1 There came to Bethel at Yahweh's command a man of God from Judah, just as Jeroboam wasstanding by the altar to offer the sacrifice,	1 Par ordre de Yahvé, un homme de Dieu arriva de Juda à Béthel alors que Jéroboam était près de l’autel et faisait brûler l’encens.
2 and at Yahweh's command this man denounced the altar. 'Altar, altar,' he said, 'Yahweh says this, "Ason is to be born to the House of David, Josiah by name, and on you he wil slaughter the priests of the highplaces who have offered sacrifice on you, and on you he will burn human bones." '	2 L’homme de Dieu cria contre l’autel sur l’ordre de Yahvé: “Autel, autel, voici ce que dit Yahvé: il naîtra dans la maison de David un fils du nom de Josias. Il sacrifiera sur toi les prêtres des Hauts-Lieux, ceux qui brûlent l’encens sur toi, et l’on brûlera sur toi des ossements humains.”
3 At the same time he gave a sign. 'This is the sign', he said, 'that Yahweh has spoken, "This altar willburst apart and the ashes which are on it will be spilt." '	3 Ce même jour il donna cette preuve: “Voici la preuve que Yahvé vous donne: l’autel va se fendre et la cendre qui est dessus va se répandre.”
4 When the king heard how the man of God denounced the altar of Bethel, he stretched out his handfrom the altar, saying, 'Seize him!' But the hand he stretched out against the man withered, and he could notdraw it back,	4 Lorsque le roi Jéroboam entendit cette malédiction de l’homme de Dieu contre l’autel de Béthel, il étendit la main et ordonna: “Saisissez-le!” Mais la main qu’il avait étendue contre l’homme de Dieu devint raide, il ne put la ramener à lui.
5 and the altar burst apart and the ashes from the altar were spilt, in accordance with the sign given bythe man of God at Yahweh's command.	5 L’autel se fendit et la cendre de l’autel se répandit; c’était bien la preuve qu’avait donnée l’homme de Dieu sur l’ordre de Yahvé.
6 The king said to the man of God, 'I beg you to placate Yahweh your God, and so restore me the use ofmy hand.' The man of God placated Yahweh; the king's hand was restored as it had been before.	6 Le roi prit alors la parole et dit à l’homme de Dieu: “Je t’en prie, apaise Yahvé ton Dieu, prie pour moi afin que ma main me revienne.” L’homme de Dieu apaisa Yahvé et la main du roi lui revint: elle était comme auparavant.
7 The king then said to the man of God, 'Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I shall give you apresent,'	7 Le roi dit alors à l’homme de Dieu: “Rentre avec moi à la maison, prends des forces, et je te ferai un cadeau.”
8 but the man of God replied to the king, 'Were you to give me half your palace, I would not go with you. Iwil eat and drink nothing here,	8 Mais l’homme de Dieu dit au roi: “Même si tu me donnais la moitié de ta maison, je n’y entrerais pas avec toi. Je ne mangerai pas de pain, je ne boirai pas d’eau en ce lieu,
9 for I have had Yahweh's order, "You are to eat or drink nothing, nor to return by the way you came." '	9 car j’ai reçu cet ordre de la part de Yahvé: ‘Tu ne mangeras pas de pain, tu ne boiras pas d’eau, et tu ne reviendras pas par le chemin par lequel tu es allé.’ ”
10 And he left by another road and did not return by the way he had come to Bethel.	10 Il s’en alla donc par un autre chemin, délaissant le chemin par lequel il était monté à Béthel.
11 Now there was an old prophet living in Bethel, and his sons came to tel him al that the man of Godhad done in Bethel that day; and the words which he had said to the king, they told these to their father too.	11 Or, à Béthel, il y avait un vieux prophète, et ses fils vinrent lui raconter tout ce que l’homme de Dieu avait fait ce jour-là à Béthel; ils rapportèrent à leur père toutes les paroles que cet homme avaient dites au roi.
12 'Which road did he take?' their father asked. His sons showed him the road which the man of Godwho came from Judah had taken.	12 Leur père leur dit: “Par quel chemin s’en est-il allé?” Et ses fils lui firent voir le chemin par lequel était reparti l’homme de Dieu venu de Juda.
13 'Saddle the donkey for me,' he said to his sons; they saddled the donkey for him and he mounted.	13 Il dit alors à ses fils: “Sellez mon âne.” Ils lui sellèrent son âne et il monta dessus.
14 He fol owed the man of God and found him sitting under a terebinth. 'Are you the man of God', hesaid, 'who came from Judah?' 'I am,' he replied.	14 Il partit donc derrière l’homme de Dieu et le trouva assis sous un térébinthe. Il lui dit: “C’est toi l’homme de Dieu qui est venu de Juda?” Il répondit: “Oui, c’est moi.”
15 'Come home with me,' he said, 'and take some food.'	15 Il lui dit: “Viens chez moi et tu mangeras un morceau.”
16 'I cannot go back with you,' he answered, 'or eat or drink anything here,	16 L’autre répondit: “Je ne peux pas revenir avec toi ni rentrer chez toi. Je ne mangerai pas de pain, je ne boirai pas d’eau avec toi en ce lieu,
17 for I have received Yahweh's order, "You are to eat or drink nothing there, nor to return by the wayyou came." '	17 car c’est un ordre que j’ai reçu de Yahvé: ‘Tu ne mangeras pas de pain, tu ne boiras pas d’eau là-bas, et tu ne reviendras pas par le chemin par lequel tu es allé.’ ”
18 'I too am a prophet like you,' the other replied, 'and an angel told me this by Yahweh's command,"Bring him back with you to your house to eat and drink." ' He was lying to him.	18 Mais le vieux prophète lui dit: “Moi aussi je suis prophète comme toi, et un ange m’a parlé. Il m’a transmis cet ordre de Yahvé: Ramène-le avec toi, chez toi, pour qu’il mange du pain et qu’il boive de l’eau.” C’était un mensonge.
