2 Samuel 20

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Now there happened to be a scoundrel there called Sheba son of Bichri, a Benjaminite, who soundedthe trumpet and shouted: We have no share in David, we have no heritage in the son of Jesse. Every man to histents, O Israel!	1 Casualmente se encontraba allí un malvado llamado Seba, hijo de Bicrí, un benjaminita. El tocó la trompeta y exclamó: «Nosotros no tenemos parte con David ni herencia común con el hijo de Jesé, ¡Cada uno a su carpa, Israel!».
2 At this al the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba son of Bichri. But the men of Judahstuck close to their king, from the Jordan al the way to Jerusalem.	2 Todos los hombres de Israel se apartaron de David para seguir a Seba, hijo de Bicrí; pero los hombres de Judá se mantuvieron unidos a su rey, desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén.
3 David returned to his palace in Jerusalem. The king took the ten concubines, whom he had left to lookafter the palace, and put them under guard. He provided for their upkeep but never went near them again; theywere shut away until the day they died, widows, as it were, of a living man.	3 David entró a su casa en Jerusalén. Entonces el rey tomó a las diez concubinas que había dejado al cuidado de la casa y las puso en un recinto bien custodiado. El proveía a su mantenimiento, pero no tuvo más relaciones con ellas, y así estuvieron recluidas, viviendo como viudas, hasta el día de su muerte.
4 The king said to Amasa, 'Summon me the men of Judah and be here yourself within three days.'	4 El rey dijo a Amasá: «Convócame a los hombres de Judá en tres días. Luego preséntate aquí».
5 Amasa went off to summon Judah, but he took longer than the time fixed by David.	5 Amasá fue a convocar a Judá, pero se excedió del plazo que David le había fijado.
6 David then said to Abishai, 'Sheba son of Bichri is now in a position to do us more damage even thanAbsalom. Take your master's retainers and be after him, before he can reach any fortified towns and elude us.'	6 Entonces David dijo a Abisai: «Ahora Seba, hijo de Bicrí, va a causarnos más daño que Absalón. Recluta tú mismo a los servidores de tu señor y persíguelo, no sea que ocupe algunas plazas fuertes y se nos escape».
7 Joab, the Cherethites, the Pelethites and al the champions took the field under Abishai, setting offfrom Jerusalem in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.	7 Así partieron detrás de Abisai los hombres de Joab, los quereteos, los peleteos y todos los Guerreros, saliendo de Jerusalén en persecución de Seba, hijo de Bicrí.
8 They were near the great stone at Gibeon when Amasa met them, coming the other way. Joab waswearing his uniform, over which he had buckled on a sword hanging from his waist in its scabbard; the swordcame out and fel .	8 Cuando estaban junto a la piedra grande que hay en Gabaón, Amasá se presentó delante de ellos. Joab, que iba vestido con su indumentaria militar, llevaba encima de ella un cinturón con una espada envainada y ajustada a la cintura. Y cuando se adelantó, se le cayó la espada.
9 Joab said to Amasa, 'Are you well, brother?' and, with his right hand, took Amasa by the beard to kisshim.	9 Joab dijo a Amasá: «¿Estás bien, hermano?», y le tomó la barba con la mano derecha para besarlo.
10 Amasa paid no attention to the sword, which Joab had now picked up, and Joab struck him with it inthe bel y, spil ing his entrails al over the ground. He did not need to strike a second blow; and Amasa died, whileJoab and Abishai hurried on in pursuit of Sheba son of Bichri.	10 Pero Amasá no había prestado atención a la espada que tenía Joab en la mano izquierda, y este lo hirió en el bajo vientre, desparramando sus entrañas por el suelo. 11 One of Joab's men stood on guard beside Amasa, shouting, 'Whoever is on Joab's side, whoever isfor David, fol ow Joab!'	11 Uno de los jóvenes de Joab se paró al lado de Amasá y exclamó: «El que es partidario de Joab y está con David, ¡que siga a Joab!».
12 Amasa meanwhile lay wal owing in his blood in the middle of the road. Seeing that everyone wasstopping, the man dragged Amasa off the road into the field and threw a cloak over him, having realised thateveryone passing would stop.	12 Mientras tanto, Amasá, bañado en sangre, se revolcaba en medio del camino. Al ver que todos se detenían, aquel hombre retiró a Amasá del camino y arrojó sobre él su manto, porque veía que todos los que llegaban junto a él se paraban.
