Deuteronomy 11

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 "Love the LORD, your God, therefore, and always heed his charge: his statutes, decrees and commandments.	1 Tu aimeras Yahvé ton Dieu et tu garderas toujours ses observances, ses lois, coutumes etcommandements.
2 It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;	2 C'est vous qui avez fait l'expérience et non vos fils. Eux n'ont pas eu l'expérience et n'ont pasperçu les leçons de Yahvé votre Dieu, sa grandeur, sa main forte et son bras étendu,
3 the signs and deeds he wrought among the Egyptians, on Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and on all his land;	3 les signes et les oeuvres qu'il a accomplis au coeur de l'Egypte, contre Pharaon, roi d'Egypte,et tout son pays,
4 what he did to the Egyptian army and to their horses and chariots, engulfing them in the water of the Red Sea as they pursued you, and bringing ruin upon them even to this day;	4 ce qu'il a fait aux armées de l'Egypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, en ramenant sur eux leseaux de la mer des Roseaux lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient et comme il les a anéantis jusqu'aujourd'hui;
5 what he did for you in the desert until you arrived in this place;	5 ce qu'il a fait pour vous dans le désert jusqu'à ce que vous arriviez ici;
6 and what he did to the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, when the ground opened its mouth and swallowed them up out of the midst of Israel, with their families and tents and every living thing that belonged to them.	6 ce qu'il a fait à Datân et à Abiram, les fils d'Eliab le Rubénite, quand la terre ouvrit sa boucheet les engloutit au milieu de tout Israël, avec leurs familles, leurs tentes et tous les gens qui les suivaient.
7 With your own eyes you have seen all these great deeds that the LORD has done.	7 Ce sont vos yeux à vous qui ont vu cette grande oeuvre de Yahvé.
8 Keep all the commandments, then, which I enjoin on you today, that you may be strong enough to enter in and take possession of the land into which you are crossing,	8 Vous garderez tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, afin d'être fortspour conquérir le pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession,
9 and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.	9 afin de demeurer de longs jours sur la terre que Yahvé a promise par serment à vos pères et àleur descendance, terre qui ruisselle de lait et de miel.
10 "For the land which you are to enter and occupy is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you would sow your seed and then water it by hand, as in a vegetable garden.	10 Car le pays où tu entres pour en prendre possession n'est pas comme le pays d'Egypte d'oùvous êtes sortis, où après avoir semé, il fallait arroser avec le pied, comme on arrose un jardin potager.
11 No, the land into which you are crossing for conquest is a land of hills and valleys that drinks in rain from the heavens,	11 Mais le pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession est un pays de montagnes etde vallées arrosées de la pluie du ciel.
12 a land which the LORD, your God, looks after; his eyes are upon it continually from the beginning of the year to the end.	12 De ce pays Yahvé ton Dieu prend soin, sur lui les yeux de Yahvé ton Dieu restent toujoursfixés, depuis le début de l'année jusqu'à sa fin.
13 If, then, you truly heed my commandments which I enjoin on you today, loving and serving the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,	13 Assurément, si vous obéissez vraiment à mes commandements que je vous prescrisaujourd'hui, aimant Yahvé votre Dieu et le servant de tout votre coeur et de toute votre âme,
14 I will give the seasonal rain to your land, the early rain and the late rain, that you may have your grain, wine and oil to gather in;	14 je donnerai à votre pays la pluie en son temps, pluie d'automne et pluie de printemps, et tupourras récolter ton froment, ton vin nouveau et ton huile,
15 and I will bring forth grass in your fields for your animals. Thus you may eat your fill.	15 je donnerai à ton bétail de l'herbe dans la campagne, et tu mangeras et te rassasieras.
16 But be careful lest your heart be so lured away that you serve other gods and worship them.	16 Gardez-vous de laisser séduire votre coeur: vous vous fourvoieriez, vous serviriez d'autresdieux et vous prosterneriez devant eux;
17 For then the wrath of the LORD will flare up against you and he will close up the heavens, so that no rain will fall, and the soil will not yield its crops, and you will soon perish from the good land he is giving you.	17 et la colère de Yahvé s'enflammerait contre vous, il fermerait les cieux, il n'y aurait plus depluie, la terre ne donnerait plus son fruit et vous péririez bientôt en cet heureux pays que Yahvé vous donne.
18 "Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead.	18 Ces paroles que je vous dis, mettez-les dans votre coeur et dans votre âme, attachez-les àvotre main comme un signe, à votre front comme un bandeau.
19 Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.	19 Enseignez-les à vos fils, et répétez-les-leur, aussi bien assis dans ta maison que marchantsur la route, couché aussi bien que debout.
20 And write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,	20 Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes,
21 so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.	21 afin d'avoir de nombreux jours, vous et vos fils, sur la terre que Yahvé a juré à vos pères deleur donner, aussi longtemps que les cieux demeureront au-dessus de la terre.
22 "For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,	22 Car, si vraiment vous gardez et pratiquez tous ces commandements que je vous prescris,aimant Yahvé votre Dieu, marchant dans toutes ses voies et vous attachant à lui,
23 the LORD will drive all these nations out of your way, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.	23 Yahvé dépossédera à votre profit toutes ces nations, et vous déposséderez des nations plusgrandes et plus puissantes que vous.
24 Every place where you set foot shall be yours: from the desert and from Lebanon, from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea, shall be your territory.	24 Tout lieu que foulera la plante de vos pieds sera vôtre; depuis le désert, depuis le Liban,depuis le Fleuve, le fleuve Euphrate, jusqu'à la mer Occidentale s'étendra votre territoire.
25 None shall stand up against you; the LORD, your God, will spread the fear and dread of you through any land where you set foot, as he promised you.	25 Personne ne tiendra devant vous, Yahvé votre Dieu vous fera craindre et redouter sur toutel'étendue du pays que vous foulerez, ainsi qu'il vous l'a dit.
26 "I set before you here, this day, a blessing and a curse:	26 Vois! Je vous offre aujourd'hui bénédiction et malédiction.
27 a blessing for obeying the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today;	27 Bénédiction si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu que je vousprescris aujourd'hui,
28 a curse if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, but turn aside from the way I ordain for you today, to follow other gods, whom you have not known.	28 malédiction si vous désobéissez aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous vousécartez de la voie que je vous prescris aujourd'hui en suivant d'autres dieux que vous n'avez pas connus.
29 When the LORD, your God, brings you into the land which you are to enter and occupy, then you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, the curse on Mount Ebal.	29 Lorsque Yahvé ton Dieu t'aura conduit dans le pays où tu vas entrer pour en prendrepossession, tu placeras la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim et la malédiction sur le mont Ebal.
30 (Are they not beyond the Jordan, on the other side of the western road in the country of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite the Gilgal beside the terebinth of Moreh?)	30 (Ces monts, on le sait, se trouvent au-delà du Jourdain, sur la route du couchant, dans lepays des Cananéens qui habitent la Araba, vis-à-vis de Gilgal, auprès du Chêne de Moré.)
31 For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and occupy the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you. When, therefore, you take possession of it and settle there,	31 Car vous allez passer le Jourdain, pour venir prendre possession du pays que Yahvé votreDieu vous donne. Vous le posséderez, vous y demeurerez,
32 be careful to observe all the statutes and decrees that I set before you today.	32 et vous garderez et pratiquerez toutes les lois et coutumes que j'énonce aujourd'hui devantvous.