19 The man of God went back with him; he ate and drank at his house.	19 L’homme de Dieu revint donc avec lui, il mangea du pain et but de l’eau dans sa maison.
20 As they were sitting at table a word of Yahweh came to the prophet who had brought him back,	20 Comme ils étaient assis à table, la parole de Dieu fut adressée au prophète qui l’avait ramené.
21 and he addressed the man of God who came from Judah. 'Yahweh says this,' he said. ' "Since you have defied Yahweh's command and not obeyed the orders which Yahweh your God gave you,	21 Il cria à l’homme de Dieu qui était monté de Juda: “Ainsi a parlé Yahvé: Puisque tu as été rebelle à l’ordre de Yahvé, et que tu n’as pas observé le commandement que Yahvé ton Dieu t’avait donné,
22 but have come back and eaten and drunk where he forbade you to eat and drink, your corpse wilnever reach the tomb of your ancestors." '	22 puisque tu es revenu sur tes pas et que tu as mangé ici du pain et bu de l’eau, alors que tu avais reçu l’ordre de ne pas manger ni boire, ton cadavre n’entrera pas dans le tombeau de tes pères.”
23 After he had eaten and drunk, the prophet saddled the donkey for him, and he turned about and wentaway.	23 Après qu’ils eurent mangé et bu, le prophète qui l’avait ramené lui sella son âne
24 A lion met him on the road and killed him; his corpse lay stretched out on the road; the donkey stoodthere beside it; the lion stood by the corpse too.	24 et l’homme partit. Un lion le rencontra sur le chemin et le mit à mort. Son cadavre resta là sur le chemin, l’âne ne le quitta pas et le lion aussi resta à côté du corps.
25 People going by saw the corpse lying on the road and the lion standing by the corpse, and went andspoke about it in the town where the old prophet lived.	25 Des gens qui passaient par là virent le cadavre sur le chemin et le lion qui se tenait à côté, ils rentrèrent chez eux et en parlèrent dans la ville où habitait le vieux prophète
26 When the prophet who had made the man turn back heard about it, he said, 'That is the man of Godwho defied Yahweh's command! Yahweh has handed him over to the lion, which has mauled and kil ed him, justas Yahweh had foretold it would.'	26 qui l’avait détourné de son chemin. Dès que le prophète le sut, il dit: “C’est l’homme de Dieu qui a désobéi à l’ordre de Yahvé, et Yahvé l’a livré au lion qui l’a déchiré et mis à mort selon la parole que Yahvé lui avait dite.”
27 He said to his sons, 'Saddle the donkey for me,' and they saddled it.	27 Il s’adressa aussitôt à ses fils: “Sellez-moi mon âne”, leur dit-il. Ils le lui sellèrent.
28 He set off and found the man's corpse lying on the road with the donkey and the lion standing besidethe corpse; the lion had neither eaten the corpse nor mauled the donkey.	28 Il s’en alla et trouva le cadavre au travers du chemin, avec l’âne et le lion qui étaient toujours là de chaque côté. Le lion n’avait pas dévoré le corps, il n’avait pas non plus déchiré l’âne.
29 The prophet lifted the corpse of the man of God and put it on the donkey and brought it back to thetown where he lived to hold mourning for him and bury him.	29 Le prophète souleva le cadavre de l’homme de Dieu, le mit sur son âne et le ramena; quand il eût regagné la ville il se chargea du deuil et de l’enterrement.
30 He laid the corpse in his own tomb, and they raised the mourning cry for him, 'Alas, my brother!'	30 Il déposa le cadavre dans son propre tombeau et l’on fit sur lui le deuil: “Hélas, mon frère!”
31 After burying him, the prophet said to his sons, 'When I die, bury me in the same tomb as the man ofGod, lay my bones beside his.	31 Après qu’il l’eut mis au tombeau, il dit à ses fils: “Quand je serai mort, vous me déposerez dans le tombeau où l’on a enterré l’homme de Dieu. Vous déposerez mes os à côté des siens.
32 For the word he uttered at Yahweh's command against the altar of Bethel and against al the shrinesof the high places in the towns of Samaria will certainly come true.'	32 Car, je vous le dis, elle se réalisera la malédiction qu’il a prononcée sur l’ordre de Yahvé contre l’autel de Béthel et contre tous les sanctuaires de Hauts-Lieux des villes de Samarie.”
33 Jeroboam did not give up his wicked ways after this incident, but went on appointing priests for thehigh places from the common people. He consecrated as priests of the high places any who wished to be.	33 Malgré cela, Jéroboam ne se détourna pas de sa mauvaise conduite. Il recommença à choisir des prêtres parmi le peuple pour les Hauts-Lieux; il instituait prêtres tous ceux qui le désiraient et ils faisaient partie des prêtres des Hauts-Lieux.
34 Such conduct made the House of Jeroboam a sinful House, and caused its ruin and extinction fromthe face of the earth.	34 Ce fut une cause de péché pour la maison de Jéroboam, à cause de cela elle a été détruite et retranchée de la terre.
