli diede loro un segno, dicendo: «Questo sarà il segno che il Signore ha parlato: l'altare si spaccherà e la cenere che vi è sopra si disperderà».
4 When the king heard how the man of God denounced the altar of Bethel, he stretched out his handfrom the altar, saying, 'Seize him!' But the hand he stretched out against the man withered, and he could notdraw it back,	4 Quando il re intese la parola dell'uomo di Dio, che aveva imprecato contro l'altare di Betel, stese la mano dall'altare e disse: «Prendetelo». Ma la mano, che egli aveva stesa contro di lui, si inaridì e non potè più ritirarla a sè.
5 and the altar burst apart and the ashes from the altar were spilt, in accordance with the sign given bythe man of God at Yahweh's command.	5 L'altare si spaccò e la cenere dell'altare si disperse, secondo il segno, che aveva dato l'uomo di Dio in nome del Signore.
6 The king said to the man of God, 'I beg you to placate Yahweh your God, and so restore me the use ofmy hand.' The man of God placated Yahweh; the king's hand was restored as it had been before.	6 Disse allora il re all'uomo di Dio: «Prega il Signore Iddio tuo e scongiuralo per me, affinchè mi sia restituito l'uso della mano». E l'uomo di Dio pregò il Signore e il re potè ritrarre a sè la sua mano, che divenne come prima.
7 The king then said to the man of God, 'Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I shall give you apresent,'	7 Rivolto all'uomo di Dio, il re disse: «Vieni meco in casa, vi pranzerai e io ti farò regali».
8 but the man of God replied to the king, 'Were you to give me half your palace, I would not go with you. Iwil eat and drink nothing here,	8 Ma l'uomo di Dio rispose al re: «Ancorchè mi accordassi la metà della tua casa, io non verrò teco, non mangerò pane, nè berrò acqua in questo luogo;
9 for I have had Yahweh's order, "You are to eat or drink nothing, nor to return by the way you came." '	9 poichè così mi fu comandato dalla parola del Signore, che mi ordinò: - Non mangerai pane, nè berrai acqua, nè ritornerai per la strada per la quale sei venuto -».
10 And he left by another road and did not return by the way he had come to Bethel.	10 Se ne andò quindi per un'altra strada e non ritornò per quella fatta venendo a Betel.
11 Now there was an old prophet living in Bethel, and his sons came to tel him al that the man of Godhad done in Bethel that day; and the words which he had said to the king, they told these to their father too.	11 In Betel abitava un vecchio profeta i cui figliuoli vennero a narrargli tutto ciò che aveva fatto l'uomo di Dio, in quel giorno a Betel, e riferirono al loro padre le parole che egli aveva rivolto al re.
12 'Which road did he take?' their father asked. His sons showed him the road which the man of Godwho came from Judah had taken.	12 Il padre domandò loro: «Per qual via se n'è andato?». I figli mostrarono la strada per la quale se n'era andato l'uomo di Dio, venuto da Giuda.
13 'Saddle the donkey for me,' he said to his sons; they saddled the donkey for him and he mounted.	13 Disse allora ai suoi figli: «Sellatemi l'asino», e dopo che essi glielo ebbero sellato, egli vi montò sopra
14 He fol owed the man of God and found him sitting under a terebinth. 'Are you the man of God', hesaid, 'who came from Judah?' 'I am,' he replied.	14 e se ne andò dietro all'uomo di Dio e trovatolo sotto un terebinto, gli chiese: «Sei tu l'uomo di Dio, venuto da Giuda?». «Lo sono», gli rispose.
15 'Come home with me,' he said, 'and take some food.'	15 E l'altro soggiunse: «Vieni con me a casa per prendere un po' di cibo».
16 'I cannot go back with you,' he answered, 'or eat or drink anything here,	16 Ma quegli rispose: «Non posso tornare, nè venire con te, nè mangiare pane, nè bere acqua in questo luogo,
17 for I have received Yahweh's order, "You are to eat or drink nothing there, nor to return by the wayyou came." '	17 poichè il Signore mi parlò in questi termini: - Non mangerai pane, nè berrai acqua e non tornerai per la via per la quale sei andato -».
18 'I too am a prophet like you,' the other replied, 'and an angel told me this by Yahweh's command,"Bring him back with you to your house to eat and drink." ' He was lying to him.	18 Ma l'altro soggiunse: «Anch'io sono profeta simile a te, e un angelo mi ha parlato a nome del Signore, dicendo: - Riconducilo teco a casa, affinchè mangi pane e beva acqua -». Così lo ingannò
19 The man of God went back with him; he ate and drank at his house.	19 e lo ricondusse con sè; ed egli mangiò pane in casa di lui e bevve acqua.
