Deuteronomy 11

1 "Love the LORD, your God, therefore, and always heed his charge: his statutes, decrees and commandments.	1 Tu aimeras donc Yahvé ton Dieu et tu observeras chaque jour ses ordonnances, ses préceptes, ses lois et ses commandements.
2 It is not your children, who have not known it from experience, but you yourselves who must now understand the discipline of the LORD, your God; his majesty, his strong hand and outstretched arm;	2 Vous comprenez aujourd’hui les leçons de Yahvé votre Dieu; ce sera différent pour vos fils qui n’ont pas connu ni vu sa puissance, sa main forte et ses coups redoutables,
3 the signs and deeds he wrought among the Egyptians, on Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and on all his land;	3 les signes et les merveilles qu’il a faites au milieu de l’Égypte contre le Pharaon, roi d’Égypte et tout son pays.
4 what he did to the Egyptian army and to their horses and chariots, engulfing them in the water of the Red Sea as they pursued you, and bringing ruin upon them even to this day;	4 Rappelez-vous ce qu’il a fait à l’armée d’Égypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, quand ils vous poursuivaient et qu’il a fait déborder sur eux les eaux de la mer des Joncs: Yahvé les a fait périr.
5 what he did for you in the desert until you arrived in this place;	5 Vous savez ce qu’il a fait pour vous dans le désert jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu,
6 and what he did to the Reubenites Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, when the ground opened its mouth and swallowed them up out of the midst of Israel, with their families and tents and every living thing that belonged to them.	6 comment il a traité Datan et Abiram, fils d’Éliab, fils de Ruben, lorsque la terre a ouvert sa bouche et les a engloutis sous le regard d’Israël avec leurs familles, leurs tentes et tous ceux qui s’étaient ralliés à leur cause:
7 With your own eyes you have seen all these great deeds that the LORD has done.	7 Vous avez vu de vos yeux toute cette œuvre puissante que Yahvé a accomplie.
8 Keep all the commandments, then, which I enjoin on you today, that you may be strong enough to enter in and take possession of the land into which you are crossing,	8 Vous observerez donc toutes les ordonnances que je vous commande aujourd’hui: ainsi vous serez forts et vous entrerez dans le pays qui deviendra vôtre.
9 and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.	9 Vos jours seront nombreux sur le sol que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner, et il en sera de même pour votre descendance dans ce pays où ruissellent le lait et le miel.
10 "For the land which you are to enter and occupy is not like the land of Egypt from which you have come, where you would sow your seed and then water it by hand, as in a vegetable garden.	10 Le pays où tu vas entrer pour en prendre possession, n’est pas comme l’Égypte d’où tu es sorti. Là-bas, quand tu semais la graine, tu devais irriguer en faisant des rigoles avec ton pied, comme dans un jardin à légumes.
11 No, the land into which you are crossing for conquest is a land of hills and valleys that drinks in rain from the heavens,	11 Mais le pays où tu vas passer pour le conquérir, est un pays de montagnes et de vallées qui reçoit ses eaux de la pluie du ciel.
12 a land which the LORD, your God, looks after; his eyes are upon it continually from the beginning of the year to the end.	12 C’est un pays dont Yahvé ton Dieu prend soin et sur lequel il a sans cesse les yeux levés, du commencement jusqu’à la fin de l’année.
13 If, then, you truly heed my commandments which I enjoin on you today, loving and serving the LORD, your God, with all your heart and all your soul,	13 Si vous écoutez bien les commandements que je vous donne aujourd’hui, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous le servez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
14 I will give the seasonal rain to your land, the early rain and the late rain, that you may have your grain, wine and oil to gather in;	14 j’enverrai sur votre pays la pluie en son temps: la pluie d’automne et la pluie de printemps. Vous récolterez votre blé, votre raisin et votre huile fraîche.
15 and I will bring forth grass in your fields for your animals. Thus you may eat your fill.	15 Je ferai pousser dans vos champs l’herbe pour vos troupeaux, vous mangerez et vous serez rassasiés.
