1 There was a certain man from Rama-thaim, Elkanah by name, a Zuphite from the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.	1 Houve um homem Efrateu de Ramatain — Sofim, do monte de Efraim , cujo nome era Elcana, filho de Jeroão, filho de Eliu, filho de Toú, filho de Suf.
2 He had two wives, one named Hannah, the other Peninnah; Peninnah had children, but Hannah was childless.	2 Teve duas mulheres, uma chamada Ana, e outra chamada Fenena. Fenena teve filhos; Ana, porém, não os tinha.
3 This man regularly went on pilgrimage from his city to worship the LORD of hosts and to sacrifice to him at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were ministering as priests of the LORD.	3 Este homem, nos dias determinados, subia da sua cidade para adorar e oferecer sacrifícios ao Senhor dos exércitos em Silo. Assistiam ali dois filhos de Heli: Ofni e Finéias sacerdotes do Senhor.
4 When the day came for Elkanah to offer sacrifice, he used to give a portion each to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters,	4 No dia em que Elcana oferecia um sacrifício, dava uma porção dobrada, porções (da vítima) a Fenena, sua mulher, e a todos os seus filhos e filhas.
5 but a double portion to Hannah because he loved her, though the LORD had made her barren.	5 A Ana, porém, dava uma só porção, embora a amasse. Mas o Senhor tinha-a tornado estéril.
6 Her rival, to upset her, turned it into a constant reproach to her that the LORD had left her barren.	6 A sua rival afligia-a também excessivamente, atormentava-a porque o Senhor a tinha tornado estéril.
7 This went on year after year; each time they made their pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the LORD, Peninnah would approach her, and Hannah would weep and refuse to eat.	7 Elcana assim fazia todos os anos, quando chegava o tempo de irem ao templo do Senhor, e Fenena, do mesmo modo a provocava. Então, Ana chorava, e não comia.
8 Her husband Elkanah used to ask her: "Hannah, why do you weep, and why do you refuse to eat? Why do you grieve? Am I not more to you than ten sons?"	8 Dizia-lhe Eleana, seu marido; Ana, por que choras? não comes? por que se aflige o teu coração? porventura não sou eu melhor para ti, do que dez filhos?
9 Hannah rose after one such meal at Shiloh, and presented herself before the LORD; at the time, Eli the priest was sitting on a chair near the doorpost of the LORD'S temple.	9 Ana levantou-se, depois de ter comido e bebido em Silo. Estando o pontífice Heli sentado na sua cadeira à porta do templo do Senhor,
10 In her bitterness she prayed to the LORD, weeping copiously,	10 Ana, com o coração cheio do amargura, orou ao Senhor, derramando copiosas lágrimas,
11 and she made a vow, promising: "O LORD of hosts, if you look with pity on the misery of your handmaid, if you remember me and do not forget me, if you give your handmaid a male child, I will give him to the LORD for as long as he lives; neither wine nor liquor shall he drink, and no razor shall ever touch his head."	11 e fez um voto, dizendo: Senhor dos exércitos, se te dignares olhar para a aflição da tua serva, se te lembrares de mim, se não esqueceres a tua serva e lhe deres um filho varão, eu o darei ao Senhor durante todos os dias da sua vida, e não passará navalha sobre a sua cabeça.
12 As she remained long at prayer before the LORD, Eli watched her mouth,	12 Aconteceu que, enquanto ela multiplicava as preces na presença do Senhor, Heli observava o movimento dos seus lábios.
13 for Hannah was praying silently; though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. Eli, thinking her drunk,	13 Ana falava no seu coração, e apenas se moviam os seus lábios, mas não se lhe ouvia palavra alguma. Julgou pois Heli que ela estava embriagada,
14 said to her, "How long will you make a drunken show of yourself? Sober up from your wine!"	14 e disse-lhe: Até quando estarás tu embriagada? Digere um pouco o vinho de que estás cheia.
15 "It isn't that, my lord," Hannah answered. "I am an unhappy woman. I have had neither wine nor liquor; I was only pouring out my troubles to the LORD.	15 Ana, respondendo, disse: Não é assim, meu senhor; eu sou uma mulher muito infeliz, não bebi vinho, nem outra coisa que possa embriagar, mas dilatei a minha alma na presença do Senhor.
16 Do not think your handmaid a ne'er-do-well; my prayer has been prompted by my deep sorrow and misery."	16 Não tomes a tua escrava por uma das filhas de Belial, porque pela grandeza da minha dor e da minha aflição é que falei até agora.
17 Eli said, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."	17 Então Heli disse-lhe: Vai em paz, e o Deus de Israel te conceda a súplica que lhe fizeste.
18 She replied, "Think kindly of your maidservant," and left. She went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband, and no longer appeared downcast.	18 Ela respondeu: Praza a Deus que a tua escrava ache graça aos teus olhos. E a mulher foi pelo seu caminho, e comeu, e o seu rosto já não era o mesmo.
19 Early the next morning they worshiped before the LORD, and then returned to their home in Ramah. When Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, the LORD remembered her.	19 Levantaram-se de manhã, prostraram-se diante do Senhor, e voltaram para sua casa, em Rama. Elcana conheceu sua mulher Ana, e o Senhor lembrou-se dela.
20 She conceived, and at the end of her term bore a son whom she called Samuel, since she had asked the LORD for him.	20 Assim sucedeu que, havendo Ana concebido, passado o seu tempo, deu à luz um filho, a que pôs o nome de Samuel, porque o tinha pedido ao Senhor.
21 The next time her husband Elkanah was going up with the rest of his household to offer the customary sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vows,	21 Subiu Elcana, seu marido, com toda a sua família, para oferecer ao Senhor o sacrifício anual e cumprir o seu voto.
22 Hannah did not go, explaining to her husband, "Once the child is weaned, I will take him to appear before the LORD and to remain there forever; I will offer him as a perpetual nazirite."	22 Ana não foi, porque disse ao seu marido: Eu não irei, antes que o menino esteja desleitado; então o levarei, para que apareça na presença do Senhor, e lá fique para sempre.
23 Her husband Elkanah answered her: "Do what you think best; wait until you have weaned him. Only, may the LORD bring your resolve to fulfillment!" And so she remained at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.	23 Elcana, seu marido, disse-lhe: Faze o que te parecer bem; fica até o desleitares, e eu rogo ao Senhor que cumpra a sua palavra. Ficou pois Ana em casa, e deu leite a seu filho, até que o desleitou.
24 Once he was weaned, she brought him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and presented him at the temple of the LORD in Shiloh.	24 Depois de o ter desleitado, levou-o consigo, e três novilhos, três alqueires de farinha, um cântaro de vinho, e levou-o à casa do Senhor em Silo. O menino era ainda pequenino.
25 After the boy's father had sacrificed the young bull, Hannah, his mother, approached Eli	25 Sacrificaram um novilho, e apresentaram o menino a Heli.
26 and said: "Pardon, my lord! As you live my lord, I am the woman who stood near you here, praying to the LORD.	26 Ana disse: Ouve-me, senhor meu, por tua vida. Eu sou aquela mulher que esteve aqui em tua presença orando ao Senhor.
27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD granted my request.	27 Eu orei por este menino, e o Senhor concedeu-me a petição que lhe fiz.
28 Now I, in turn, give him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD." She left him there;	28 Portanto eu também o dou ao Senhor; durante todos os dias da sua vida, ele será dado ao Senhor. E adoraram ali o Senhor. Ana orou, dizendo:
