1 There was a certain man from Rama-thaim, Elkanah by name, a Zuphite from the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.	1 Vi fu un uomo della montagna di Ephraim, della città di Ramathaim Sophim, che avea nome Elcana, figliuolo di Jeroham, figliuolo di Eliu, figliuolo di Thohu, figliuolo di Suph, Ephrateo:
2 He had two wives, one named Hannah, the other Peninnah; Peninnah had children, but Hannah was childless.	2 Ed ebbe due mogli, una per nome Anna, la seconda per nome Phenenna. E Phenenna avea figliuoli, ma Anna non ne aveva.
3 This man regularly went on pilgrimage from his city to worship the LORD of hosts and to sacrifice to him at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were ministering as priests of the LORD.	3 E quest'uomo andava nei giorni determinati dalla sua città ad adorare, e offerir sacrifizii al Signore degli eserciti a Silo: e ivi erano i due figliuoli di Eli, Ophni, e Phinees, sacerdoti del Signore.
4 When the day came for Elkanah to offer sacrifice, he used to give a portion each to his wife Peninnah and to all her sons and daughters,	4 Venuto adunque un dì (solenne) Elcana offerse sacrifizio, e diede le parti a Phenenna sua moglie, e a tutti i figliuoli di lei, e figliuole:
5 but a double portion to Hannah because he loved her, though the LORD had made her barren.	5 Diede poi una sola parte ad Anna, afflitto, perchè ei l’amava: e il Signore l’avea fatta sterile.
6 Her rival, to upset her, turned it into a constant reproach to her that the LORD had left her barren.	6 Ed ella era anche inquietata, e tormentata dalla sua rivale, a segno che questa le rinfacciava la sterilità mandatale dal Signore:
7 This went on year after year; each time they made their pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the LORD, Peninnah would approach her, and Hannah would weep and refuse to eat.	7 E così faceva tutti gli anni, allorché tornava la stagione di andare al tempio del Signore: e così la tribolava, ed ella piangeva, e non prendeva cibo.
8 Her husband Elkanah used to ask her: "Hannah, why do you weep, and why do you refuse to eat? Why do you grieve? Am I not more to you than ten sons?"	8 Ma Elcana suo marito le disse: Anna perchè piangi tu? e perchè non mangi? e perchè si affanna il cuor tuo? non son'io qualche cosa di meglio per te, che dieci figliuoli?
9 Hannah rose after one such meal at Shiloh, and presented herself before the LORD; at the time, Eli the priest was sitting on a chair near the doorpost of the LORD'S temple.	9 E Anna si alzò dopo aver mangiato, e bevuto in Silo. E sedendo Heli sommo sacerdote sulla sua sedia davanti alla porta del tempio del Signore,
10 In her bitterness she prayed to the LORD, weeping copiously,	10 Anna col cuore amareggiato andò a pregare il Signore, spargendo gran copia di lacrime,
11 and she made a vow, promising: "O LORD of hosts, if you look with pity on the misery of your handmaid, if you remember me and do not forget me, if you give your handmaid a male child, I will give him to the LORD for as long as he lives; neither wine nor liquor shall he drink, and no razor shall ever touch his head."	11 E fece voto, e disse: Signor degli eserciti, se tu volgerai l’occhio a mirar l’afflizione della tua serva, e ti ricorderai di me, e non lascerai dimenticata la tua serva, e darai alla tua schiava un figlio maschio, io l'offerirò al Signore per tutti i giorni della sua vita, e il rasojo non passerà sulla testa di lui.
12 As she remained long at prayer before the LORD, Eli watched her mouth,	12 E avvenne, che, pregando ella, e ripregando dinanzi al Signore, Heli la stava osservando.
13 for Hannah was praying silently; though her lips were moving, her voice could not be heard. Eli, thinking her drunk,	13 Or Anna parlava in cuor suo: e si movevano solamente le sue labbra, ma non si sentiva niente la voce. Credette perciò Heli, che ella fosse briaca:
14 said to her, "How long will you make a drunken show of yourself? Sober up from your wine!"	14 E le disse: Sino a quando durerà la tua ebbrezza? Digerisci un po' il vino, di cui se' zeppa.
