On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb.1 Il primo giorno della settimana, Maria di Magdala si reca al sepolcro sul mattino, che era ancora buio, e vede la pietra tolta dal sepolcro.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, "They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they put him."2 Corre allora da Simon Pietro e dall’altro discepolo, quello che Gesù amava, e dice loro: «Hanno tolto il Signore dal sepolcro e non sappiamo dove l’han messo!»
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.3 Pietro uscì allora con l'altro discepolo: e si recarono al sepolcro.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first;4 Tutt'e due correvano insieme, ma l’altro discepolo, più svelto di Pietro, lo precedette e arrivò primo al sepolcro.
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.5 E, curvatosi, vide i pannilini per terra, ma non entrò.
When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,6 Giunse anche Simon Pietro, che lo seguiva, e vede i pannilini per terra,
and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.7 e il sudario, che era sul capo di Gesù, non per terra con i pannilini, ma avvolto a parte, in un altro posto.
Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed.8 Allora entrò anche l’altro discepolo, che era arrivato primo al sepolcro, e vide e credette.
For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead.9 Non avevano ancora, infatti, capito la Scrittura, secondo la quale Gesù doveva risuscitare dai morti.
Then the disciples returned home.10 Poi i discepoli se ne ritornarono a casa.
But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb11 Maria, però, stava fuori, presso il sepolcro, piangendo. Mentre piangeva, si curvò verso il sepoIcro
and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the body of Jesus had been.12 e vide due angeli vestiti di bianco, seduti l'uno dalla parte del capo e l’altro dalla parte dei piedi; là dove giaceva il corpo di Gesù.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him."13 Quelli le dicono: «Donna, perché piangi ?» Essa risponde: «Hanno porto via il mio Signore e non so dove l’abbiano messo!»
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus.14 Ciò detto si volta indietro e vede Gesù che stava là, ma essa non sapeva che era Gesù.
Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?" She thought it was the gardener and said to him, "Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him."15 Le dice Gesù: «Donna, perché piangi? chi cerchi?» Quella, credendo che fosse il giardiniere, gli dice: «Signore, se l’hai trafugato tu, dimmi dove l’hai messo ed io andrò a prenderlo».
Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni," which means Teacher.16 Gesù le dice: «Maria!» Voltandosi, essa rispose in ebraico: «Rabbuni!» cioè: «Maestro!»
Jesus said to her, "Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"17 Le dice Gesù: «Non tenermi così, perché non ancora sono asceso al Padre; va’ a trovare, invece, i miei fratelli e di’ loro: “Ascendo al Padre mio e Padre vostro, Dio mio e Dio vostro”».
Mary of Magdala went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and what he told her.18 Maria di Magdala va ad annunziare ai discepoli: «Ho veduto il Signore» e quello che le aveva detto.
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you."19 La sera di quel giorno, il primo della settimana, mentre, per paura dei Giudei, le porte del luogo dove si trovavano i discepoli erano chiuse, Gesù venne, stette in mezzo e disse: «Pace a Voi!»
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.20 E ciò detto mostrò ad essi le mani e il fianco. Nel vedere il Signore, i discepoli furono pieni di gioia.
(Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."21 Egli disse di nuovo: «Pace a Voi! Come il Padre ha mandato me anch'io mando voi».
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the holy Spirit.22 E ciò detto alitò su di essi e disse: «Ricevete lo Spirito Santo;
Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."23 a chi rimetterete i peccati saranno rimessi, a chi li riterrete saranno ritenuti».
Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.24 Tommaso, però, uno dei dodici, quello che era chiamato Didimo, non era con loro quando era venuto Gesù.
So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."25 Gli altri discepoli gli dicevano: «Abbiam veduto il Signore!» ma egli rispose: «Se non vedo nelle sue mani l’impronta dei chiodi e non metto il mio dito nel posto dei chiodi e non metto la mia mano nel suo fianco, non crederò».
Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."26 Otto giorni dopo, i discepoli erano di nuovo in casa e Tommaso si trovava con loro. Gesù venne a porte chiuse, stette in mezzo e disse: «Pace a voi!»
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."27 Poi dice a Tommaso: «Porta qui il tuo dito e guarda le mie mani; stendi la tua mano e mettila nel mio fianco, e non voler essere incredulo, ma credente!»
Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"28 Rispose Tommaso: «Signore mio e Iddio mio!»
Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."29 Gesù gli dice: «Perché mi hai veduto hai creduto? Beati quelli che credono senza aver visto!»
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of (his) disciples that are not written in this book.30 Gesù fece ancora, in presenza dei suoi discepoli, molti e altri miracoli che non sono scritti in questo libro,
But these are written that you may (come to) believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.31 ma queste cose sono state scritte affinché crediate che Gesù è il Messia, il Figlio di Dio, e affinché, credendo, abbiate la vita nel nome di lui.
