1 King Solomon loved many foreign women: not only Pharaoh's daughter but Moabites, Edomites,Sidonians and Hittites,	1 Ma il re Salomone amò grandemente molte donne straniere, e anche la figliuola di Faraone, e delle donne di Moab, e di Ammon, e dell'Idumea, e di Sidone, e del paese di Heth,
2 from those peoples of whom Yahweh had said to the Israelites, 'You are not to go among them northey among you, or they wil be sure to sway your hearts to their own gods.' But Solomon was deeply attached tothem.	2 Nazioni, delle quali avea detto il Signore a' figliuoli d Israele: Voi non prenderete delle lor donne, e non darete loro delle vostre; perocché infallibilmente elleno pervertiranno i vostri cuori, per farvi seguire i loro dei. A tali donne adunque si unì Salomone con ardentissimo affetto.
3 He had seven hundred wives of royal rank and three hundred concubines.	3 Ed ebbe settecento mogli quasi regine, e trecento concubine: e queste, donne gli pervertirono il cuore.
4 When Solomon grew old his wives swayed his heart to other gods; and his heart was not whol y withYahweh his God as his father David's had been.	4 Ed essendo egli già vecchio, fu per opera delle donne depravato il cuore di lui sino a farlo andar dietro a dei stranieri; e il cuore di lui non fu sincero col Signore Dio suo, come fu il cuore di Davidde suo padre.
5 Solomon became a fol ower of Astarte, the goddess of the Sidonians, and of Milcom, the Ammoniteabomination.	5 Ma Salomone rendea culto ad Astarte dea de' Sidonj, e a Moloch idolo degli Ammoniti.
6 He did what was displeasing to Yahweh, and was not a wholehearted fol ower of Yahweh, as his fatherDavid had been.	6 E fece Salomone quello, che non piaceva al Signore, e non perseverò in seguire il Signore, come fece Davidde suo padre.
7 Then it was that Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, on the mountain tothe east of Jerusalem, and to Milcom, the abomination of the Ammonites.	7 Allora fu, che Salomone eresse un adoratorio a Chamos, idolo di Moab, sul monte, che sta dirimpetto a Gerusalemme, e a Moloch, idolo de' figliuoli di Ammon.
8 He did the same for al his foreign wives, who offered incense and sacrifice to their gods.	8 E la stessa cosa fece per tutte le sue mogli straniere, le quali bruciavano incensi, e sagrificavano agli dei loro.
9 Yahweh was angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from Yahweh, God of Israel, whohad twice appeared to him	9 Il Signore pertanto si sdegnò contro Salomone, perchè l'animo di lui si era alienato dal Signore Dio d'Israele, il quale eragli apparito per due volte,
10 and had forbidden him to fol ow other gods; but he did not carry out Yahweh's order.	10 E lo avea ammonito intorno a questo di non andar dietro agli dei stranieri; ma egli non osservò il comando del Signore.
11 Yahweh therefore said to Solomon, 'Since you have behaved like this and have not kept my covenantor the laws which I laid down for you, I shall tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.	11 Disse adunque a Salomone il Signore: Perchè tale (peccato) è in te, e non hai mantenuto il mio patto, e gli ordini, ch'io ti ho dati, io squarcerò, e spezzerò il tuo regno, e darollo ad un tuo servo.
12 For your father David's sake, however, I shal not do this during your lifetime, but shal tear it out ofyour son's hands.	12 Ma nol farò io vivente te, per amor di Davidde tuo padre: io lo spezzerò tralle mani del tuo figliuolo,
13 Even so, I shall not tear the whole kingdom from him. For the sake of my servant David, and for thesake of Jerusalem which I have chosen, I shal leave your son one tribe.'	13 E non torrò a lui tutto il regno, ma una tribù darò al tuo figliuolo, per amor di Davidde mio servo, e di Gerusalemme eletta da me.
14 Yahweh raised an enemy against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite, of the kingly stock of Edom.	14 Or il Signore suscitò un nemico a Salomone, Adad Idumeo della stirpe reale, che era nell'Idumea.
