1 The heads of the Levite families came up to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua, son of Nun, and to the heads of families of the other tribes of the Israelites	1 Alors les chefs de famille des Lévites s'en vinrent trouver le prêtre Eléazar, Josué, fils de Nûn, et leschefs de famille des tribus d'Israël,
2 at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, and said to them, "The LORD commanded, through Moses, that cities be given us to dwell in, with pasture lands for our livestock."	2 alors qu'on se trouvait à Silo, au pays de Canaan, et leur dirent: "Yahvé, par l'intermédiaire de Moïse,a ordonné qu'on nous donne des villes pour y demeurer, et leurs pâturages pour notre bétail."
3 Out of their own heritage, in obedience to this command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites the following cities with their pasture lands.	3 Les Israélites donnèrent donc aux Lévites, sur leur héritage, selon l'ordre de Yahvé, les villes enquestion avec leurs pâturages.
4 When the first lot among the Levites fell to the clans of the Kohathites, the descendants of Aaron the priest obtained thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.	4 On tira au sort pour les clans des Qehatites: aux fils du prêtre Aaron, d'entre les Lévites, échurenttreize villes des tribus de Juda, de Siméon et de Benjamin;
5 The rest of the Kohathites obtained ten cities by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh.	5 aux autres fils de Qehat selon leurs clans, échurent dix villes des tribus d'Ephraïm, de Dan et de lademi-tribu de Manassé.
6 The Gershonites obtained thirteen cities by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh.	6 Aux fils de Gershôn, selon leurs clans, échurent treize villes des tribus d'Issachar, d'Asher, deNephtali et de la demi-tribu de Manassé en Bashân.
7 The clans of the Merarites obtained twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.	7 Aux fils de Merari selon leurs clans, échurent douze villes des tribus de Ruben, de Gad et deZabulon.
8 These cities with their pasture lands the Israelites allotted to the Levites in obedience to the LORD'S command through Moses.	8 Les Israélites assignèrent par le sort ces villes et leurs pâturages aux Lévites, comme l'avait ordonnéYahvé par l'intermédiaire de Moïse.
9 From the tribes of the Judahites and Simeonites they designated the following cities,	9 Ils donnèrent de la tribu des fils de Juda et de la tribu des fils de Siméon les villes que voici dont lesnoms furent donnés.
10 and assigned them to the descendants of Aaron in the Kohathite clan of the Levites, since the first lot fell to them:	10 Ce fut d'abord la part des fils d'Aaron, appartenant au clan des Qehatites, aux fils de Lévi, car lepremier lot était pour eux.
11 first, Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the mountain region of Judah, with the adjacent pasture lands,	11 Ils leur donnèrent Qiryat-Arba la ville du père d'Anaq -- c'est Hébron -- dans la montagne de Juda,avec les pâturages environnants.
12 although the open country and villages belonging to the city had been given to Caleb, son of Jephunneh, as his property.	12 Mais la campagne de cette ville avec ses villages, ils les donnèrent en propriété à Caleb, fils deYephunné.
13 Thus to the descendants of Aaron the priest were given the city of asylum for homicides at Hebron, with its pasture lands; also, Libnah with its pasture lands,	13 Aux fils du prêtre Aaron, ils donnèrent Hébron, ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, avec sespâturages, ainsi que Libna et ses pâturages,
14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,	14 Yattir et ses pâturages, Eshtemoa et ses pâturages,
15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,	15 Holôn et ses pâturages, Debir et ses pâturages,
16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasture lands: nine cities from the two tribes mentioned.	16 Ashân et ses pâturages, Yutta et ses pâturages, et Bet-Shémesh et ses pâturages: neuf villes prisessur ces deux tribus.
17 From the tribe of Benjamin they obtained the four cities of Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,	17 De la tribu de Benjamin, Gabaôn et ses pâturages, Géba et ses pâturages,
18 Anathoth with its pasture lands, and Almon with its pasture lands.	18 Anatot et ses pâturages, et Almôn et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
19 These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the priestly descendants of Aaron, were thirteen in all.	19 Total des villes des prêtres fils d'Aaron: treize villes et leurs pâturages.
20 The rest of the Kohathite clans among the Levites obtained by lot, from the tribe of Ephraim, four cities.	20 Quant aux clans des fils de Qehat, aux Lévites qui restaient parmi les fils de Qehat, les villes de leurlot furent prises sur la tribu d'Ephraïm.