20 As they were sitting at table a word of Yahweh came to the prophet who had brought him back,	20 Mentre sedevano a mensa, la parola del Signore fu rivolta al profeta che l'aveva ricondotto,
21 and he addressed the man of God who came from Judah. 'Yahweh says this,' he said. ' "Since you have defied Yahweh's command and not obeyed the orders which Yahweh your God gave you,	21 ed egli gridò all'uomo di Dio, che era venuto da Giuda e disse: «Questo dice il Signore: - Poichè non sei stato obbediente all'ordine del Signore e non osservasti il comando, che ti aveva dato il Signore Iddio tuo,
22 but have come back and eaten and drunk where he forbade you to eat and drink, your corpse wilnever reach the tomb of your ancestors." '	22 e sei tornato e hai mangiato pane e bevuto acqua nel luogo in cui ti aveva comandato di non mangiar pane, e di non bere acqua, il tuo cadavere non entrerà nel sepolcro dei padri tuoi-».
23 After he had eaten and drunk, the prophet saddled the donkey for him, and he turned about and wentaway.	23 E quando egli ebbe mangiato e bevuto, [il vecchio profeta] sellò l'asino suo per il profeta che aveva fatto tornare indietro.
24 A lion met him on the road and killed him; his corpse lay stretched out on the road; the donkey stoodthere beside it; the lion stood by the corpse too.	24 E questi, come se ne fu partito, s'imbattè per la strada in un leone, dal quale fu ucciso. Il cadavere era steso sul sentiero; l'asino stava presso di lui e il leone era accanto al cadavere.
25 People going by saw the corpse lying on the road and the lion standing by the corpse, and went andspoke about it in the town where the old prophet lived.	25 Alcuni uomini che passavano di lì videro il cadavere, e vennero a divulgare il fatto nella città nella quale abitava quel vecchio profeta.
26 When the prophet who had made the man turn back heard about it, he said, 'That is the man of Godwho defied Yahweh's command! Yahweh has handed him over to the lion, which has mauled and kil ed him, justas Yahweh had foretold it would.'	26 Avendo inteso ciò quel profeta, che aveva ricondotto indietro l'uomo di Dio disse: «È l'uomo di Dio, che essendo stato disubbidiente alla parola del Signore, fu dal Signore dato in preda al leone, il quale lo ha lacerato e ucciso secondo la parola che il Signore gli aveva detto».
27 He said to his sons, 'Saddle the donkey for me,' and they saddled it.	27 Disse quindi ai suoi figli: «Sellatemi l'asino». Ed egli, dopo che glielo ebbero sellato,
28 He set off and found the man's corpse lying on the road with the donkey and the lion standing besidethe corpse; the lion had neither eaten the corpse nor mauled the donkey.	28 andò e trovò il cadavere disteso sulla via e l'asino e il leone accanto al cadavere. Il leone non aveva divorato il cadavere nè ucciso l'asino.
29 The prophet lifted the corpse of the man of God and put it on the donkey and brought it back to thetown where he lived to hold mourning for him and bury him.	29 Il profeta raccolse il cadavere dell'uomo di Dio, lo collocò sull'asino, e il vecchio profeta, ritornando, lo portò nella sua città per piangerlo.
30 He laid the corpse in his own tomb, and they raised the mourning cry for him, 'Alas, my brother!'	30 E pose il cadavere di lui nel suo stesso sepolcro ed [egli e i suoi figliuoli] lo piansero dicendo: «Ohimè! Ohimè, fratello mio!».
31 After burying him, the prophet said to his sons, 'When I die, bury me in the same tomb as the man ofGod, lay my bones beside his.	31 Quando l'ebbero pianto, egli disse ai figliuoli: «Quando io sarò morto, seppellitemi nel sepolcro dove è stato posto l'uomo di Dio; accanto alle sue ossa mettete le mie;
32 For the word he uttered at Yahweh's command against the altar of Bethel and against al the shrinesof the high places in the towns of Samaria will certainly come true.'	32 poichè senza dubbio si avvererà la parola che egli ha predetta da parte del Signore contro l'altare, che sta in Betel, e contro tutte le alture, che sono nelle città di Samaria».
33 Jeroboam did not give up his wicked ways after this incident, but went on appointing priests for thehigh places from the common people. He consecrated as priests of the high places any who wished to be.	33 Dopo questi fatti Geroboamo non si convertì dalla sua pessima vita. Anzi creò di nuovo sacerdoti delle alture, presi dall'infimo popolo. Chiunque voleva, egli lo consacrava, e diventava sacerdote delle alture.
34 Such conduct made the House of Jeroboam a sinful House, and caused its ruin and extinction fromthe face of the earth.	34 E per questa ragione peccò la casa di Geroboamo e fu sterminata e distrutta dalla faccia della terra.
