1 "Be careful to observe all the commandments I enjoin on you today, that you may live and increase, and may enter in and possess the land which the LORD promised on oath to your fathers.	1 Vous veillerez à mettre en pratique tous les commandements que je vous donne aujourd’hui. Ainsi vous vivrez, vous vous multiplierez, vous entrerez dans le pays que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de vous donner, et il sera vôtre.
2 Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God, has directed all your journeying in the desert, so as to test you by affliction and find out whether or not it was your intention to keep his commandments.	2 Tu te souviendras de tout le chemin par lequel Yahvé ton Dieu t’a fait marcher pendant ces quarante ans dans le désert. Il t’a humilié, il t’a mis à l’épreuve pour connaître le fond de ton cœur, pour voir si tu gardais ou non ses commandements.
3 He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna, a food unknown to you and your fathers, in order to show you that not by bread alone does man live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the LORD.	3 Il t’a humilié et t’a fait connaître la faim, puis il t’a donné à manger la manne: tu ne la connaissais pas, tes pères non plus. Il voulait t’apprendre que l’homme ne vit pas seulement de pain, mais que tout ce qui sort de la bouche de Dieu est vie pour l’homme.
4 The clothing did not fall from you in tatters, nor did your feet swell these forty years.	4 Durant ces quarante ans ton vêtement ne s’est pas usé sur toi, ton pied n’a pas enflé.
5 So you must realize that the LORD, your God, disciplines you even as a man disciplines his son.	5 Reconnais donc que Yahvé ton Dieu te corrige, comme un homme corrige son fils.
6 "Therefore, keep the commandments of the LORD, your God, by walking in his ways and fearing him.	6 Tu observeras les commandements de Yahvé ton Dieu, tu marcheras dans ses voies et tu le craindras.
7 For the LORD, your God, is bringing you into a good country, a land with streams of water, with springs and fountains welling up in the hills and valleys,	7 Yahvé ton Dieu va te faire entrer dans un bon pays, pays de torrents, de sources d’eau qui jaillissent dans les vallées et dans les montagnes;
8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, of olive trees and of honey,	8 terre du blé et de l’orge, de la vigne, du figuier et du grenadier, pays de l’olivier, de l’huile et du miel;
9 a land where you can eat bread without stint and where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones contain iron and in whose hills you can mine copper.	9 terre où le pain ne te sera pas mesuré et où tu ne manqueras de rien; terre dont les pierres sont du fer et d’où tu extrairas le cuivre dans la montagne…
10 But when you have eaten your fill, you must bless the LORD, your God, for the good country he has given you.	10 Oui, tu mangeras, tu seras rassasié, et il te faudra bénir Yahvé ton Dieu dans le bon pays qu’il te donnera.
11 Be careful not to forget the LORD, your God, by neglecting his commandments and decrees and statutes which I enjoin on you today:	11 Garde-toi alors d’oublier Yahvé ton Dieu et de délaisser ses commandements, ses ordonnances et ses règles que je t’ordonne aujourd’hui.
12 lest, when you have eaten your fill, and have built fine houses and lived in them,	12 Quand tu mangeras et seras comblé, quand tu auras construit de belles maisons et que tu les habiteras,
13 and have increased your herds and flocks, your silver and gold, and all your property,	13 quand ton gros ou petit bétail se multipliera, quand tu auras de l’argent et de l’or en quantité, et que tout ce qui est à toi ira en se développant,
14 you then become haughty of heart and unmindful of the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;	14 que tout cela ne te remplisse pas d’orgueil. N’oublie pas Yahvé ton Dieu qui t’a fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de l’esclavage,
15 who guided you through the vast and terrible desert with its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground; who brought forth water for you from the flinty rock	15 te faisant traverser ce désert grand et redoutable, avec ses serpents brûlants et ses scorpions, ce pays de la soif où l’on ne trouve pas d’eau. Mais pour toi il a fait jaillir l’eau de la roche dure,
16 and fed you in the desert with manna, a food unknown to your fathers, that he might afflict you and test you, but also make you prosperous in the end.	16 et dans ce désert il t’a nourri de la manne que tes pères ne connaissaient pas. Il t’a donc humilié et mis à l’épreuve pour mieux te combler par la suite.
17 Otherwise, you might say to yourselves, 'It is my own power and the strength of my own hand that has obtained for me this wealth.'	17 Ne te dis surtout pas: “J’ai acquis tous ces biens par moi-même, par mon travail.”
18 Remember then, it is the LORD, your God, who gives you the power to acquire wealth, by fulfilling, as he has now done, the covenant which he swore to your fathers.	18 Souviens-toi plutôt de Yahvé ton Dieu: c’est lui qui t’a donné la force pour acquérir cette richesse. Sois fidèle à l’Alliance qu’il a promise par serment à tes pères.
19 But if you forget the LORD, your God, and follow other gods, serving and worshiping them, I forewarn you this day that you will perish utterly.	19 Si tu en viens à oublier Yahvé ton Dieu, si tu suis d’autres dieux pour les servir et te prosterner devant eux, je te le dis aujourd’hui solennellement, tu périras.
20 Like the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so shall you too perish for not heeding the voice of the LORD, your God.	20 Pour n’avoir pas écouté la voix de Yahvé votre Dieu, vous périrez comme les peuplades que Yahvé a exterminées devant vous.