15 After David had crushed Edom, Joab the army commander had gone to bury the dead and hadslaughtered the entire male population of Edom	15 Imperocché essendo Davidde nell'Idumea, ed essendo andato Gioab capitano delle genti da guerra a dar sepoltura a quelli, che eran rimasti uccisi, e ad uccidere tutti i maschi dell'Idumea
16 (Joab stayed there with al Israel for six months until he had exterminated the entire male populationof Edom),	16 (Conciossiachè per sei mesi ivi si trattenne Gioab, e tutto Israele, affine di porre a morte tutti i maschi dell'Idumea),
17 but Hadad with a number of Edomites in his father's service had fled to Egypt. Hadad had been only aboy at the time.	17 Lo stesso Adad se ne fuggì accompagnato da altri Idumei servi del padre suo, per andar in Egitto: e Adad era di poca età.
18 They set out from Midian, and on reaching Paran, took a number of men from Paran with them andwent on to Egypt, to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, who provided him with a house, undertook to maintain him, andassigned him an estate.	18 E questi partitisi da Madian, giunsero a Pharan, e preser seco gente di Pharan, ed entrati in Egitto si presentarono a Faraone re dell'Egitto, il quale diede a lui casa, e vitto, e gli assegnò de' terreni.
19 Hadad became a great favourite of Pharaoh who gave him his own wife's sister in marriage, the sisterof the Great Lady Tahpenes.	19 E Adad s'ingrazianì talmente con Faraone, che questi gli diede per moglie una sorella germana della regina Taphnes sua moglie.
20 The sister of Tahpenes bore him his son Genubath whom Tahpenes brought up in Pharaoh's palace,Genubath living in Pharaoh's palace with Pharaoh's own children.	20 E dalla sorella di Tuphnes ebbe egli il figliuolo Genubath, il quale da Taphnes fu allevato nella casa di Faraone; onde Genubath abitava in casa di Faraone co' figliuoli del re.
21 But when news reached Hadad in Egypt that David had fal en asleep with his ancestors and that Joabthe army commander was dead, he said to Pharaoh, 'Give me leave to go that I may return to my own country.'	21 Or avendo Adad sentito in Egitto, come Davidde si era addormentato co' padri suoi, e che Gioab capitano delle milizie era morto, disse a Faraone: Dammi licenza, ch'io men vada al mio paese.
22 'What do you lack here with me,' Pharaoh said, 'for you to want to go back to your country?' 'Nothing,'he replied, 'but please let me go.'Hence the harm which Hadad caused: he loathed Israel and ruled Edom.	22 E Faraone gli disse: Che ti manca in mia casa, onde tu abbi da cercare di andartene al tuo paese? E quegli rispose: Niente; ma ti prego di darmi licenza.
23 God raised a second enemy against Solomon, Rezon son of Eliada. He had fled from his master,Hadadezer king of Zobah.	23 Suscitò ancora Dio a lui un altro nimico, Hazon figliuolo di Eliada, il quale avea abbandonato Adarezer re di Soba suo signore.
24 A number of men having ral ied to him, he became leader of a marauding band (which was thenmassacred by David). Rezon captured Damascus and settled there and became king of Damascus.	24 Ed egli adunò gente contro di lui, e diventò capitano di ladroni, ai quali Davidde faceva aspra guerra; ed egli no se n' andarono a Damasco, e ivi abitarono, e a Razon diedero il regno di Damasco.
25 He was hostile to Israel as long as Solomon lived.	25 Ed egli fu nemico d'Israele per tutto il tempo di Salomone: e questo oltre il flagello di Adad, e l'odio di lui contro Israele: egli regnò nella Siria.
26 Jeroboam was the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah; the name of his mother, a widow, wasZeruah; he was in Solomon's service but revolted against the king.	26 Parimente Geroboam figliuolo di Nabath, Ephratheo, di Sareda, servo di Salomone, di cui la madre vedova chiamavasi Sarva, si ribellò contro il re.
27 This is the account of his revolt. Solomon was building the Mil o and closing the breach in the City ofDavid his father.	27 E la causa, per cui si ribellò contro di lui, ella è questa, perchè Salomone edificò Mello, e colmò la voragine della città di Davidde suo padre.
28 Now this Jeroboam was a man of great energy; Solomon, noticing how the young man set about hiswork, put him in charge of al the forced labour of the House of Joseph.	28 Or Geroboam era uom valoroso, e possente, e Salomone veggendolo giovane di buona indole, e attivo, gli avea data la soprintendenza de' tributi di tutta la casa di Giuseppe.