13 Once Amasa had been taken off the road, the men all carried on, fol owing Joab in pursuit of Shebason of Bichri.	13 Y una vez que lo apartó del camino, todos siguieron adelante detrás de Joab, para perseguir a Seba, hijo de Bicrí.
14 Sheba crossed al the tribes of Israel as far as Abel Beth-Maacah, and the Bichrites al . . . Theyformed up and fol owed him.	14 Seba recorrió todas las tribus de Israel hasta Abel Bet Maacá, y todos los del clan de Bicrí se reunieron y también lo siguieron.
15 Laying siege to him in Abel Beth-Maacah, they threw up a ramp against the outer wal of the town,	15 Pero los otros fueron a sitiarlo en Abel Bet Maacá y levantaron contra la ciudad un terraplén que llegaba al antemuro. 16 while the whole army accompanying Joab undermined the wal to bring it down. A quick-wittedwoman shouted from the town, 'Listen!	16 una mujer sagaz gritó desde la ciudad: «¡Escuchen, escuchen! Díganle por favor a Joab que se acerque aquí, para que yo le hable».
17 Listen! Say to Joab, "Come here, I want to speak to you." ' He came forward, and the woman said,'Are you Joab?' 'I am', he replied. She said, 'Listen to what your servant says.' 'I am listening,' he replied.	17 El se le acercó y la mujer le dijo: «¿Tú eres Joab?». «Sí, soy yo», respondió él. Ella continuó diciendo: «¡Escucha las palabras de tu servidora!». Joab respondió: «Te escucho».
18 She then spoke as follows, 'In olden days people used to say, "Abel and Dan are where you shouldenquire	18 Entonces la mujer habló en estos términos: «Antes se solía decir: "Que se consulte a los de Abel, y asunto concluido".
19 whether a tradition established by the faithful of Israel has final y died out." And yet you are trying todestroy a town, a metropolis of Israel. Why do you want to devour Yahweh's heritage?'	19 Nosotros somos de lo más pacífico y leal en Israel. ¡Y tú pretendes destruir una ciudad que es madre en Israel! ¿Por qué quieres aniquilar la herencia del Señor?».
20 'The last thing I want to do', said Joab, 'is either to devour or to destroy.	20 Pero Joab respondió: «¡Lejos de mí destruir y arruinar!
21 This is not the issue; a man from the highlands of Ephraim, cal ed Sheba son of Bichri, has revoltedagainst the king, against David. Hand that one man over and I wil raise the siege of the town.' 'Very wel ,' thewoman said to Joab, 'his head wil be thrown over the wal to you.'	21 No se trata de eso; lo que pasa es que un hombre de la montaña de Efraím, llamado Seba, hijo de Bicrí, ha alzado su mano contra el rey David. Entréguenlo a él solo, y yo me retiraré de la ciudad». La mujer dijo a Joab: «En seguida te arrojarán su cabeza por encima del muro».
22 The woman went and spoke to al the people as her wisdom dictated. They cut off the head of Shebason of Bichri and threw it down to Joab. He had the trumpet sounded and they withdrew from the town and allwent home, while Joab himself went back to the king in Jerusalem.	22 La mujer se dirigió a todo el pueblo con tanta cordura, que ellos le cortaron la cabeza a Seba, hijo de Bicrí, y se la arrojaron a Joab. Este hizo sonar la trompeta y levantaron el asedio, yéndose cada uno a su carpa. Joab, por su parte, se volvió a Jerusalén, junto al rey.
23 Joab commanded the whole army; Benaiah son of Jehoiada commanded the Cherethites andPelethites;	23 Joab comandaba todo el ejército de Israel; Benaías, hijo de Iehoiadá, estaba al frente de los queretos y peleteos.
24 Adoram was in charge of forced labour; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was herald;	24 Adoram era el encargado del reclutamiento de trabajadores; Josafat, hijo de Ajilud, el archivista;
25 Shiya was secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;	25 Seiá, el secretario; Sadoc y Abiatar, los sacerdotes.
26 also: Ira the Jairite was David's priest.	26 También Irá, el jairita, era sacerdote de David.