21 They were assigned, with its pasture lands, the city of asylum for homicides at Shechem in the mountain region of Ephraim; also Gezer with its pasture lands,	21 On leur donna Sichem, ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, avec ses pâturages, dans la montagned'Ephraïm, ainsi que Gézer et ses pâturages,
22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-horon with its pasture lands.	22 Qibçayim et ses pâturages, et Bet-Horôn et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
23 From the tribe of Dan they obtained the four cities of Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,	23 De la tribu de Dan, Elteqé et ses pâturages, Gibbetôn et ses pâturages,
24 Aijalon with its pasture lands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands;	24 Ayyalôn et ses pâturages, et Gat-Rimmôn et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
25 and from the half-tribe of Manasseh the two cities of Taanach with its pasture lands and Ibleam with its pasture lands.	25 De la demi-tribu de Manassé, Tanak et ses pâturages, et Yibleam et ses pâturages: deux villes.
26 These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the rest of the Kohathite clans were ten in all.	26 Total: dix villes avec leurs pâturages pour les clans qui restaient parmi les fils de Qehat.
27 The Gershonite clan of the Levites received from the half-tribe of Manasseh two cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Golan, with its pasture lands; and also Beth-ashtaroth with its pasture lands.	27 Aux fils de Gershôn, de clans lévitiques, on donna, de la demi-tribu de Manassé, Golân en Bashân,ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, et Ashtarot, avec leurs pâturages: deux villes.
28 From the tribe of Issachar they obtained the four cities of Kishion with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands,	28 De la tribu d'Issachar, Qishyôn et ses pâturages, Daberat et ses pâturages,
29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands, and En-gannim with its pasture lands; from the tribe of Asher,	29 Yarmut et ses pâturages, et En-Gannim et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
30 the four cities of Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,	30 De la tribu d'Asher, Mishéal et ses pâturages, Abdôn et ses pâturages,
31 Helkath with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands;	31 Helqat et ses pâturages, et Rehob et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
32 and from the tribe of Naphtali, three cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Kedesh in Galilee, with its pasture lands; also Hammath with its pasture lands, and Rakkath with its pasture lands.	32 De la tribu de Nephtali, Qédesh en Galilée, ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, avec ses pâturages,Hammot-Dor et ses pâturages, et Qartân et ses pâturages: trois villes.
33 These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the Gershonite clans were thirteen in all.	33 Total des villes des Gershonites, selon leurs clans: treize villes et leurs pâturages.
34 The Merarite clans, the last of the Levites, received from the tribe of Zebulun the four cities of Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,	34 Au clan des fils de Merari, au reste des Lévites, échurent de la tribu de Zabulon Yoqnéam et sespâturages, Qarta et ses pâturages,
35 Rimmon with its pasture lands, and Nahalal with its pasture lands;	35 Rimmôn et ses pâturages, et Nahalal et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
36 also, across the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben, four cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Bezer with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,	36 De l'autre côté du Jourdain de Jéricho, de la tribu de Ruben, Béçèr dans le désert, sur le plateau,ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, avec ses pâturages, Yahaç et ses pâturages,
37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands;	37 Qedémot et ses pâturages, et Méphaat et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
38 and from the tribe of Gad a total of four cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, also Mahanaim with its pasture lands,	38 De la tribu de Gad, Ramot en Galaad, ville de refuge pour le meurtrier, avec ses pâturages,Mahanayim et ses pâturages,
39 Heshbon with its pasture lands, and Jazer with its pasture lands.	39 Heshbôn et ses pâturages, et Yazèr et ses pâturages: quatre villes.
40 The cities which were allotted to the Merarite clans, the last of the Levites, were therefore twelve in all.	40 Total des villes qui furent le lot des fils de Merari selon leurs clans, du reste des clans lévitiques:douze villes.
41 Thus the total number of cities within the territory of the Israelites which, with their pasture lands, belonged to the Levites, was forty-eight.	41 Le nombre total des villes des Lévites au milieu du domaine des Israélites était de 48 villes avecleurs pâturages.
42 With each and every one of these cities went the pasture lands round about it.	42 Ces villes comprenaient chacune la ville et ses pâturages alentour. Il en allait ainsi pour toutes lesvilles.
43 And so the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to their fathers he would give them. Once they had conquered and occupied it,	43 C'est ainsi que Yahvé donna aux Israélites tout le pays qu'il avait juré de donner à leurs pères. Ils enprirent possession et s'y établirent.
44 the LORD gave them peace on every side, just as he had promised their fathers. Not one of their enemies could withstand them; the LORD brought all their enemies under their power.	44 Yahvé leur procura la tranquillité sur toutes leurs frontières, tout comme il l'avait juré à leurs pèreset, de tous leurs ennemis, aucun ne réussit à tenir devant eux. Tous leurs ennemis, Yahvé les livra entre leursmains.
45 Not a single promise that the LORD made to the house of Israel was broken; every one was fulfilled.	45 De toutes les promesses que Yahvé avait faites à la maison d'Israël, aucune ne manqua son effet:tout se réalisa.