29 One day when Jeroboam had gone out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah of Shiloh accosted him onthe road. Ahijah was wearing a new cloak; the two of them were in the open country by themselves.	29 Or in quel tempo egli avvenne, che uscendo Geroboam da Gerusalemme, si imbattè per istrada in Ahia di Silo, profeta, il quale era coperto di un mantello nuovo: ed erano loro due soli nella campagna.
30 Ahijah took the new cloak which he was wearing and tore it into twelve strips,	30 E Ahia preso il suo mantello nuovo, che aveva addosso, lo spezzò in dodici parti.
31 saying to Jeroboam: 'Take ten strips for yourself, for Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "I am going totear the kingdom from Solomon's hand and give ten tribes to you.	31 E disse a Geroboam: Prendi perte dieci pezzi; perocché così dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Ecco, che io spezzerò tralle mani di Salomone il regno, e daronne a te dieci tribù.
32 He wil keep one tribe for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which Ihave chosen out of al the tribes of Israel;	32 Ma una tribù resterà a lui per amor di Davidde mio servo, e la città di Gerusalemme eletta da me fra tutte le tribù d'Israele:
33 for he has forsaken me to worship Astarte the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab,Milcom the god of the Ammonites; he has not fol owed my ways by doing what I regard as right, or by keepingmy laws and ordinances as his father David did.	33 Perchè egli mi ha abbandonato, e ha renduto culto ad Astarte dea de' Sidonj, e a Chamos dio di Moab, e a Moloch dio de' figliuoli di Ammon; e non ha camminato nelle mie vie, per adempire quello, che è giusto dinanzi a me, e i miei comandamenti, e le mie leggi, come Davidde suo padre.
34 But it is not from his hands that I wil take the kingdom, since I have made him a prince for as long ashe lives, for the sake of my servant David who kept my commandments and laws.	34 Ma nulla parte del regno terrò dalle mani di lui; ma farò, che egli il governi per tutto il tempo di sua vita, per amor di Davidde mio servo eletto da me, il quale osservò i miei comandamenti, e le mie leggi.
35 I shal , however, take the kingdom from the hand of his son, and I shal give it to you, that is, the tentribes.	35 Ma terrò il regno dalle mani del suo figliuolo, e a te darò dieci tribù:
36 I shal give one tribe to his son, so that my servant David may always have a lamp in my presence inJerusalem, the city which I have chosen as a dwel ing-place for my name.	36 E al figliuolo di lui darò una tribù, affinchè resti pel mio servo Davidde un piccol lume in perpetuo dinanzi a me in Gerusalemme, città eletta da me, per chè ivi si onorasse il nome mio.
37 You nonetheless I shal appoint to rule over as much as you wish, and you will be king of Israel.	37 E io prenderò te, e regnerai sopra tutto quello, che tu più ami, e sarai re sopra Israele.
38 If you listen to al my orders and follow my ways, by doing what I regard as right and by keeping mylaws and commandments as my servant David did, then I shal be with you and shal build you as enduring adynasty as the one which I built for David. I shall give Israel to you,	38 Se tu adunque sarai attento a tutto quello, ch'io ti ordinerò, e camminerai nelle mie vie, e farai quello, che è giusto dinanzi a me, osservando i miei comandamenti, e le mie leggi, come fece Davidde mio servo, io sarò con te, e ti edificherò una casa permanente, come edificai la casa di Davidde, e ti farò signore d'Israele.
39 and I shall humble the descendants of David, but not for ever." '	39 E umilierò in questo la stirpe di Davidde, ma non per sempre.
40 Solomon tried to kil Jeroboam but he made off and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and heremained in Egypt until Solomon's death.	40 Salomone adunque tentò di far uccidere Geroboam; ma egli andò a rifugiarsi in Egitto presso di Sesac re dell Egitto, e stette in Egitto fino alla morte di Salomone.
41 The rest of the history of Solomon, his entire career, his wisdom, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of Solomon?	41 Or tutte le altre geste di Salomone, e tutto quello, che egli operò, e la sua sapienza, tutto sta scritto nel libro dei Giorni di Salomone.
42 Solomon's reign in Jerusalem over al Israel lasted forty years.	42 E il tempo, che Salomone regnò in Gerusalemme sopra tutto Israele, fu di quarant' anni.
43 When Solomon fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David his father; his sonRehoboam succeeded him.	43 E Salomone si addormentò co' Padri suoi, e fu sepolto nella città di Davidde suo padre; e succedette a lui nel regno Roboam suo figliuolo.