15 "It isn't that, my lord," Hannah answered. "I am an unhappy woman. I have had neither wine nor liquor; I was only pouring out my troubles to the LORD.	15 Rispose Anna: Non è cosi, signor mio: perocché io sono una donna troppo infelice, e non ho bevuto nè vino, nè altra cosa, che possa inebriare, ma stava spandendo l’anima mia nel cospetto del Signore.
16 Do not think your handmaid a ne'er-do-well; my prayer has been prompted by my deep sorrow and misery."	16 Non pensare, che la tua serva sia quasi una delle figlie di Belial: perocché la grandezza del dolore, e dell' afflizione mia mi ha fatto parlare sino adesso.
17 Eli said, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."	17 Allora Heli le disse: Va in pace, e il Dio d’lsraele ti conceda l'effetto della petizione, che hai fatto a lui.
18 She replied, "Think kindly of your maidservant," and left. She went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband, and no longer appeared downcast.	18 Ed ella disse: Piaccia a Dio, che la tua serva trovi grazia negli occhi tuoi. E se n'andò la donna pel suo viaggio, e mangiò, e il suo volto non fu più or di un colore, or di un altro.
19 Early the next morning they worshiped before the LORD, and then returned to their home in Ramah. When Elkanah had relations with his wife Hannah, the LORD remembered her.	19 E la mattina alzatisi fecero adorazione dinanzi al Signore, e partirono, e giunsero a casa loro a Ramatha. Ed Elcana conobbe Anna sua moglie: e il Signore si ricordò di lei.
20 She conceived, and at the end of her term bore a son whom she called Samuel, since she had asked the LORD for him.	20 E dopo un giro di giorni Anna concepì e partorì un figlio, e gli pose nome Samuele, perchè lo avea domandato al Signore.
21 The next time her husband Elkanah was going up with the rest of his household to offer the customary sacrifice to the LORD and to fulfill his vows,	21 Andò poi Elcana suo marito con tutta la sua famiglia per immolare al Signore ostia solenne, (e sciorre) il suo voto:
22 Hannah did not go, explaining to her husband, "Once the child is weaned, I will take him to appear before the LORD and to remain there forever; I will offer him as a perpetual nazirite."	22 Ma Anna non andò, perchè diss'ella a suo marito: Io non andrò per sino a tanto che il bambino sia divezzato, e io lo conduca e lo presenti al cospetto del Signore, ed egli ivi si resti per sempre.
23 Her husband Elkanah answered her: "Do what you think best; wait until you have weaned him. Only, may the LORD bring your resolve to fulfillment!" And so she remained at home and nursed her son until she had weaned him.	23 E dissele il suo marito Elcana: Fa quello che ti pare, e rimanti fino a tanto che lo divezzi: e io prego il Signore, che adempia la sua parola. La donna adunque rimase a casa, e allattò il suo figliuolo sin che fu divezzato.
24 Once he was weaned, she brought him up with her, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and presented him at the temple of the LORD in Shiloh.	24 E divezzato che fu, lo menò seco, e prese tre vitelli, e tre misure di farina, e un vaso pieno di vino, e menollo alla casa del Signore a Silo. Ora il fanciullo era tuttor piccolino:
25 After the boy's father had sacrificed the young bull, Hannah, his mother, approached Eli	25 E immolarono un vitello, e presentarono il fanciullo ad Heli.
26 and said: "Pardon, my lord! As you live my lord, I am the woman who stood near you here, praying to the LORD.	26 E Anna disse: Signor mio, per l’anima tua bada a me, o signore: Io son quella donna che stava qui a te davanti, pregando il Signore.
27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD granted my request.	27 Per aver questo bambino io pregava, e il Signore mi ha conceduto la grazia che io gli domandava.
28 Now I, in turn, give him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he shall be dedicated to the LORD." She left him there;	28 Per questo io pure lo dono al Signore per tutti i giorni, pe’ quali sarà egli donato al Signore. E adorarono ivi il Signore. E Anna orò, e disse:
