Deuteronomy 13

1 "Every command that I enjoin on you, you shall be careful to observe, neither adding to it nor subtracting from it.	1 Todo esto que yo os mando, cuidaréis de ponerlo por obra, sin añadir ni quitar nada.
2 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer who promises you a sign or wonder,	2 Si surge en medio de ti un profeta o vidente en sueños, que te propone una señal o un prodigio,
3 urging you to follow other gods, whom you have not known, and to serve them: even though the sign or wonder he has foretold you comes to pass,	3 y llega a realizarse la señal o el prodigio que te ha anunciado, y te dice: «Vamos en pos de otros dioses (que tú no conoces) a servirles»,
4 pay no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the LORD, your God, is testing you to learn whether you really love him with all your heart and with all your soul.	4 no escucharás las palabras de ese profeta o de ese vidente en sueños. Es que Yahveh vuestro Dios os pone a prueba para saber si verdaderamente amáis a Yahveh vuestro Dios con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma.
5 The LORD, your God, shall you follow, and him shall you fear; his commandment shall you observe, and his voice shall you heed, serving him and holding fast to him alone.	5 A Yahveh vuestro Dios seguiréis y a él temeréis, guardaréis sus mandamientos y escucharéis su voz, a él serviréis y viviréis unidos a él.
6 But that prophet or that dreamer shall be put to death, because, in order to lead you astray from the way which the LORD, your God, has directed you to take, he has preached apostasy from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and ransomed you from that place of slavery. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst.	6 Ese profeta o vidente en sueños deberá morir por haber predicado la rebelión contra Yahveh tu Dios - que te sacó del país de Egipto y te rescató de la casa de servidumbre - para apartarte del camino que Yahveh tu Dios te ha mandado seguir. Así harás desaparecer el mal de en medio de ti.
7 "If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or your intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known,	7 Si tu hermano, hijo de tu padre o hijo de tu madre, tu hijo o tu hija, la esposa que reposa en tu seno o el amigo que es tu otro yo, trata de seducirte en secreto diciéndote: «Vamos a servir a otros dioses», desconocidos de ti y de tus padres,
8 gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other:	8 de entre los dioses de los pueblos próximos o lejanos que os rodean de un extremo a otro de la tierra,
9 do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him,	9 no accederás ni le escucharás, tu ojo no tendrá piedad de él, no le perdonarás ni le encubrirás,
10 but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you.	10 sino que le harás morir; tu mano caerá la primera sobre él para darle muerte, y después la mano de todo el pueblo.
11 You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.	11 Le apedrearás hasta que muera, porque trató de apartarte de Yahveh tu Dios, el que te sacó del país de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre.
12 And all Israel, hearing of it, shall fear and never again do such evil as this in your midst.	12 Y todo Israel, cuando lo sepa, tendrá miedo y dejará de cometer este mal en medio de ti.
13 "If, in any of the cities which the LORD, your God, gives you to dwell in, you hear it said	13 Si oyes decir que en una de las ciudades que Yahveh tu Dios te da para habitar en ella
14 that certain scoundrels have sprung up among you and have led astray the inhabitants of their city to serve other gods whom you have not known,	14 algunos hombres, malvados, salidos de tu propio seno, han seducido a sus conciudadanos diciendo: «Vamos a dar culto a otros dioses», desconocidos de vosotros,
15 you must inquire carefully into the matter and investigate it thoroughly. If you find that it is true and an established fact that this abomination has been committed in your midst,	15 consultarás, indagarás y preguntarás minuciosamente. Si es verdad, si se comprueba que en medio de ti se ha cometido tal abominación,
16 you shall put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, dooming the city and all life that is in it, even its cattle, to the sword.	16 deberás pasar a filo de espada a los habitantes de esa ciudad; la consagrarás al anatema con todo lo que haya dentro de ella;
17 Having heaped up all its spoils in the middle of its square, you shall burn the city with all its spoils as a whole burnt offering to the LORD, your God. Let it be a heap of ruins forever, never to be rebuilt.	17 amontonarás todos sus despojos en medio de la plaza pública y prenderás fuego a la ciudad con todos sus despojos, todo ello en honor de Yahveh tu Dios. Quedará para siempre convertida en un montón de ruinas, y no volverá a ser edificada.
18 You shall not retain anything that is doomed, that the blazing wrath of the LORD may die down and he may show you mercy and in his mercy for you may multiply you as he promised your fathers on oath;	18 De este anatema no se te quedará nada en la mano, para que Yahveh aplaque el ardor de su ira y sea misericordioso contigo, tenga piedad de ti y te multiplique como prometió bajo juramento a tus padres,
19 because you have heeded the voice of the LORD, your God, keeping all his commandments which I enjoin on you today, doing what is right in his sight.	19 a condición de que escuches la voz de Yahveh tu Dios guardando todos sus mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy y haciendo lo que es justo a los ojos de Yahveh tu Dios.