16 But be careful lest your heart be so lured away that you serve other gods and worship them.	16 Mais attention, ne vous laissez pas séduire, ne vous laissez pas détourner, ne servez pas d’autres dieux et ne vous prosternez pas devant eux.
17 For then the wrath of the LORD will flare up against you and he will close up the heavens, so that no rain will fall, and the soil will not yield its crops, and you will soon perish from the good land he is giving you.	17 Sinon la colère de Yahvé s’enflammera contre vous et il fermera le ciel. Il n’y aura plus de pluie et la terre ne donnera plus sa récolte; et vous, vous dépérirez rapidement dans ce bon pays que Yahvé vous donne.
18 "Therefore, take these words of mine into your heart and soul. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead.	18 Vous graverez donc ces paroles que je vous dicte sur votre cœur et dans votre âme, vous les attacherez comme un signe sur votre main, et elles seront comme un bandeau entre vos yeux.
19 Teach them to your children, speaking of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest.	19 Vous les enseignerez à vos fils. Tu les leur répéteras lorsque tu seras assis dans ta maison, lorsque tu marcheras sur le chemin, quand tu te coucheras ou te lèveras.
20 And write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,	20 Tu les écriras sur les montants de ta maison et sur tes portes.
21 so that, as long as the heavens are above the earth, you and your children may live on in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers he would give them.	21 Ainsi tes jours et les jours de tes fils seront nombreux sur cette terre que Yahvé a juré à vos pères de leur donner. Alors vous durerez tout autant que les cieux au-dessus de la terre.
22 "For if you are careful to observe all these commandments I enjoin on you, loving the LORD, your God, and following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,	22 Si vous observez toutes ces ordonnances que je vous commande de mettre en pratique, si vous aimez Yahvé votre Dieu et marchez dans toutes ses voies, si vous vous attachez à lui,
23 the LORD will drive all these nations out of your way, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.	23 Yahvé chassera toutes ces peuplades devant vous; vous dépouillerez des peuplades plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.
24 Every place where you set foot shall be yours: from the desert and from Lebanon, from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea, shall be your territory.	24 Tout endroit que la plante de vos pieds aura foulé, sera à vous, depuis le désert et le Liban, depuis le grand Fleuve, l’Euphrate, jusqu’à la mer Occidentale: ce seront là vos frontières.
25 None shall stand up against you; the LORD, your God, will spread the fear and dread of you through any land where you set foot, as he promised you.	25 Personne ne vous résistera. Yahvé votre Dieu vous l’a dit, il sèmera devant vous la crainte et la terreur sur toute terre où vous mettrez le pied.
26 "I set before you here, this day, a blessing and a curse:	26 Tu vois que je mets aujourd’hui devant vous la bénédiction et la malédiction:
27 a blessing for obeying the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin on you today;	27 la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu que je vous donne aujourd’hui;
28 a curse if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, but turn aside from the way I ordain for you today, to follow other gods, whom you have not known.	28 la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de Yahvé votre Dieu, si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous ai montrée en ce jour pour vous mettre à la traîne d’autres dieux que vous n’avez pas connus.
29 When the LORD, your God, brings you into the land which you are to enter and occupy, then you shall pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, the curse on Mount Ebal.	29 Lorsque Yahvé votre Dieu vous aura fait entrer dans le pays que vous allez posséder, vous prononcerez la bénédiction sur le mont Garizim et la malédiction sur le mont Ébal.
30 (Are they not beyond the Jordan, on the other side of the western road in the country of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite the Gilgal beside the terebinth of Moreh?)	30 Ces montagnes sont de l’autre côté du Jourdain, derrière la route occidentale, au pays des Cananéens qui habitent dans la Araba en face de Guilgal, à côté du Térébinthe de Moré.
31 For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and occupy the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you. When, therefore, you take possession of it and settle there,	31 Vous allez donc traverser le Jourdain pour conquérir le pays que Yahvé votre Dieu vous donne, vous le posséderez et vous y habiterez. 32 Vous aurez soin alors d’observer toutes ces lois et toutes ces ordonnances que je vous expose aujourd’hui.
32 be careful to observe all the statutes and decrees that I set before you today.
